Echo Chernik is an internationally award-winning artist and illustrator. This art book features her best and most famous pieces.
ECHO A LA MODE
This is the book that my fans have been asking for - one featuring only the best of my work. The base required amount will allow me to produce a 64-page soft cover version and a limited number of hard cover version of ECHO A LA MODE, an art book featuring art, notes, sketches, photos, and details about my process that everyone has been begging me for. Stretch goals will be added to improve the length and quality of the book. For example, ECHO NOUVEAU successfully reached stretch goals that allowed an increase to 100 pages, a hard-cover, a beautiful spot varnish, and gold foil embossed slip-cases for Kickstarter backers and collectors only.
THIRD STRETCH GOAL ANNOUNCED: $15,000
We've HIT $10,000! and covered all of my stretch goals. So what next? If we hit $15,000 then I will reprint my sold out first book, ECHO NOUVEAU (http:www.echo-nouveau.com). It will have to be a soft cover version so everyone with a first-run hard cover already can cherish theirs forever - but Laz will fix the few errors there are. Oh - and ALL Kickstarter backers of ECHO A LA MODE will automatically receive one whether they pledged additionally or not.
So please share this project, and help me bring back ECHO NOUVEAU.
FIRST STRETCH GOAL REACHED!: $9,000
I am including a special gift in every book for Backers now that we reached $9,000. There will be a custom book plate in every book for Kickstarter backers as an extra-special 'thank you'.
SECOND STRETCH GOAL REACHED: $10,000
Now that we reached $10,000, these two things will happen:
1. I will take extra time and care to include a tutorial on my process, including drawings and screen shots, into ECHO A LA MODE. This will increase the page count and over all cost of printing, but it will be worth it.
2. I will now include all of my Shadowrun portraits, for example:
Among all the other wonderful art that will be included is my entire Goddesses of Cuisine series:
I have successfully run two previous Kickstarter campaigns (ECHO NOUVEAU, and the ICE CREAM CTHULHU TRIPTYCH) (thank you contributors!!!), and I have proven how to manage effective campaigns and satisfy all of my contributors. As the pledges increase, more and more images of the book will be posted as it evolves in the design phase.
This book will include my entire collection of food goddesses, as well as the desired set of Cthulhu pieces. The format of the book is sixteen inches high - so the size of the artwork will be impressive and beautiful. We have set up the rewards to include gift certificates sent in time for the holiday season!! :D Early pledges will receive a holiday card from me - to include in the gift! :>
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I've done this before successfully - my studio partner is a professional who has published many projects including my previous book ECHO NOUVEAU through Kickstarter. My printer will be ready to receive the book in January after the campaign. The books will return from the printer in March-April. That gives me 1-2 months to get them to the backers - covering errors in printing, shipping, etc.
Echo is an award-winning fine-artist, illustrator, and instructor, specializing in her vision of Art Nouveau. She is a highly sought-after artist for advertising, packaging, posters, and books. Her works have appeared at galleries around the world and at stores including Neiman Marcus and your local grocer. Echo has been interviewed by CBS news and is frequently featured in international art magazines. She recently published a book about her career focusing on educating the public and especially young art students about her profession.
In Echo's series - "Women Inspired By Butterflies", Echo has created a universe for these women who are surely beautiful, but are also individual. Five-Bar Swordtail is a woman who is fine, shapely, and move with absolute grace. While she is, in a way, camouflaged like her namesake, one cannot help but be overcome by her presence. She is looking aside and thoughtfully. She knows you are present, but cannot be turned from whatever memory is captivating her. Is it sadness? Is it awe? It is complex - like a woman really is. Jakouageha, on the other hand, is striking in her gaze. The butterfly is black with red flecks, announcing its presence with pride. She is staring, almost challenging. She may be covering herself, but it is not out of shyness or fear for she knows she is beautiful. She knows you are looking at her and since you are going to look, you might as well introduce yourself. More than a few have slunk away from her gaze, somehow fearing their own appreciation. She desires admiration - she just also desires recognition.
In Echo's ultimate series - "Cthulhu Desserts". Echo revels in the truly fantastic. Here, woman are being tortured with temptation while they desperately try to maintain the standards of beauty they desire. Their corsets are so gorgeous that the viewer instantly admires them. The desserts, pie, cupcakes, and ice cream treats, that tempt them are deliciously evil in the rendering. The tentacled lips of great Cthulhu, the horrific demon god of H.P. Lovecraft's universe, are an erotic metaphor for their pained desire. They are each, at once, a mesmerizing erotic experience and a tongue-in-cheek message. It's not scolding or scowling at the trapping of beauty, it is merely recognizing the dilemma and playing upon it in a way that won't leave one's memory for decades.
Many of Echo's other works are represented, and while themes, style, and imagery, may differ - the message is the same. Women are beautiful and unique. They should not shy from it, nor should they be feared or scorned for it. Men depict beautiful women as ideal. Echo depicts beautiful women as their own ideal - strong in body and in character.
