About this project
Caffeine can be described as a quirky first person psychological horror game that includes puzzle based exploration gameplay.
Set in the near future of 2097, Earth's resources have run dry decades ago and big corporations have built vast fleets of mining space stations to mine the minerals required to create Caffeine and quench the thirst of billions.
You awaken aboard one of these caffeine mining stations alone. Before long you realise that you are a young boy with no memory of what has transpired on this seemingly empty space station.
Naturally you set out to explore the depths of the huge structure to figure out what exactly is going on.
Caffeine is currently already in development utilising the power of Unreal Engine 4, which makes the game visually stunning to look at.
How Will The Game Play?
At its core Caffeine is an exploratory horror game, however, that does not mean that it will be giant scary things happening all the time!
Caffeine has three main gameplay elements:
- Horror - You are alone in a mysteriously empty space station. Who knows what's out there!
- Lore - Sticky notes, audio logs, whiteboards etc. This place feels lived in with each character having a rich back-story that can be deciphered from just walking into an office or quarters.
- Puzzles - Cool simple puzzles to cure that never ending itch.
In fact why don't I just show you how the gameplay is shaping up?
There are two demos available at this time, the newest is utilising Unreal Engine 4 and the earlier demo was using Unreal Engine 3. Give it a try with the links below.

When Will The Game Be Out?
My plan for Caffeine is to have the game out in the first half of 2015 if funded.
Who Am I?
Hi there, my name is Dylan Browne and I am a young determined game developer from Adelaide, Australia.
I like to think of myself as a laid back movie buff who enjoys a good laugh and creating cool looking images, in addition I recently finished up work as a VFX Supervisor on a short indie film.
Caffeine is my first project and is quickly gaining quite a bit of traction online. Be sure to check out one of the many videos featuring the older Caffeine Demo!
Where Does It All Go?
For Caffeine I am asking the community to raise $70,000 AUD. This funding would enable me to:
- Work on the game on a full-time basis, enabling an early 2015 release and a higher quality product.
- Have more time to optimize the game for use with Oculus Rift.
- Have a fantastic soundtrack from Bay Drive Sound Studios (you have already heard their awesome work in the trailers and in the demo!)
- And of course, some awesome perks for all of you amazing backers!
Most of the perks come with a digital copy of the game's fantastic soundtrack composed by Adam Klingman of Bay Drive Sound Studios. This will be in the form of a digital download and will be delivered on release of the full game.
Starting with the Alpha Edition, perks come with alpha access before the release of the game. This will be in the form of a digital download and will have an NDA to help test the game before release.
Please Note: Alpha Access will be limited to the PC version (Windows, Mac, Linux)
Some perks come with a personalised sticky note message from me. This will be a high quality digital image and will be available before release as a download.
T-Shirts and Mugs
The later perks include Caffeine branded t-shirts and coffee mugs, those will be shipped towards the end of 2014.
From the Producer perk upwards the shirts and mugs you receive will be limited edition designs and will differ from the standard ones.
The "Name In The Game" perk allows you to have your name included as a character's name which will be included in their notes, possibly audio logs and possessions.
The "Photo In The Game" perk allows you to have a photo of you (within good taste) included in the game as a photograph.
The "Voice In The Game" perk allows you to have your voice included in one of the many audio logs scattered throughout the station in the game.
*All perks have worldwide postage included*
Risks and challenges
As an in-development game, Caffeine is evolving at a fast pace and so far there have been no setbacks (aside from some hard drive issues). If a set back or problem arises then I will tackle it in a responsible manner.
Caffeine is like a pet project of mine, I have poured a heap of my time into the game and I will do whatever it takes to get it completed as I really enjoy working on such a cool game!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
