EDIT: July 5, 2016 A big “Thank You” to our early funders!
We have reached the minimum support to move to re-publication, but the work to raise money and awareness for this project has just begun. We still need your help! We passionately believe it is important for everyone to get an understanding of the real Donald Trump—which is what this book captures, with all his many many warts. Reading and talking about Lost Tycoon is as great way to get the message out there. It is a complete and entertaining portrait of this very problematic and powerful person. Please continue to fund, share, and help us spread the word!

This is the book that Donald J. Trump doesn’t want you to read!
Why? Because facts get in the way of the @realDonaldTrump narrative.
Trump has become the Republican Party's presumptive nominee for President of the United States, an astonishing achievement unique in the nation's political history. Trump is the first GOP standard bearer since Dwight Eisenhower to never have held elective office. But Eisenhower was a former five-star general who, as Supreme Allied Commander during World War II, successfully managed many competing political factions to bring about an enormously important, logistically complex military victory. The only military experience Trump can claim is military school as a teenager. The Donald’s track record of multiple business bankruptcies suggests his only real skill is self-promotion.
Donald Trump’s polarizing, populist campaign trail persona may charm you, disarm you, or alarm you. But however you may feel about him, there is no escaping the fact that we are now facing the possibility that this man may become the leader of the free world.
Lost Tycoon is your Trump card.
Lost Tycoon presents an unvarnished, in-depth, well-researched portrayal of the man who vows to "Make America Great Again." Although this book was first published by W.W. Norton in 1993, The Donald's personal character, political philosophy, business ethics, and treatment of women as portrayed in Lost Tycoon are the same in form and substance as they are today.
Trump is a man of many lives, and many wives. He is arguably the greatest self-promoter in the annals of American business. After inheriting a fortune, he made and lost billions in real estate and casino gambling, rising phoenix-like from his own ashes. He is a reality television show star, a father, a grandfather, and an alleged rapist. In Hollywood terms, he has literally been the producer and director of his own bio-pic (not this one), a real life "Citizen Kane" whose father hammered the same lines into his head when was a little boy. "You are a killer... you are a king... you are a killer... you are a king."
Lost Tycoon documents and details the formative moments that shaped the psyche of the man now poised to assume the presidency:
- The devastating helicopter crash that killed Trump's most valued executives, and his opportunistic response to the tragedy
- Trump's internal conflict between the man who deserves everything, and his notable physical and emotional insecurities
- Trump's tumultuous personal affairs; his fabricated public persona as a ladies' man, Marla Maples, and all the details of the now infamous "emotional rape" of Ivana
- A page-turning shell game of financial and social wheeling and dealing that will make your head spin
Mr. Hurt has created a cinema verite-style narrative to allow the words and actions of the principals speak for themselves. To borrow a metaphor from Fred Trump Sr., it is indisputable that Donald's exploits in business, entertainment, and politics prove he is a "killer." It is now up to America's voters to decide whether he should be "king." Reading this important biography about the real Donald Trump will only help us to make an informed choice.
Harry Hurt III is an award-winning print journalist, a video journalist, and the author of six nonfiction books. From May 2005 to February 2009, he wrote 98 consecutive “Executive Pursuits” columns and made 14 related web videos for the Saturday business section of the New York Times.
Harry spent nearly three years researching and writing Lost Tycoon. He interviewed Donald Trump and observed him in action in New York City and Atlantic City. He reviewed thousands of pages of court documents, and interviewed well over 100 people, including some of the most trusted confidants in the infamous Donald-Ivana-Marla love triangle that made front page tabloid headlines.
Reviews of Lost Tycoon
All of these juicy details--and, God help us, so much more!--are packed into "Lost Tycoon," a gossipy biography of Donald J. Trump by Harry Hurt III that is based, the publisher tells us, on "firsthand contact with all of the principals." As Hurt spins out his breathless tales of self-promotion and sexual betrayal and sheer self-aggrandizement, we come to realize that Trump was never quite what he advertised--he was not especially adept at deal-making or lovemaking, he was not glamorous or urbane, and he was not even all that rich.
Lost Tycoon in the news
Risks and challenges
As an experienced publisher, we expect our production to be quick and trouble-free, but the risk of reprinting this particular book is real. Trump is famous for using legal action or (or the threat thereof) to attack, antagonize or intimidate those who would question his own narrative. The original publisher of Lost Tycoon was too worried about such a risk to republish it.
Take a stand again such bullying by supporting this project and help get this book back in print. Lost Tycoon is a window into Trump's psyche, his lack of integrity, his skills as an executive, and his personal history. Even if you already have a sense of Trump's background, the vivid details make it that much more real, especially when engaged in discussion with others. This publication is more important now than when it was originally published. It houses information far too important to overlook at this crossroads in American history.
Please support this project and help get this book in circulation! The wider it is distributed the better. Buy one for each of your friends. Buy 100 and hand them out to strangers on the street, it is that important.
It also makes for entertaining (and very quotable) reading!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
