The Writing is on the Wall

The first 48 hours of a Kickstarter campaign is a vital indicator of the possibilities for success and it is unfortunately quite clear that we cannot reach our funding target for Worker Placement. Effective immediately, we are cancelling the campaign with an eye on relaunching in the future.

We have been in this position before with Upon a Fable, and came back to run a very successful second campaign. Talking with backers and industry allies, it is clear that we have made several missteps with this campaign and we will address them with a relaunch come the new year. We need to work with our factory partners to help get costs lower (which is allow us to lower the pledge amounts and funding target), need to find a way to run the campaign in US dollars instead of Canadian (which costs both backers and us more money), we have to spread the word about our campaign more effectively, and we need to get our first Kickstarter for Upon a Fable into every backer’s hands to showcase our performance.

Thank you so very much to those of you that backed Worker Placement early. We are very grateful for your support and look forward to welcoming you to the campaign relaunch in the new year. In the meanwhile, we encourage you to like our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/dyskami), follow us on Twitter (http://twitter.com/dyskami), and sign up for our email new list (http://on.fb.me/191Mpcu).

We’ll see you again soon!

At this point it's too early to tell exactly what we need to do to make the game more affordable while maintaining product integrity, but we will be thoroughly researching our factory options. We have some time to get it right and we're going to use it wisely. We'll certainly be announcing our plans here on the KS page as well.

How will you be lowering costs? I didn't notice super-premium components, and personally I''m willing to pay more for real tokens instead of cheap cardboard chits, especially if they're representational (like your cash, turn, and thumbs tokens) rather than generic.

Stretch goals to change the shape of the skill cubes (like turning the tech one into a tiny computer monitor) would make for a neat incentive.

I think having a hidden stretch goal was a mistake. You never know what will light a backer's fire.

I would have preferred card stock be improved before the meeples. Durability is important.

I hope you announce the restart here and not just on facebook so all the backers can get notice of it.

I'll be there for the relaunch! Can't wait to play the game. It looks great!
