Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is a 45min, semi-cooperative game (2-5 players). Race to save your aliens before the planet explodes! Read more
This project was successfully funded on August 28, 2014.
About this project
It’s been a fun existence, but someone tripped over a coolant cord in the core and the planet you’ve called home for eons is going to explode. Sadly, the Great Alien Council never considered this possibility. Looks like you are going to have to use your wits and every means at your disposal to escape. “Get me off this planet!” can be heard echoing in the core.
Lift Off! Get me off this Planet has a casual space theme and never takes itself too seriously. My goal was to make an easy to learn, fast-paced game, where everyone feels engaged and "in it" until someone has won or the planet explodes!
The objective of Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is to be the first player to get their Aliens off the planet using resource cards, action cards‚ and phases of the moon to escape. If the planet explodes before everyone escapes‚ the player with the most saved Aliens wins.
What’s special about Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is that Lift Off Point board pieces (such as the Rocket Ship, Satellite, U.F.O etc) are all different and often require multiple players to work together to take off. For example, the Rocket Ship takes a lot of resources (6 Fuel and 6 Screws) and can carry 6 aliens from various players. This creates a great dynamic of semi-co-operative play that can turn real competitive, real fast; initially all players work together to get the first half of their aliens off the planet. Once the population starts thinning, people become more competitive and tricky, using action cards to manipulate the moon, terraform the board, create tornadoes, and more.
Since the game board is modular, each Lift Off Point board piece creates a different configuration and scenario in the game. Every session is a new experience with new play dynamics!
Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is a fresh, lightweight take on unit placement and resource management. The cooperative-to-competitive dynamic and imminent doom creates strong tension and drama at the end of the game.
Please see Rule Book (downloadable below) for more details, but here are some details on Play actions on your turn
PLAY: A player starts their turn by drawing two cards and can do any of the following actions in any order:
> Play Action Cards: The player can play any number of action cards in any order (whether they have a plan or not).
> Pay Placement / Lift Off Costs: If a Lift Off Point is blissfully not full, the player may pay the Lift Off Placement cost in order to place their Alien on the black-and-yellow striped launch platform getting one step closer to safety! The player may also pay a Lift Off action cost at any time.

"Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is a sharp-looking game, and has a lot of fun elements to it. Some of the mechanics seem pretty familiar, like moving around, playing action cards, and spending resources. But the phases of the moon is a new one—it can be a little tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's very cool.
While Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is not as deeply strategic as some games, there are still some really fascinating dynamics to it, and I think it will be a good one for both kids and adults. The artwork really drew in my kids, and the gameplay was meaty enough for me to enjoy."

Here is some additional information on Murder of Crows, my debut game. It is included as part of the $49 pledge level.
Uncover a murder most fowl by revealing six story elements that together describe the deadly deed and spell the word MURDER. But take care that your opponents can't do the same -- take their letters, counter their actions, or call on a waiting Crow to influence the murder before they do!
Murder of Crows is a fast-paced card game for 2 to 5 players that's quick. A game typically lasts 15 to 20 minutes, and is designed for ages 13 and up. Made with Thomas Denmark and published by Atlas Games
"A charming, lovely, dark little game." - Rock, Paper, Shotgun
"Four and a half stars out of five. Easily one of my favorite games I’ve purchased this year." - The Geeky Gimp
"...the game play is solid, the theme darkly funny, and the player interaction high." - Edd Allard

Risks and challenges
Lift Off! Get me off this Planet is extremely well tested (over the last 2 years) and balanced. The art and graphic design is complete pending a few cleanup tasks in preparation for print and depending on how successful the Kickstarter is a few extra components. We have been working closely with Panda GM - who is known for their high quality manufacturing. Also, in order to deliver on time, I've made sure to buffer the schedule sufficiently to manage hiccups, if any occur.
There are inherent risks whenever undertaking a project as complex and large as producing and distributing a board game, but I have been making complex projects with countless moving parts and large budgets most of my career (video games). Admittedly, this is my first board game and Kickstarter. That's why I've gone out of my way to surround myself with experienced board game developers, distributers, and people who have run and launched successful Kickstarters. This team of friends has been exceedingly helpful and I'm sure will help as we hit any upcoming bumps in the road.
Most importantly, if something does go wrong, I will keep everyone in the loop as the project moves forward and comes to market. This game will exist because you guys will have made it happen. You are a part of the Lift Off! story.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
