About this project
I am developing an RPG for PC reminiscent of the old Final Fantasy games. A fantasy game taking place in a time of darkness, the player must gather his party and defeat the Empire by siding with the Coalition, a group of rebels. Many perils stand between you and the kingdom.
I began work on this game early summer 2012. When I realized it was progressing well I knew I wanted to be able to produce physical copies of the game. That is exactly what this Kickstarter is for, funding the production of physical copies. I hope on finishing the game sometime in Spring 2013 and have the physical copies ready around Summer 2013, allowing for some refining after release.
I have looked at getting mass production of discs done and $1000 is the best deal. It will get me 1000 color printed CDs in jewel cases with covers. The more money I spend on discs, the more copies per dollar I get. I plan on selling any of the copies that I don't sell in this Kickstarter.

Hundreds of weapons and armor, all sorted into different categories. Over a hundred special skills and 10 different classes to wield them. The classes include Soldier, Monk, Paladin, Spellblade, Samurai, Archer, Thief, Priestess, Witch, Sage. Of those Soldier, Thief, Archer and Monk are the starting choices for your character. Throughout the game you will find potential party members of each class. Each class has unique stats and abilities and all the classes have a max level of 99. Boats, Ships and Airships make an appearance. Boats work in shallow water, Ships work in deep water and Airships fly over everything only requiring an empty space to land.
A unique feature I have added is an upgrading home town. As you progress through the main story line, your home town, Charlotte, will grow. From new residents to new shops your town expands constantly.
I intend for the length of the main story line to be about 20 hours, if not more. Adding in side quests and dungeon exploration the game should include about 40-60 hours of content. This is still a rough estimate, but it is what I intend on accomplishing.
A side note, nothing you see here about the game's story details can be considered final. As I develop the game, some things may just be too hard to accomplish, and the features and story details will change.
The team consists of mainly me, Keegan Belongia. I am a 16 year old high school student currently enrolled in almost entirely college courses. I have learned C++, C#, basic HTML, and Java. My 5.0 GPA also helps make feel as though I am as qualified as necessary to develop a computer game.
My sound artist wishes to remain mostly anonymous, but I can credit their You Tube account, hybridkoala. I hope to replace most, if not all, of the music I am using with music from this artist.
The game will also feature music by No Strangers, potentially playing in pubs or the end credits.
My father, Eric Belongia, is managing the money, legal aspects and has the final say in all important decisions, especially those relating to finances. He wants me to do as much as I can on my own, while he watches over me and my decisions to assure no mistakes are made.
The only other people involved are my friends who act as game testers.
There are going to be a few different versions of the game.
The regular digital edition will be a DRM free copy of the game. Accessible on my website, a password will be needed. Once the game is released you will also have access to all the old versions of the game, from Indev to Alpha to Beta.
The physical edition will be the game on a CD in a custom designed jewel case. The CD will have a color printed design as well. Once the game is released you will also have access to all the old versions of the game, from Indev to Alpha to Beta, just like the digital edition does.
As an added bonus, everyone who pledges and receives the game will also receive a special in game code for bonus content.
- $3,000 I will add a second primary quest, in an entirely different world.
- $4,000 I will be able to purchase promotional materials that will allow me to advertise my game and company. Backers at and above the $95 reward tier will receive a 100% cotton Dystopia Games T-Shirt. International backers CAN receive these shirts.
- $5,000 All physical copies are upgraded and given the extra digital content. Also, all backers at and above the $70 reward tier will receive a 100% cotton Dystopia Games T-Shirt. International backers CAN receive these shirts. ALSO everyone who is receiving a physical reward, like a T-Shirt or physical copy of the game, will recieve a 2"x 2" white vinyl sticker of the main character.
Risks and challenges
My main challenge is developing a gripping story line. My education is technically based. I will be using outside help from friends and family to develop the main story line, while the finer details will still be handled by me.
Another challenge I may encounter is a lack of time to spend on the project. Living on a school schedule, my free time is determined by the homework I am assigned. Some weeks I have too much work to sleep. But others I can dedicate dozens of hours to the game, uninterrupted. If I have not completed the game by Summer 2013, production will increase dramatically due to the complete absence of distractions. This leads to the risk that the game will take much longer than anticipated to complete.
The only other challenge I can foresee is my inability to advertise for this game. I have almost no connections in the gaming world, with Kickstarter being my only hope to get the word out about this game.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Game access will be done in phases.
After the project ends, I will send out surverys requesting information relating to the backer's tier, as well as a password. This password will be used in conjuction with a username I will assign. This login information is what you will use to access the game.
Indev backers will have access immediately after the Kickstarter. Indev backers are the first priority and this will be handled with the utmost speed. The surveys will go out as soon as possible. Almost as soon as your information is received, your login will be available, you will be notified of this.
Alpha backers will have access in about January. The surveys will go out soon after the Indev ones, so as long as you fill it out your login information will be ready for the Alpha release. You will be notified when this occurs.
The Beta access will function the exact same as Alpha, and is expected to be ready late February or early March.

I would hope so. But it would have to pass through Steam Greenlight first. And to do that I want the game to be complete before submitting.
I have been getting a lot of questions about these. I have to say no. The software I am using does not support those platforms. If it ever does become a possibility, I will get right on it.
No there is not. It has proved too difficult to accomplish. If you live over seas and want a higher tiered reward, then pledge for it, and you will receive the digital copy anyway. There will be a opt-out in the survey if you are internationally located.
