Dammit, I was hoping it was going to make it.

The game is good, but I think we can look at the fact there were only three updates during the whole campaign as an indication that generating a buzz wasn't as high up the agenda as it needed to be. If there isn't activity around the KS page itself, with insights perhaps into the creators folks are backing as much as the game, it's a hard sell from there.

Well, I thought for certain that this one would make it...it kinda kills me that those miniature games that are just clones of each other keep getting super funding and games like this one fail! My condolences go out to all those that worked on this project, I know what it's like to have a project not do as good as you'd hoped...it's a real punch in the gut and leaves you asking why people don't like your game. I really think it was timing, there's a lot of expensive titles up right now. The only thing that I think might have hurt this title was that it's set in today's time...if it had been a castle building game it might have had more backing just because the fantasy theme is a strong one on Kickstarter. I hope that Skyways will find a publisher and all of your work will not have been wasted.

Thank you, everyone who supported the project, including the team at Eagle-Gryphon Games. It was a pleasure working with you over the past year, and I wish you all the best on your future projects.

This really shouldn't have failed, backing it should have been a no brainer as it looks like a great game - hope you find the magic soon!

      Alright, Eagle Games ...

      • Why do you think funding failed?
      • What could you have done better?
      • Is there a plan for a relaunch? When?
      • What tricks do you have up your sleeves to get this game published?

      Thanks

    8. Bart R on May 22

Disappointing, but I'm sure you'll find a way to get this in the hands of boardgamers one way or the other!

I don't get why this is so difficult to get funded. It should be a shoo-in.

Thanks, everyone for your support. I am confident that Skyways will be published someday, if not in the near future. No matter who ends up publishing the game, the best way to keep up with new developments is to subscribe to the Skyways page on Boardgamegeek.com: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/207379/skyways

I'm just curious why there hasn't been an update in two weeks, now. That's not typical of your usually high-energy campaigns. Fingers still crossed this'll get funded.

It's good to see the exposure now. Rahdo's play through really helps. Keep the backers coming!

@Everyone: Yes we are indeed getting close *fingers crossed*, we have done everything we can on social media. For example, late last week our Marketing Director made a guest post on Jamey Stegmaier's blog talking about Skyways. We got a boost from that for sure, as well as through our normal channels (like the 48 hour alert). It will be a shame if we don't fund... This is a project we have put our blood, sweat, and tears into.

I for one am going to keep trying to convince folk on my personal SM accounts to join the campaign, and for those of you who plan to do the same or have already, then I applaud you :)

Let's see what we can do in the final hours.

@Eagle games. What were the tricks you had up your sleeve? A few of us have been wondering as it's very quiet. No official update has gone out since the 8th May!

I think you've let the campaign down somewhat with a lack of visibility, advertising and social media awareness. If it hadn't been for Rahdo, I'd never have known about this game!

    23. Bradley Isaacs on May 21

@Bradley: We still have a few more tricks up our sleeve, and remember that most funding happens in the first 48 hours and the last 48.

Hi Chris! No, this game is not a retheme of Heartland. It is a very different game that shares only the tile-laying mechanism of that game (place a double tile, score points according to matching areas). Skyways is a more congested, vertical game, and the secondary strategy in this game (instead of the barns and livestock) is to get your building cupulas onto buildings of different heights and colors by the end of the game to score bonus points. You can read about the design process for this game here: http://berlingamedesign.blogspot.de/2016/09/with-tile-laying-games-skys-limit_6.html

Is this game a retheme of heartland? If so, how close are the rules to the original heartland? Any significant changes?

If this game is heartland, may I suggest that this fact be made a little more clear to potential backers? I know a lot of people who are looking for heartland but may not realize that this is that game. If this is a retheme of heartland there is no reason why it shouldn't fund.

I just came here to say I am very excited about the possibility that Skyways will be a product, as I have played the game and it might be one of my favorite abstracts to date. Rahdo hit the nail on the head with his analysis of the gameplay's subtle real estate war. It is the distilled core version of every other area control game on the market with awesomely designed and tactile components. Many thanks to those of you have been with us through both campaigns, and we are doing what we can on the marketing side to make this happen. I think this game should be produced, and if you are reading this I am asking you to share this campaign with your friends on social media, and hopefully, we can get this to be a funded campaign.

Came here from bgg ads. Looks amazing. I'm surprised this isn't higher since it's just a deluxe version and comparatively affordable. Love the feel and 3d aspect of these chunky pieces. The interlocking is what sold me to play with the kids

    43. Eagle Games 25-time creator on May 11

@Troy: As Jeff said, we felt it unnecessary to have player screens for Skyways. A double-block can fit easily in the palm of your hand (approx. 60mm in length), and everyone has access to an identical set of single-blocks that don't need to be hidden.

@Jeff: Still have your prototype sitting on my desk, it's crazy how much the game has evolved over the course of development :)

    44. Jeff Collaborator on May 11

Thanks! It's a fun process and very cooperative. I have a great group of designers and playtesters that help out, and I enjoy very much the collaborative atmosphere.

    45. Bart R on May 11

Nice reading material, it's always interesting to see how the process of creating a game works.

    46. Jeff Collaborator on May 11

If you are interested in reading about the development of this game and seeing the early prototypes, I wrote about it on my blog: http://berlingamedesign.blogspot.de/2016/09/with-tile-laying-games-skys-limit_6.html

    47. Jeff Collaborator on May 11

I appreciate the publisher's attempts at keeping component costs down so that they can offer this game at a competitive price point. It's a family strategy game, suitable as a gateway game for casual gaming friends, and also for gamers who want something a little faster and lighter to play in between 90+ minute "meatier" games. I have had successful playtests with both groups. But for this target group, you can't really charge more than $40 and be competitive with the mass-market fair out there. I think they have done a good job with the plastic components, as it also makes the gameplay better to have interlocking pieces that cannot move if the board is bumped during play. Much better than any of my foam-core prototypes! I hope this gets funded, just so I can play the game with quality components!

    48. Jeff Collaborator on May 11

Oops, it seems to have posted my comment multiple times. Any way to get rid of the extras?

    49. Jeff Collaborator on May 11

@ Troy: if that is something you want, it would not be difficult to make some yourself. I do that all the time for my prototypes. I make 2 screens out of 1 sheet of thick paper. I cut it into two pieces (the long way), then fold the ends inward on each side so that it will sit up. Sometimes I trim the sides at a slight angle so that it will lean slightly and not tip over the other way. Works great!
