Forsaken Castle is a 16-bit style, action exploration platformer, about a paladin and her fight against evil. Inspired by classic metroidvania games, you will discover new abilities, fight deadly creatures, and explore a handcrafted world created in a retro pixel art style.

Lily is a newly appointed paladin sent to investigate the appearance of undead near the sleepy little village of Atoh. Her search lead her to an old castle that was known to have been long since abandoned. Now, the castle has seemingly come back to life, with faint lights visible and the drawbridge closed in the distance.
Being new to her order and armed with a desire to prove herself a capable paladin, she decides to find a way into the castle and destroy the source of the undead, but doesn't realize the evil she is ultimately about to face.

Zack is composing the music for our game! He has created amazing music for several games including Valdis Story: Abyssal City.
Making video games can be quite expensive and time-consuming to produce. The usual way involves going to a publisher to help fund a project to completion. However, working with a publisher has its drawbacks. You have to follow their wishes, which can often result in a diminished take on your vision for a project. They are also less likely to allow a project to go in a direction that they would consider more "risky".
This is where Kickstarter comes in! From here, we have a unique opportunity to work directly with our fans where making a quality game is always the top priority.
After fees and physical rewards are accounted for, much of the funding will go towards getting some great music made. Once the music budget has been covered, any additional will go into producing the best quality art and additional polish put into the game.

$150 - Paladin: PHYSICAL REWARDS: the SNES style Collector's Box (includes an SNES style Cartridge USB stick with a copy of the game, a Soundtrack CD, and old school Manual), a Commemorative Button, and 2 Handcrafted Perler Beads (Axe and Fireball). $300 - Crusader: PHYSICAL REWARDS: get a Kickstarter Exclusive Collector's Coin, a Forsaken Castle T-Shirt, printed Artbook, and 2 Handcrafted Perler Beads (Lily and Holy Water). Your name in the credits will appear under "Crusader", and includes all previous rewards.
$400 - Sentinel: Get a custom pixel portrait of yourself, friend, or even pet that will randomly appear in the castle. They might also attack Lily when she isn't looking! Your name in the credits will appear under "Sentinel", and includes all previous rewards.
$500 - Protector: Get an upgraded pixel portrait of yourself, friend, or even pet that will have a permanent place in the castle! It will also include a plaque that other players will be able to read. The plaque can contain any name and description you want (with our approval). The portrait will also randomly appear around the castle. Your name in the credits will appear under "Protector", and includes all previous rewards.
$600 - Lorekeeper: Want to create your family as a noble house? How about a tale of a band of rough and tough mercenaries who help rescue kittens? Put on your roleplaying hat and make something that will endure for games to come! This option may never appear again with our future projects! Your name in the credits will appear under "Lorekeeper", and includes all previous rewards.
$800 - Vindicator: You'll be able to design a Monster, Your name in the credits will appear under "Vindicator", and includes all previous rewards.
$1000 - Master: You'll be able to design a Boss. Your name in the credits will appear under "Master", and includes all previous rewards.
$5000 - Executive Producer: You'll be credited as Executive Producer and includes all previous rewards as well as an extra Protector reward tier (digital, physical, and portrait rewards).
To get Add-Ons:
- Select your desired pledge tier from the right of the campaign page.
- At checkout, simply add the value of your Add-on(s). For the [Physical] add-ons add $20 for International Shipping.
- At the end of the campaign, you will receive a Backer Form to confirm your add-ons and information.
What are Stretch Goals?
Stretch goals are plans for extra content that we can accomplish if the funding goals are met. For example, if we hit $35,000, then we will have the resources needed to port the game to the Nintendo Switch! That's not to say a port or additional features won't happen in the future (don’t worry!), but if we reach the stretch goals, we can promise those things with confidence! Here are some descriptions of the stretch goals:
New Game+: After completing the game once, you'll be able to start a new game while keeping all of your upgrades. However, enemies will be tougher, healing items and other resources will be more scarce, and new challenges and story elements may arise. Playing new game plus is sort of like a whole new game!
Boss Rush Mode: Test your skill by defeating all of the bosses through a brutal gauntlet as fast as possible.
Valkyrie Lily: A new angelic Valkyrie outfit available for Lily. We will create a new skin option for players to use that will include different weapon and spell effects.
Playstation 4 and PS Vita: Forsaken Castle for the Playstation 4 and Vita! With enough support we can develop versions of the game to be played on the PS4 and PS Vita.
Mage Unlocked: Meryl is a magician that Lily will meet inside the castle that helps her with upgrades and items. We will create a game mode that allows you to play as Meryl with new gameplay, abilities, and her own story.
Dark Lily: Play as Lily when she's not so nice, this unlocks a new Dark Knight outfit and includes custom weapon and spell effects.
Nintendo Switch & Xbox One: Forsaken Castle for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox! With enough support we can develop versions of the game to be played on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
Knight Unlocked: Vincent is a knight that Lily will meet inside the castle that is on a quest to save someone. We will create a game mode that allows you to play as Vincent with new gameplay, abilities, and his own story.
Prelude Story: Journey back 80 years and experience the events that took place in the same castle long ago with a new playable character, a new story, new characters, and new bosses.

Risks and challenges
Game development is a lot of work and it takes a combination of disciplines (art, design, and technology) working together to successfully complete a project. As this is our first major game in development, we are making every attempt to mitigate potential issues and already having our minimum viable demo was a critical first step to showing that we are capable of seeing this project successfully to completion.
Our greatest risk is the game taking longer than expected to be completed. We fully intend on completing this game, regardless of the amount of backing we receive.
