WERE YOU TOO LATE TO BACK THIS KICKSTARTER PROJECT?
Don't worry about it--just head over to eaglegames.net and place a pre-order for it before it arrives. You can still get a very nice price for Continental Divide!
The Civil War is over! America strives to tame the American Continent and the key will be to connect sea to shining sea with iron horses and steel rails-- thus opening the vast untamed lands to millions of adventuresome citizens weary of war. This strategic railroad game extends from the muddy Mississippi to the coast of California.
Each player founds railroads, determines share distributions and capitalization, invests in various companies they and others have founded, expands the companies across the country, and competes for the most victory points (not net worth) at the end of the game. Railroads are built across the river vallies, plains, deserts and ultimately, over the great Continental Divide!
Released as part of the Winsome Games' Essen Collection 2013, Continental Divide is not a game of luck or chance, but a competitive struggle of wits, savvy and guile. Many decisions await the creators of these railroads, including what routes to build, how to capitalize, and what goals to set -- both short and long term. This modern classic has all the challenges faced by the empire building capitalists that created a modern superpower.
In the middle of the 19th century America felt the pull of the Pacific. Those that dreamed of wealth and adventure traveled west, across the roughest terrain and harshest environs. For the Eastern railroad companies this meant new opportunities, and for those that dared to cross the treacherous Continental Divide fame and fortune awaited. It’s up to you, the railroads’ major stockholders, to control the actions of not just one, but of up to 8 railroads attempting to connect the Mississippi River to the bustling port cities of the Pacific Coast.

Get LOTS of Bang for your Buck! Continental Divide is a terrific game that was released originally as part of the Winsome Games' Essen Collection in 2013. This was a small prior production run of approximately 150 units. The game has a well-deserved BGG rating of 7.14 and very good reviews from the small group of train game lovers who have had the good fortune of obtaining the game.
Our Kickstarter project gives you a 33% discount from the likely $60 MSRP of Continental Divide. We are also making available the last of our stock in two other terrific train games at tremendously discounted prices. We have a very limited number of these two games available -- which is why there are limits on each of the KS Pledge Levels where these appear.
There are really no game play improvements for us to offer you as Stretch Goals for this project. We are going to let the low prices on all of our Pledge Levels and our Add-Ons speak for themselves as incentives for you to support us on this Kickstarter.
Add-Ons have been the source of a lot of issues in the past. It is very expensive for us to coordinate and pay for shipping and stocking goods in four or more locations around the world. As a result, we are only offering these add-ons AFTER the KS program ends (via our survey that you will receive within two weeks after this KS ends) AND we are only offering them to US and Canadian Backers for certain.
For backers in the EU, Australia, and Asia and South America, we will provide these Add-Ons first come, first served, only if there is sufficient stock on hand in these locations to fill your orders. There will be an additional cost for shipping (matching our costs for shipping, no profit-taking on shipping), and you will be advised of those extra shipping costs after you have filled out and returned the survey and worksheet. If the shipping costs prove unacceptable to you, you will not be charged anything additional for Add-ons. If the shipping charges are acceptable, you will pay for the Add-ons and use PayPal or make a wire payment.
For brick and mortar retailers only, your price is 50% of the MSRP shown for Continental Divide. In general, you are responsible for shipping expenses, but this can change depending upon your location and the size of your order. We want to acknowledge and thank those retailers and distributors who have agreed in the past to help us distribute games in their country to Kickstarter Backers:
- Boosterbox, The Netherlands
- Dominik Krister, Germany
- Giochix, Italy
- The Games Capital, Australia
- Board Game Bliss, Canada
- Board Game Guru, United Kingdom
- Chrononauts Games, Japan

Risks and challenges
Eagle-Gryphon Games stands by our products. If there are issues with your game, please contact our customer service department within 60 days of receiving your copy of the game you have pledged for. We will take every step necessary to get you exactly what you pledged for. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org. We do not accept responsibility for messages that end up in SPAM, that’s out of our control.
Shipping issues are relatively uncommon, but they do sometimes occur, especially when shipping to destinations outside of the US. We will obtain tracking information when it is possible, but sometimes it is not. We cannot guarantee that there will not be shipping problems, as we cannot guarantee the service and reliability of the various postal/delivery services involved around the world. You will have to assume that risk along with us.
