Frequently Asked Questions
We are pleased to announce that Arclight of Japan has confirmed that they will publish an all-Japanese-language edition of Struggle of Empires Deluxe! In addition, we have confirmation that the rules and player aids will definitely be published in German, Spanish, and Italian. There are a number of other print/production partners who are considering various language publications of the rules and player aids for SOEDE at the time of the launch of this Kickstarter.
But we have now (as of Aug 22) received confirmation that Arclight will publish the full Japanese version of this game; and that Giochix has confirmed that they will publish Italian rules and player aids. Skellig Games will do the German rules and Maldito Games will do the Spanish rules.
Other countries/languages that are considering publication are France/French; Poland/Polish; Czech Republic; China/Chinese; Korea/Korean. In all cases, please make your pledge with us for this Kickstarter and when details for other countries are worked out we will let you know them. You will tell us which language rules you want during the PledgeManager which will follow the Kickstarter by 2-3 weeks. You will also find out how much shipping is at that time. Please do not ask us now about shipping as we do not know yet even what the weight of the game will be. But we will be sure to make it as inexpensive to you as we can.Last updated:

Will there be a German language version of the rules and player aids for this game? How about other languages?
We now can definitively say that we will have German rules and player aids for this game. They will be distributed and available in Germany from Skellig Games. More information will be forthcoming about this after the Kickstarter and PledgeManager are completed (end of October/early November) but we can assure you that German rules and player aids will be available by the time the game itself is available. As we work out the details with other language partners we will be sure to let you know.Last updated:
Yes -- there definitely will be. We always wait until the Kickstarter ends to design our inserts because until the Kickstarter ends we are not entirely sure what all the components of the game will be! But rest assured that once we know, we will design a terrific insert to house and conveniently display all of those great components.Last updated:
What's going to be in the KS Edition of this game? How will it differ from the non-KS edition that will eventually be released?
The KS Edition of this game will include all the achieved Stretch Goals (SGs). Any SGs that we have planned that may not be achieved will be made available in one or two Upgrade Kits that will be made available during the PledgeManager period (which starts about 3 weeks after the KS ends and runs for another month or so). The non-KS Edition will not include the SGs, but again, the Upgrade Kits will include those. We encourage you to back this Kickstarter so that you can get the basic game and all of the achieved SGs for the best price possible!Last updated:
Do you have an average playing time comparison between the original version and this Deluxe version?
We think that this version will shorten the playing time, but this will depend on the number of players to some degree and also their level of experience with the game. The first game will go longer as there is a lot to take in. It is not overwhelming, just lots of options.
After that games should run about 30 minutes per player. That means a 7-player game would run about 3 1/2 hours.
By the way, many of our Deluxe Game improvements are designed to help move the game along - the game track, trade tiles and Local Alliances on the board, and sorting the Tiles into more manageable groups as well as helpful iconography.Last updated:
Yes -- definitely! Maldito Games will be our exclusive Spanish-language partner for this game and will translate the rules and player aids and make them available to all Spanish-language Backers in whatever countries. Do become a Backer to this US-based Kickstarter and you will be able to specify that you want the Spanish rules during the PledgeManager which follows the KS by 2-3 weeks.Last updated:
