Rebranding Guild Masters

Choosing a New Name

Guild Masters has been evolving steadily since I began designing it last year, and I jumped around between a few names early in design (Shopkeepers, Artisans, etc.) before I settled on calling it Guild Masters for the campaign last fall.

While I like that name, it never felt like the perfect fit, and a relaunch is the perfect time to reconsider the name of the game to make it even better. The story and narrative of Guild Masters has changed a lot since last October, and I want to find a name that fits well with the new theme of the game.

I would love to hear your thoughts on possible names! Check out this survey and help me choose what the final name will be. I have a few favorites in this list, but I want to hear from all of you before I make a final decision.

Playtesting Update

While reworking the name, I've also been doing a ton more playtesting with my gaming group in LA, and have made some further refinements to the game. Right now we're testing some additional chambers to hold your specialists, as well as a new statue room you can build to earn prestige for your guild.

My big update to the quest cards has gone over really well, with a better sense of balance between the different items required to complete quests. The best part is that you won't see much duplication of item costs, so there's a lot more variety amongst the quests. I've also increased quest cards from 36 to 48, so that adds even more replayability to the game.

Check out some shots from last night's playtest!

None of the proposed options where entincing in any way. Some of them would rise an eyebrow if used in a project ("Guildcraft"? seriously??)

I suggest we stick with Guild masters and add a subtitle like Greycastle A relaunch is a tricky operation and creating confusion is not a good thing.

To be clear. who backed the first time will be informed, so we are a bit safer from this side, but there are people that did not back and then came back and saw the cancelled project.

They might want to join, but it will be useless if they cannot recognize the game from the name they remembered.

      Just my opinion of course

Nothing with "Guilded", please. It is not a real word. "Gilded" is a real word but means something totally different.

Personally, I would like Greycastle: City of Guilds, myself.

What about "Worthy of the Throne" which is the goal of the game I presume.

Thanks for your input, Chris! Guilds of Greycastle is one of my favorite choices too.

While I like the options for names, I think I still like Guild Masters the best out of all of the options. I think that it still needs to be incorporated into the name in some way. I did like the name Guilds of Greycastle, but I think a better name would be Guild Masters of Greycastle. Just my 2 pennies.
