Update: Sir Stirling Moss
Just this past week, I received a letter from Sir Stirling Moss giving me the permission to use his name in the story. It was a hope of mine for this amazing car to have been "once driven by the legendary Stirling Moss" – introducing a whole new generation not just to the Maserati 300S, but to one of the greatest drivers ever to have gripped a wooden wheel. Graciously, Sir Stirling has allowed me to do so. So this isn't just the story of a car, a boy, and his dad. It's the story of an icon, as well.
Help me bring this book to life.
This is too great an opportunity – too great an honor – to waste.
How did it start?
When my son was born, I went looking for the perfect Father/Son/Car book and I couldn't find it. So I'm creating one. It's a gift for my son, but ultimately, for all sons, daughters and car-loving families.
Where is it now?
After many rewrites and revisions, the story is essentially complete. Nearly all of the concept art is sketched, and several rough illustrations are well on their way. All final illustrations are yet to be done, but the planning is complete and the groundwork is laid. I am VERY excited about where this book is headed. The art will definitely pay homage to the racing posters of old.
What's the story?
The video intro is actually the first few pages of the story. After that, the car ends up walled off in a barn and a boy discovers it decades later – through a knothole that's just his height. Of course, a beauty such as this 300S can't be left a mess, so thus begins the story of a father-son restoration project and the return of this gem to the tarmac.
Cool automotive features
I'm brainstorming numerous add-ons to bring an extra level of enjoyment to future car-lovers. Among these, is a "Certificate of Title" inside the front cover. ("Billy" can be the "owner", but mom or dad can hold the lien!) Also in the works, a VIN number "plate" for the back of the book. I'm also developing a "blueprint" of the car as a possible folded insert. There's a lot of exploration yet to be done, but there are going to be some very special features – I promise!
The Little Red Racing Car has been featured in various articles and interviews including Road&Track, MotorTrend, Sports Car Digest, Jean Jennings, Design.org and more. In fact, The Little Red Racing Car logo has been voted an award winner in iheartlogos® and published in Volume 3, judged by the popular vote of designers.
Made in the USA
I’m printing this book in the USA. It will cost more, but it's worth it. If I can keep someone employed for just another 15 minutes – I’m going to do just that. T-shirts will be printed right here in Arizona on top quality US made organic cotton shirts and the mugs will be printed just down the road in San Jose, California. I will be casting the bronze sculptures for top tier Patrons locally, as well.
I have put a lot of thought into creating rewards that I believe will both be desirable and, with any success for The Little Red Racing Car, have a real possibility of significant growth in value. I don’t plan on this being a single book. I am building a brand with staying power. So I am offering original art and limited edition prints very intentionally to benefit those that were the first to support The Little Red Racing Car. I truly hope that you can find a reward tier that is a perfect fit for you.
Phoenix Children's Hospital
I've established contacts at the Phoenix Children's Hospital and pre-arranged for the donation of a load of The Little Red Racing Car books should this campaign succeed. So please give consideration to the rewards titled "Beneficiary". The size of this delivery is up to you!
All or nothing...
Like all projects on Kickstarter, this is all or nothing. So if we do not hit the $25,000 mark, the campaign fails and goes unfunded.
Big dreams and high hopes...
If the only thing we do is print this book, I'll be happy and forever grateful for your support. But given all of the enthusiasm I've seen before even getting this project to Kickstarter, I have hopes for even more! I can’t tell you how much I want to make this story into a film. Just imagine the rays of light slicing through the cracks in an old barn wall and across the long neglected bonnet of the 300S. Then picture the look in a young boy's eyes as he sees it for the first time!
I've been amazed by the support I've received up to now, personal letters, emails and mentions in the media. I am so excited for this next chapter and where it may may lead. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of this dream with me. I can't wait to see where we end up!
My network is limited, but together our reach is tremendous. So if you believe in this dream and want to see it succeed – please share it. Tweet it. Share it on Facebook. Post it on your friends walls. Send emails to car loving friends. Print this flyer and tape it to people's doors – or backs...

Risks and challenges
I'm one guy juggling a lot of stuff. That includes my roles as a Design Director and a Father. I'm attempting delivery of this book in time for Father's Day, but the fact is, it could just as likely be October before the book is in hand. So while I solemnly swear to work on this project every single day, my estimated dates are just that, estimates!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
