About The Documentary
In Vermont’s backcountry, skiing is a paired down, rugged, and raw ski experience that is representative of Vermont and the Vermonter.
Angus McCusker wants to share the backcountry experience and he wants it to be accessible, safe, and sustainable. However, when he sets out to create a community that can provide a backcountry experience, he has more questions than answers. Together with a group of local residents, they organize themselves as the Rochester Randolph Area Sports Trails Alliance (RASTA)and lay the foundation for the nation's first managed backcountry ski zone.
Leave Nice Tracks follows this group and explores the community they are forging. The audience experiences the challenges and obstacles they face including acknowledging risk and responsibility for the environment, the future viability of winters in light of climate change, and if the success of a growing community is fundamentally at odds with sustainability.
Join us as we follow this small group of individuals as they grow into a movement spreading across North America.
The Team and Production Schedule
Currently in post-production, we filmed for nearly 4 years, affording the project both a range of multi-season footage and the opportunity to intimately connect to our key characters during the development of RASTA. During these last four years we poured our time, energy, and wallets into telling this motivational story. We've followed RASTA since they began cutting their first zone on private land to the launch of the of the nation's first ever ski zone on federal land. We traveled from New York City to Central Vermont countless times to spend our days trudging through the snow, driving to meetings and homes for interviews, all to spend each night in a tent, on a floor or a couch.
Our aim is to complete the film this fall with the support of the Kickstarter community. This will allow us to submit it to film festivals, and ultimately seek distribution after festival screenings. This is only possible with your support! This process from start to finish has been a long and tedious (and expensive) one, but we felt it was necessary in order to tell the story of RASTA and the impacts groups like this can make in their own communities. We value all the support we receive and can assure you each dollar spent is done so intentionally and purposely. We need your support to carry this film across the finish line!
Rewards for your support!
We have a variety of offerings for you as a backer of our project! Ranging from LNT merchandise to backpacks from Backcountry Access, to the most comfortable hiking boots any of us have every worn from Danner. We hope that our rewards not only make you want to get involved, but also push you to continue getting into the outdoors and making your own adventures!

Risks and challenges
Luckily, for our backers, we've managed the risks and challenges ourselves over the course of the last four years. We've poured our blood, sweat, and tears into this project, as well as emptied our wallets.
There is no doubt that this project will be completed; however, your support will enable us to finish this in a timely fashion and premiere this fall. For more information visit www.leavenicetracks.com @LeaveNiceTracks
