About this project
We Are On A Mission To Make Cycling Easier
Our Unique Product
- Chain-free - Priority Bicycles do away with messy chains that ruin clothes and feature clean belt drives that’ll make your ride smooth. In 1984 Harley Davidson replaced their chains with belt drives, too. Why? Chains require lubrication, they rust, and are susceptible to the weather. Belt drives are more durable, more quiet, and cleaner.
- Lightweight Aluminum Frame - Unlike conventional steel frames, Priority is made from strong, lightweight aluminum to make it easy to carry the bike up and down stairs. The aluminum is also rust-proof, making Priority perfect if you live near the beach or somewhere with rain or snow.
- Super Comfy Saddle - Riding should be enjoyable, so your seat should never make you feel sore. Our saddle has two layers of foam to make sure you're always comfortable.
- Upright Seating Position – Sore backs can be a byproduct of biking, but not with Priority. Our bikes are designed for upright seating to ensure you feel as good after the ride as you did before.
- Theft Deterrent - We know you’ll fall in love with Priority, and we want to do anything we can to keep our bikes with their proud owners. By using bolts instead of quick releases, Priority makes it more difficult for thieves to disassemble parts. You'll still have to lock up your bike, but bolts are a precaution Priority has taken to make theft more difficult.
- Puncture Resistant Tires - It’s the little details that make riding Priority easy. We're not saying you'll never get a flat, but those thorns and glass have to work a lot harder to ruin your ride.
- Easy to Assemble - Once your bike arrives, nothing stands between you and the open roads except a simple four-step, five minute assembly process that requires no previous technical bike knowledge.
- Everything You Need - Priority Bicycles are designed to get you on the road quickly and easily. When you purchase a bike, everything you need is included, from a tire pump and assembly tools, to a kickstand to a water bottle cage.
We know you're busy. That’s why we've reimagined the bicycle through innovative design and unparalleled engineering and created a bike for recreational riders that is easy to assemble, easy to ride, and requires no regular maintenance. You will not find a more high quality bicycle at a lower price point than Priority.
Our founder, Dave Weiner, started Priority because he was frustrated with bicycles on the market. There has been so much innovation in the industry, but all to the benefit to professional riders. Dave wanted to change the game for the recreational cyclist.
Growing up in the bicycle industry before starting a career in computer software, Dave dreamed of returning to the industry and making it easier for the everyday person to own and operate a bicycle.
As Dave says, “Life’s too short to ride a bad bicycle.”
Our goal is to bring joy to the journey. Our unique features and technology have been carefully engineered to ensure your Priority bicycle is ready to get you wherever you need to be as smoothly, efficiently, and stylishly as possible.
Priority Bicycle Features and Benefits:
Gears and Brakes
Most bicycles under $500 come with 1 gear or 7+ gears. For most people, this is either not enough options, or way too many. We make it easy by providing three gears; while most of the day you'll be in gear two, you can gain speed in gear three, or taking it easy and go up hills in gear one. Our internally geared hub can also go thousands of miles with no maintenance, as opposed to traditional derailleurs, which need maintenance every year.
Remember a foot brake from when you were a kid? You probably would slam back on the foot brake to try and make skid marks. Fast forward to today and the foot brake in our three speed hub is very advanced, bringing you to a quick and safe stop. Pedal forward to go and backwards to stop, our bicycle is easy, safe and reliable.
Our Development Process
We truly wanted to rethink cycling for the recreational rider, so we started with a blank slate and studied each component to figure out how to make a more simple, more reliable, and maintenance-free bicycle while still maintaining an affordable price.
We developed dozens of frame drawings and geometry configurations to make sure everything would be comfortable, beautiful, and functional.
Our first prototype proved to be extremely durable, but aesthetically didn't have the look we wanted. We partnered with designers to create the perfect color palette, and met with 17 different contract manufacturers to find the perfect home to build our Priority Bicycles.
After tireless effort, we're proud to say Priority Bicycles are the best product on the market for the recreational rider. Not only do they look great. Not only do they ride great. They're affordable.

Risks and challenges
Because we already have factory samples that ride great, we believe the risks to late delivery are low. We invite you to come to our New York workshop and give one a ride to see for yourself. As with all overseas trade, unforeseen complications can always pop up. Our founder, Dave, will be personally visiting the factory multiple times during the production process to ensure every Priority Bicycle is up to our standards, and will deliver on time. We will keep our backers posted every step throughout the production process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We so appreciate anybody who pledges for multiple bikes. Simply increase your pledge by the amount appropriate and we will know that you want multiple bikes. When we survey for sizes and colors we will survey you for multiple. For example, if you want to pledge for two bikes, pledge $768, for three bikes pledge $1,152 (plus NY tax or Canada shipping if applicable).
