Portable Ladder; More Art Prints + Poll #2!

Posted by Eddy Boxerman (Creator)

Hello, you beautiful backers. Today marks 3 weeks into the campaign; and there are over 4000 of you now! Amazing. 9 days left!

Stretch Goals

We passed $125k last night, which means the game box will have a lovely, linen finish.

With this stretch goal we've now upgraded all of the game's components to the premium quality we were hoping for – from 310 gsm card stock, to custom meeples, to plastic insert. Our vision for Karmaka is coming true, thanks to all of you.

That said, one suggestion came up in the project's comments that we really liked: a 2-card Karmic Ladder. This would allow people to fit a fully playable version of Karmaka in their card box for easy transport to game nights, on trips, etc. Mind you, we have no intention of scrapping the full 6" x 8" board version of the Ladder; we just thought it'd be great to add these 2 cards as a bonus. Our only concern was that it might be too small to actually use, so I did a scale mockup in Photoshop. (Did you know photoshop has a 3D mode? Now you do. ;-)

The verdict? It'd work fine for a 2-player game. Things would get cramped in 4-player games, but still doable with some care and a little "extrapolation" of the levels near the top. We imagine sleeving the two cards and applying a little black electrical tape on the underside to hold it together nicely on the table while still allowing you to easily fold and place it in a card box.

All that to say, we're going for it! If the campaign hits $140k, we'll add in these 2 extra cards.

Art Prints

Two items in art-print land:

1) Marco has polished up Embody and Swindle. They are now available for purchase as prints (framed or not) on Society6.

Embody and Swindle, now available!

2) The last art poll proved to be really fun. Some great cards weren't included in the poll though, and a few favourites needed a "rematch". So we're doing another.

Once again, this is to pick two more cards that will be polished up by Marco and made into art prints available for purchase on Society6. (Note: Unlike last time, we aren't tying this to a stretch goal. We'll just do it.) So hit the poll and vote for your favs! We'll close it down and present the results in a few days...

Thanks again!

I'm getting two copies because the game mechanics are very intriguing and the art is amazing. The stretch goals, however, leave much to be desired. I would have liked to have seen something like card protectors added as I have seen with other kickstarter card games.

      Very nice update!

Not missing this chance to vote (lazy me missed the last one), put me in the Stolen Dreams camp.... Although i would have been curious to see how Panic scored.

Update #4 states that the prints will be made available for purchase separately from Society6 (just like the cover art and karmic ladder already are). And now the main campaign page has been updated with that same message (stating the two unlocked prints will be added to the portfolio for purchase on Society6).

So no, they will not be included for free. And they definitely aren't including two framed prints for free in a $25 game... LOL

Will the arts prints Embody and Swindle be included in the package as strech goals when the copies are delivered around November, or was the founding campaign only to make theme available on Society6? And if they are included, will they be framed? Thanks!

I'd love to get a throw blanket of one of these.

@kathryn: Fair enough. The board Ladder will still be included. :)

@Matthew, @Luke: I don't think we're going to offer a card/tuckbox, for a number of reasons – the main one being cost (keep in mind there are meeples and tokens too) vs. the number of people who would actually want this. Your local game store should have some good, inexpensive options for you if you don't already carry decks around in a box.

Perhaps the next goal could be a tuckbox for travel?

But it wouldn't come with a card box, right?

90% of the games I will play of Karmaka will likely be 2 player but with the 2 card Karmic Ladder chopping the Wolf Couple in two, NO THANKS! The 3-D image of the player pieces though makes me dislike them less. ; )
