About this project
New to Dust? Why not check out this video, in which Phil Yates, who worked with Olivier Zamfirescu on designing the rules for Dust Tactics v.2 and Dust Tactics Battlefield, talks you through the basics of this exciting game (well, actually two games).
April 1947. When the Blutkreuz Korps unearthed records of an ancient alien energy source hidden in Mesopotamia, they started working on plans to recover it. Now their plans are coming to fruition.
Dust models are unique; they bridge the gap between wargaming miniatures and highly detailed plastic model kits. Each Dust model is expertly pre-assembled and spray-primed in a single faction-specific undercoat colour. Even if you don't like to paint, the models are ready straight out of the box.
The Premium Edition range of models are individually painted by Dust Studio's in-house team of experts to exactly match the master-painted studio models featured in the Dust books, cards and promotional materials.
Tactician backers will receive a copy of the 72-page full-color campaign book, which includes the detailed background of Operation Babylon, rules for fielding all the exciting new units for each nation, special rules for captured walkers, desert terrain and conditions, scenarios and more.
For those new to the world of Dust, New Recruit gets you a copy of the new Dust Tactics rule book, a set of faction-specific Dust dice, and an introductory army featuring a hero, infantry squad and a combat walker, as well as two printed gaming posters - gridded playing surfaces on which to fight your battles - and heavy-duty cardboard terrain tiles. (Note - not eligible for stretch goal upgrades unless your total pledge, including optional add-ons, totals $150 or more)
To get you and a friend into Dust, The New Recruit 2 Player Set gives you a copy of the Dust Tactics rule book, the Operation Babylon campaign book, plus any combination of TWO New Recruit starter forces chosen from Kampfgruppe Baumann, Battlegroup Kiritchenko and Taskforce MacDonald. (Note - not eligible for stretch goal upgradesunless your total pledge, including optional add-ons, totals $150 or more)
The Troop Leader level gets you your choice of Army Deals (which will include cards for Dust Tactics and Dust Warfare) the Free Upgrade Pack for that army, a free copy of Operation Achilles and a free Sisters of Demolition unit. Check out the graphic at the top of the page to see everything that's included.
The Taskforce Commander reward level is like Troop Leader, but also includes a copy of the Operation Babylon campaign book, game posters and terrain cards.
Backers at the Field Marshal level will receive a full army deal, including everything unlocked at the Troop Leader level, fully painted as part of our Premium Edition range.
Mercenaries can join any army! Every pledger of $150 or more will receive this new unit free, but perhaps you want more than one!
Sorry, we can't offer Premium painted versions of the Operation Achilles models, but don't worry - they are already available for purchase from the Dust Studio site.
8 separate sections of wall let you create a wide variety of different configurations of cover for your troops.
The Operation Babylon campaign book already comes with gaming colorful gaming layouts printed on high-quality glossy poster paper. But for players who want a premium gaming experience, you can add on durable vinyl mats. The vinyl lies flat for ease of play. It can be marked with dry-erase or wet-erase markers to temporarily alter terrain areas or make other notes about battlefield conditions during play.
The vinyl game mats measure 33” x 23” / (83.6 cm x 55.7 cm)
The post-campaign pledge manager will allow you to select which mat(s) you want by referring to the letter codes.
Some people still find it a little strange when established companies use crowd funding, but there are good reasons why it is increasingly becoming the norm. It is a very effective way of allowing us to achieve more, sooner. Because of the high cost of quality plastic tooling, we have always had to bring out new models a little at a time. By backing this project, you can help us accelerate the production of all the amazing new Operation Babylon models, and get them in your hands much sooner.
With the price of shipping steadily rising over the last few years, it is not possible for us to offer free shipping on this Kickstarter. But we don't want anyone to have to pay more than necessary, so we will be using a post-campaign pledge manager to charge each backer an accurate shipping amount based on their order size and location.
After the campaign closes, the pledge manager will make sure you are charged the correct amount to ship your pledge to you. If you want to include shipping in your pledge total before the campaign closes, you can refer to the following chart:
Risks and challenges
We have every confidence that we can deliver Operation Babylon without trouble.
Because the production and distribution of this project will happen in an accelerated timeframe, (that’s the main reason for doing it!) there is the unlikely possibility of unexpected delays. Production will rely on third-party manufacturers for casting, printing and packaging. Of course, we have a proven history of working with these businesses, and have found them to be very reliable. However, an unanticipated problem with any stage of production could delay delivery for some items.
Dust Studio are working with Battlefront to bring this project to completion. Battlefront will handle the fulfillment of the pledges, shipping the rewards to backers through their worldwide distribution network. Whenever you try to transport large volumes of goods around the world, there is always the potential for customs delays and other shipping headaches.
But we have worked carefully to plan our delivery estimates, and we do expect to be able to meet them. Theoretically, If it should transpire that most of the project is completed and ready to ship, with just a few late items holding things up, we intend to consult with our backers about the best way to proceed; if people preferred for us to ship items in ‘waves’, rather than waiting for the last few items, we would try to proceed accordingly. But honestly, we do not expect this to be a concern, and we look forward to completing Operation Babylon on schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