If you already pledged and you want to increase your pledge, look for the "Manage Your Pledge" button above my photo on the main page. Thank you again for backing us.
Our bicycles should not require routine maintenance for many years assuming the bicycle is being used for recreational purposes.
Traditional bikes on the market not only require technical knowledge for assembly, but also require routine upkeep on the derailleurs, brakes, and chain. Priority Bicycles assemble in just a few simple steps, and we’ve engineered smart design decisions such as internal hub gears and braking which can go years without needing any service. Our bikes also feature a belt instead of a standard chain; no lubrication is required, and our belt is expected to last between two and ten times longer than a traditional roller chain.
Priority Bicycles are also built with rust-free aluminum frames and puncture-resistant tires, and come with a floor air pump at no additional cost, which typically run around $40 in a bicycle shop. This is all in an effort to keep our bikes virtually maintenance-free and take the headache out of cycling so that you can ride on your terms.
We went with foot brakes for a variety of reasons:
1. For recreational cycling, they are simply easier. They are non-intimidating and work really well.
2. Compared to the other recreational bikes we tested in this price range, our foot brake stops much faster than the hand brakes we found on those bikes.
3. No maintenance was key to our design, and hand brakes require maintenance. Plus if your wheels are slightly bent with hand brakes you can be really slowed down, with foot bakes you won't even notice.
4. Foot brakes are intuitive and fun!
We plan to use the Shimano Nexus 3 hub, it's foot brake stops incredibly fast and is well modulated so that you don't simply skid like you were a kid. If you're skeptical on the foot brake and live in NYC, come try a bike. If you live outside of NYC, read what others have said in the comments section about how impressed they with how well the bike stops.
We created this short video with some feedback from test riders about the foot brake: http://youtu.be/engZN7VKNqI
YES! Please add $50 to the $384 option for a total of $434 and we would love to send you a bike in Canada. Please note that you are responsible for all duties, taxes and brokerage fees. When you checkout, you must tell Kickstarter we're shipping to the US (yes this is confusing), however when we survey you (after August 14) we will know based on your pledge amount that it's going to Canada and at that time you will pick size, color and give us your Canadian address.
Unfortunately it does not. We hope to be able to provide shipping to Alaska and Hawaii in the near future, but right now we don't have a cost effective method.
We would love to ship to everywhere! Our research via the common carriers told us it would cost as much as the bike, which is why we are not offering it as an option today. Many backers have reported using freight forwarding services, where Priority will ship the bike to an address in the US and the forwarding service will cost effectively route it along to you. If you want to investigate a forwarding service, you will need the weight and dimensions.
While the bike weighs about 25lbs, once you include all of the packaging to keep the bike secure, the pump and tools, the total carton weight is about 40lbs. The carton dimensions are approx. 53.2" x 7.5" x 28.4" - it's all subject to change slightly, but that should be enough for estimation purposes. If you find a great service, please drop us a line to let us know.
The blue bike in our video was an early prototype only. The actual color blue is much deeper and can be found on our Sizes and Colors chart above. We also have some images on our website.
Our sample traditional diamond frame in S/M weighs 25lbs. We expect the S/M step-through to be about the same. The XS/S step-through will be a bit lighter, and the M/L traditional diamond will be a bit heavier.
Yes, we plan to offer lights, fenders, locks, helmets and a few other select accessories. We expect to have all of our accessories on our website by December for holiday shipping. They will follow similar concepts of beautiful design, simple and practice use, yet affordable. We will keep our backers updated on our progress of accessory development.
Our bikes feature 700x35 puncture resistant tires.
YES! We will also carry these accessories on our website later this year. Our bike can accommodate some standard racks and fenders as well.

Our belt is made by C-Drive, www.cycledrive.com and is designed to last from two to ten times longer than a traditional roller chain. The extrapolated usage is 6 years or 10,000 miles. Replacement belts will be for sale from Priority Bicycles and can be ordered from most local bicycle shops.
All riders will appreciate the many advantages of the modern belt drive system used on Priority. Not only is it completely maintenance free and non-greasy to the touch, it is also feels a lot smoother and is more silent that a normal chain. The special hi-tech construction of this belt ensures many years of easy, rust-free cycling without the need for maintenance or adjustment. Aggressive riding or a sudden excessive force applied at the pedals by a stronger or heavier rider might cause the belt to skip a tooth which is undesirable. This will not happen during normal cycling when a steady, even pressure is applied to the pedals.