We are a games publisher and not a shipping/delivery/governmental postal carrier. We do not ship damaged games out to you. But occasionally they are damaged in shipping by the carrier. Please keep in mind that we did not cause that damage, nor are we responsible for it. Your first recourse is to recover your losses (if any) from the carrier, not us. However, if you are reasonable about it, we will work with you to document and recover these losses as well.
Eagle-Gryphon Games has completed over 50 Kickstarter projects to date. Virtually all of those projects have either completed delivery or they are in the midst of it right now! Five projects, successfully completed on Kickstarter within the past few months, include these 5 -- Defenders of the Realm Dragon Expansion; Morocco, the Ferti Sugoi series; Taluva Deluxe; and Attack Deluxe. All of those games are in various stages of either production or shipping to Backers.
We keep Backers notified by Updates about the status of their projects. We deliver on our promises reliably and usually on time (the very few delays we have ever had were related to production schedule issues and/or transport issues such as weather and dock strikes, which we have only, at best, partial or NO control over).
To put it simply, you will get everything you are promised when you pledge to one of our Kickstarter Projects, and it will be delivered to you in as timely a manner as possible.
Shipping can be problematic and expensive. We ask that you are patient and tolerant and share the burden with us of making sure that shipping is as positive an experience as it can be. But be aware of what is involved please.
We will ship US orders from our Eagle-Gryphon Games warehouse in Kentucky; Canadian orders from Board Games Bliss in Ontario; Australian orders from The Games Capital in Canberra; and Asian orders from our warehouse in Shenzhen, China (mainland). Many EU orders will ship from our warehouse in Enschede, The Netherlands and some might be shipped directly from your home country, if other print partners join us in co-productions! UK Backers will get their games from BoardGameGuru in London. We do all this in an effort to keep expenses low but this much shipping also introduces more chances for damage and delays. We cannot avoid this risk, and save money for you. So we ask that you join us in assuming some of the risk when it is not ours either, and that you are as tolerant and patient as need be about the estimates we make many months before as to "Estimated Delivery" dates in the Rewards section. Many things about this estimate are simply NOT within our control, and you must agree to be tolerant and accepting of those delays. We will do our best to keep things on time, but we simply cannot assure you that we will meet these “made-well-in-advance” estimates.
It has been our experience that many people (including sophisticated international Kickstarter Backers) frequently confuse "shipping" expense and "postage" expense. What we try to cover with “shipping fees” is shipping expenses, not just postage. Postage is the actual charge your country's postal service (or UPS, FedEx, etc) charges us to deliver a package within that country.
Shipping is far more comprehensive and includes: getting the container shipped to the US, or the EU, or Australia; the Customs and VAT (or equivalent) and other import fees and taxes; the drayage from the port to the warehouse; the warehouse fees to unload and sort out and prepare packages; the materials and labor involved in the last item; fees to the warehouse for their service to us, and only after all of that, the postage! We need to cover all of those costs--and they really add up. Frequently they cost as much or more than the game(s) did to produce.
When we combine a low margin price (such as the one we offer on all of our KS projects) with this shipping expense, we do not make any profit if we are not very careful. We hope that the shipping we are charging for this project is as low as we can make it and still stay in business. We ask that you understand this and when we occasionally make mistakes in quoting shipping expenses and that you accept these changes. We will always give you a refund if we must make shipping fee changes and they are not acceptable to you.
We also reserve the right to combine the shipping of any and all pledges for multiple KS projects if the projects and the shipping are run close to the same time and if we can ship them all within a reasonable time (30 days) of us receiving them in our Kentucky warehouse. Of course, we will advise you ASAP if it looks like we will be holding up shipping for this reason and you will always have the right to pay additional fees to get expedited delivery on individual orders/pledges.
Internationally, for unusual shipping destinations or multiple games, get in touch with us and tell us the total how many games you want and which ones; and where you would like them shipped.
To get in touch with us, please send us a Message (not a Comment please) using the "Contact Me" button at the top of the KS project.
We will not ship to Russia, the Ukraine and select places in Asia and the rest of the world, except for specially-made arrangements wherein the Backer takes the risk involved in receiving the package.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
