RALPH LAUREN STARTED WITH TIES.
RAG & BONE, SOME JEANS.
ALEXANDER WANG, NOVELTY SWEATERS.
BAND OF OUTSIDERS, A BUTTON UP SHIRT.
AND DUC KIEN US WILL BEGIN WITH A JEAN JACKET.
IT WENT LIKE THIS. I looked online for a comparable lifestyle brand employing both the minimal and contemporary aesthetics of A.P.C., BAND OF OUTSIDERS, and STEVEN ALAN, while maintaining J. CREW and CLUB MONACO price points. This proved difficult. On top of this, shipping is rarely free and is instead an added cost to web based shopping. This should be standard.
Exasperated for a lifestyle brand that has the aesthetic, design, AND price I sought out, I went ahead and slowly developed one from the ground up. This is how DUC KIEN US came about.
What spurred this was my urge to buy a jean jacket. The jean jacket is having a bit of a moment. (Make your way to GQ.COM, where a current spread on this iconic men's staple is present.) On a particular web store visit to A.P.C., I found a lovely one, at 290USD. I balked at the price. Adding insult to injury, an additional 11USD is charged for shipping. Looking smartly dressed should not be this costly. As a result, I made my own.
This jean jacket, under the DUC KIEN US banner, is an amalgamation of all great things that exist in the contemporary menswear market at the price point of moderate brands. As a retail entity available only online (HTTP://DUCKIEN.US), prices are inclusive of shipping and returning costs. This is a fantastic alternative from the higher priced.
To the point, here is the fine jean jacket by DUC KIEN US—
Three prototypes later, the jacket turned out nicely and yields all things I've craved in a jean jacket. It is very much so representative of the lifestyle brand I imagined. This jean jacket will make you look smart and current, especially with its raised chest pockets, slim sleeves, and lengthened torso. See below for further description—
Note its modern simple aesthetic. Design should be a lifestyle brand's only indicator, not by outside logos, engraved trims, or labels.
PRICING. The ambition is simple; to design "the best, for the most, for the least." At 125USD, with complimentary shipping both ways, this jacket is accomplishing that. And right now, this can only be found on KICKSTARTER.
You'd be hard pressed to locate a contemporary menswear brand on the internet offering a similar product at this price with this shipping service.
VERSATILITY. I enlisted the kind assistance of colleagues to demonstrate how the jean jacket holds up on various body types, all while looking sharp doing so. And it's not restricted to guys. For ladies who own menswear, this jacket is very much so open to you.
Specific measurements are below—
WHERE YOU COME IN. This amounts to nothing without help from KICKSTARTER backers like yourselves. The funding assists in fulfilling the minimum order requirement for the initial production. When you pledge 125USD, DUC KIEN US is able to offer good product and stellar service to the sharply dressed man now and for the long haul.
THIS IS HOW IT WILL GET DONE. Two years of experience in the apparel business (make your way to the creator profile for my LINKEDIN), I wanted to make good clothes that I'd want to buy, so I reached out to several contacts in this industry.
I discussed with a long time manufacturer of mine to see if this jean jacket was feasible. And it was. I built a strong working relationship with this awesome woven garment factory in Nantong, China for the past year and a half, and their quality is fantastic. For five months, it's been constant communication from design to prototype to producing what is presented here.
IN SHORT. With your contribution to this project, you've established DUC KIEN US as a bonafide contemporary menswear company, and in return, we can continue to offer guys like yourselves affordable design.
52 backers at the 125USD reward tier, and DUC KIEN US is golden.

Risks and challenges
This is the production calendar:
A. 14 days for Amazon to process all pledges before transferring funds to my Amazon account.
B. 30 days for full production, from cutting and sewing to packing the finished goods.
C. 12 days for the goods to ship by ocean from Shanghai to Long Beach's port.
D. 7 days for customs clearance. As a first time importer, the freight handler informed me that customs will more than likely inspect the shipment.
E. 7 days for quality control, then packing and shipping to backers, once the goods are delivered.
Biggest challenge is timing, as this is a one man operation. Still, I've added some padding here and there to ensure that delivery dates will indeed be met and you receive what is expected from DUC KIEN US.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
