Lucas is the main character in the interactive learning book, Choose with Lucas. He is a 4 year old boy who goes to kindergarten, and through the book we get to make some choice for him. What happens, how it makes Lucas feel, and the outcome of the story, is dependant of the choices the child, reading the book, makes.
The book also contains a guide on topics and questions to ask the child(ren), to help them reflect on their own actions and (limited) experience, along with a guide for the reader (adult) on how to approach these topics, to make the child feel safe and secure, in sharing these experiences and feelings.
It provides context to speak about subjects like good and bad choices, consequences and how our focus can change how we feel.
What’s it about?
The story revolves around Lucas. A 4 year old preschooler, who goes to kindergarten. In the book Choose with Lucas, we follow Lucas through his day in kindergarten. Lucas has had a bad start on the day, and at kindergarten, he makes a choice he instantly regrets.
The story then leads up to the first choice of the book, a choice of focus.
It then develops into two different storylines, that lead up to a second choice, a choice of keeping one's promises or not.
These lead to four different outcomes, where there still are two main storylines, there now is an additional, slightly alternate version of both storylines.
These lead up to the third and last choice, a choice of responsibility, with four different outcomes.
Who’s it for?
The book is meant for 3-7 year old, although 3 year olds, and younger, might have difficulty responding to the morale and questions in the story.
It can be used both 1 on 1 with your own child, or in a forum with 2-20 children.

3 quick ones about me:
- I am a firm believer in "you get what you give".

What can I do to help?
First of you could consider pledging and thereby also recieving one of the awesome rewards, that follows your pledge. You can also help spread the word of this campaign on your social network, or by recommending it to your friends.
What is 'Kickstarter'?
Kickstarter is a ‘crowd funding’ page, where authors, artists and inventors can make a campaign, to raise funds for a product, by selling it to you, before it’s ‘out there’. In my case, you can be the first to get your hands on a ‘Choose with Lucas’ book, digital and hardcover.
Pledging a project on Kickstarter is both easy and secure.
Choose the pledge you want make to the campaign, from the list on the right side of the screen, choose your country, and click ‘Continue’.
You are taken to the secured payment page, where you enter credit information and mail, and click ‘Pledge’.
Your card is not credited at this point. Only if the campaign reaches it’s goal, it will be credited after the campaign ends. If the campaign fails to reach it’s goal, your card is not credited.
Around 15.000 kr. of the 30.000 kr. (around $2200 of the $4400) goes to the artist. The last 15.000 kr. (around $2200) goes to publishing costs, reward production and shipping cost.
What if you exceed the goal?
Well the first order of subject is to add another Character, Sarah, to the e-book version of the story. Thereby changing the story to Choose with Lucas and Sarah.
The next is to make a another edition of the real book, where the main character of the book is Sarah.
The third step is to make a ‘Lucas and Sarah App’ for iOS, Android and Windows 10, with games for kids ages 3-7, that comes as a free download.
Risks and challenges
I've hired an amazing illustrator, who really understands what I'm trying to accomplish with this book. If the project is successful, the only risk is a delay in delivery, since we want it to be perfect, before sending the book out into the real world.
Kids under the age of 4 might not be able to reflect on past experience (Piaget/Theory of Mind), and thereby not get the full benefits of the book, but I'm confident they will enjoy the story still.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
