Welcome to Dungeon Crawler™ ECG. An ECG is an expandable card game, in which you can pool your expansions together with the core game (the starter) in a true sandbox environment where you create the dungeons, decide on what Adventurers to use, what Quests to face, and what tools you use to defeat that dungeon.
Dungeon Crawler™ is primarily designed to be played solo, but can be expanded for co-operative, competitive or multi-player. You can play a 65 card starter version of solo or co-op with just the Unbound Starter, and with any single expansion pack, you can play the full 80 card deck game.
This is where The Thorn comes in. This would be our 2nd expansion pack following Mines of Khurgan. This 82 card expansion will include all new cards, including; a new hero (Adventurer), a new Quest, 40 new Crawler cards (your tools to face the dungeon), and 40 new Dungeon cards (monsters, traps, events, terrain).
An excellent review of the game, with game play, can be found here by Ricky Royal of Box of Delights. There are 3 parts to this review if you are interested in learning more about the game play.
And now a review from Undead Viking! *Note, I've spoken to undead Viking about encounter builds ending at 5; you do not draw more cards, it's made his gaming a little easier. ;)
Long long ago, the battle between the High Elves and the Dark Elves waged on, there seemed to be no end in sight. The Dark Elves believed that there should be a new world order and that they would be the masters of the mortal realms. However, even with the support of the unseely fae their claim to the throne would forever be blocked by their ancestors the seely fae. Regardless the armies of the Mystic, Shadow, Chaos and Wild elves rose and struck out to claim their birthright. The High Elves believed they should continue to serve the fae faithfully and guarded them with their very lives against their own brethren.
Endro' radluhzak was called forth from the High Elf ranks, a promising Stone Elf general and a wise and powerful wizard. He was charged to stop the bloodshed, so he began to study the war at hand to bring about it's end. He spent decades studying his kin the Dark elves. He took an overview of their tactics and analysed the way the war was heading, and then he just vanished.
The Fae feared he'd been captured and was being tortured somewhere in the darkness below, but search as they might, they could not find him. A few decades passed, the battle waged on, and then a terror appeared on the battlefield, Zhuldar the cursed lich. Zhuldar hunted, captured and slaughtered every Wild Elf he could find with his undead army, many just simply vanished until none were left to be found.
The Fae wept, for they knew who Zhuldar was, he was their once promising general. "Why?" They asked.
"They were your enemy," he replied with his emotionless mask of remaining flesh.
"You were told to stop the bloodshed!"
"I have. There are no more Wild elves in all of Aerymohr, you now outnumber the Dark elves twenty to one, if they continue their attack they will lose. The Shadow elves are too self serving, the Chaos elves too distracted and the Mystic elves too recluse, that left the Wild Elves. The Wild Elves were their strong arm, they were the most proliferating of the dark ones, the most easily manipulated, they had the numbers and would never relent. With them gone, you will have the best chance at a lasting peace with the least amount of loss."
With that final statement Zhuldar vanished and a dark spot grew in the Sylvan Woods where an immense old abandoned tower stood. It was once called Athrandohre, they renamed it the Thorn.
Zhuldar knew what he needed to do to end the war with the least amount of bloodshed, but he knew the high elves and fae would not join him or permit him to carry out his task, they might have even tried to stop him. So, he needed power and an army, and he went out in to the world and got it only returning to complete his mission and rest until he was needed again.
Take your party on a dark quest to face the master of the Thorn.
We are looking to fund the remaining artwork and the first production run. As we deal almost entirely in US Funds and our campaign is being run in CAD, we've had to adjust our goals to work as best as we can. We need to sell 500 units of this expansion (or a variation of this amount) to succeed.
We have a few pieces of artwork already complete and have recently commissioned more artwork, but still quite a ways to go - so here we are!
As we finish more artwork, we will be posting it in our updates and on our site.
CLARIFICATION (on PLEDGES)
STRETCH GOALS AND BEYOND!
In regards to Stretch Goals, we are looking at adding some promotional cards at every $400 mark beyond our goal, which will be added to the base pledges for free (starting with the Expansion Pack $20 pledge level). There are 5 NEW planned Thorn Promos which will include alternate hero artwork, and a new Dragon (we have dropped this from 2 Dragons to move the Scenario Packs closer).
We have now included a Resource Tracker card at $10.5k.
Beyond that we have an additional special Stretch Goals called Scenario Packs, which will contain 13 cards each (not 10) and put a major twist on the base game, check our 4th Update for more info!
We now use a USA based printer, that delivers much better quality, faster, without the issues of overseas shipping and customs. Our Delve Packs and Mines of Khurgan are of excellent quality.
Someday we hope to upgrade our Starters with a full Rulebook and better print quality (maybe even a more homogeneous artistic look). If this campaign does well enough, we are looking to do this as well.
LEARN MORE ABOUT THE GAME
As a design choice, we chose to have the rules available online, so that updates and errata (which were inevitable) could be updated with ease. This was a mistake. As it was my first game and since I come from an online game design background, I had decided to put a Players Guide as a kind of refresher included with the game instead of a full rule set.

Rest of the world, depending on your order and location, a flat rate has been applied to the pledges. *Please note that extra shipping charges may apply based on the quantity and size of your add-ons.
Risks and challenges
We have a pretty reliable list of artists available for work, so this will not be what holds us up, if anything. We are printing in the USA and we've used these printers for our new Delve Packs, and they are certainly reliable, and there will be no customs to contend with as we'll be shipping to our warehouse. Our greatest possible challenges would be getting overwhelmed with orders or working out the EU Friendly side of things as this will be a first for us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
