PLEASE CONTINUE TO READ BELOW FOR MORE DETAIL AS TO THE CAMPAIGN
Over the years, one thing Electric Six has discovered is that the appetite of its fans for more music is unending, unyielding, and insatiable. In interactions with fans, the band is asked most often about two types of potential releases (beyond the yearly album of new material, of course): covers and rarities. Electric Six has enough cover ideas thrown at it by fans to fill up 20 albums, and ever since the release of the rarities compilation "Sexy Trash," we've had people clamoring for more obscurities and unheard gems.
So, we've decided to do them both. The purpose of this project is to make real the release of a two disc set (sorry, it'll be CD-only, no vinyl), to be entitled "Mimicry And Memories." The "Mimicry" disc will contain 12 covers, 8 of which have been selected by the band, with the remaining 4 cuts hopefully chosen by pledgers as part of this campaign. The "Memories" disc is a successor to "Sexy Trash," as a collection of outtakes and rarities from the full scope of the band's career. Included on this disc are THREE songs which were just recorded as part of the sessions for the band's forthcoming album on Metropolis Records, "Human Zoo." Thus, the sound quality of songs on this disc will vary from track to track, much as it did on "Sexy Trash." However, everything on the "Memories" disc is absolutely listenable and enjoyable. As those who own "Sexy Trash" will know, the nature and construction of Electric Six songs often shifts dramatically during the course of development, so demo versions of songs which did make it to albums which are included on this disc are different (sometimes radically so) than the "final" version. For the true Crazy, it's fascinating to see how the songs develop from embryonic version to their final state.
In keeping with the special nature of this project, these discs will only be available as part of this Kickstarter campaign. We won't be selling them at shows, they won't every be available at retail or via mailorder through the band's webshop, etc.
To whet your appetite, here's what we can tell you about the tracks to be included in this groundbreaking, culture-shaping, life-changing 2 disc set:

PLUS three songs recorded as part of the 2014 "Human Zoo" album sessions. We'll reveal those track titles at some point during the campaign.
Deep Crazies may want to know why certain songs aren't included here, such as those which were part of the online Machinima series "Bite Me" or songs from the California Milk Producer's "White Gold" advertising campaign. The simple answer is that we don't own the rights to that material. Electric Six was compensated for that work, just the same as if it had been done for a record company. What that means is we have no control over when, if ever, those songs are given a public release, and we can't include them here. Everything else, though, is fair game...the "Memories" disc really is the final clear out of unreleased E6 material worth hearing, so unless Electric Six is still around in 2030, this is probably the last "rarities and outtakes" release we'll ever be in position to do.
Much as with the "Absolute Treasure" project, this isn't entirely about the core product, though. We've tried to give you, the Crazies, a mix of new ideas and another shot at some of the more popular ones from the last campaign in the way of packages. Looking for a personally autographed (complete with individualized message) hardcover version of Dick Valentine's recent psycho-sexual noir thriller "Chinatown Reacharound?" We've got that. How about a 10 minute backrub for man, woman or indeterminate Third Gender? Step up, Crazy. Ever wanted Valentine to play in your living room? It's now possible.
Thus, the idea is this with regard to the "Mimicry And Memories" project: give fans the two things Electric SIx is asked for most often, covers and unreleased recordings in one package. Additionally, provide those fans who wish to participate interesting and unique options beyond the 2 disc set. We think we've done that with this project.
Risks and challenges
Risks are virtually nil, as E6 has all resources (once the project is funded successfully) on hand to drive it to completion.
Challenges, such as they are, mostly surround fulfillment. Having mounted a successful campaign in 2013, we are confident that the project will be similarly successful. A certain percentage of pledgers from outside the US (almost exclusively in the United Kingdom) faced issues with customs charges attaching to their rewards and that may occur again in this campaign. See the project FAQs for further discussion of this issue for non-US pledgers. Beyond that, we had right around 1% of pledgers not receive their package upon initial mailout and in all cases we are aware of, replacements were shipped ASAP and pledgers received their packages on the second attempt.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
