Are you ready to enter the tales of the Grimm brothers? The time has come to start writing your own story in this magical world. Dice Upon a Time is a family game with clear and simple rules, yet enough depth for more experienced players.
In Dice upon a Time you play a Grimm character with a unique ability. Your main goal is to collect Adventure Points by completing quests that you get in the Town or from the King. To do so you will need to collect and deliver resources (apple, gold, bread) or a special quest item. To move around in the world of the Grimm Tales represented by the game board functioning as a map, you use a set of 5 special dice.
In your turn you place a die on the map to activate the path you’d like to take. Move your figure, and take advantage of the effect of your die’s special face.
If somebody has been there before you that round, you’ll place your die on top of theirs. But be careful, there can be maximum 3 dice on top of each other, so it’s easy to get blocked.
On your journey you will encounter the well-known characters of the Grimm Tales, who influence your adventures by Story cards and Magic Item cards. Story cards were prepared by Lady Fortune, while Magic Items will wait in your pocket until you use them to save your plans or balk others’.

This game is not language-independent. The Story cards and Magic Item cards have English text. However, the game is playable without these components as well. Omitting them is expressly recommended when playing with small children.
If any country/language reaches 100 backers, we will translate the rulebook into that language and make it available online as downloadable content.
This game is being published in cooperation with the Hungarian company Kékjáték, therefore the complete game is going to be translated into Hungarian. Backers can indicate in the pledge manager if they wish to receive a Hungarian copy instead of the English language original.
A French translation will be available online.
Shipping will be charged after the campaign through PledgeManager.
You can add more copies by simply increasing your pledge. Shipping will be charged only once.
If you want FREE PICKUP in Essen or Budapest, this option will be free of charge, of course.
Risks and challenges
Dice upon a time is our third Kickstarter project, which means we are quite experienced in this field. In early 2017, we made our debut with Hexpanse, and collected 1300 backers altogether with a joint German crowdfunding campaign. Hexpanse arrived to our backers almost within the scheduled timeframe, and the game received predominantly positive feedback. In 2018 we managed to achieve another success with Invisible, after a restart.
Although that campaign ended in June, all backers received the game by the end of September which is quite an achievement for a small-sized publisher.
We are ready to repeat this fast fulfillment.
All graphics and art of Dice Upon a Time are complete, all development and game design is finalized. The rulebook is nearly complete and we are glad to hear any feedback on it. When the campaign ends, all files will be set and sent to the factory in China. We have experience from the previous campaigns with fulfillment companies, such as Happyshops and Gamesquest in Europe, Fulfillrite in the US and SFC in Asia.
With all that said, nothing is ever 100% sure. There might be unpredictable events, such as problems with customs, factory delays, severe weather conditions, zombie tsunami, volcano eruption, etc. We believe in transparency and communication. Should any complication come up that affects the product and fulfillment, we will let you know as soon as possible. We did the same in the course of both of our previous campaigns, and people appreciate our straightforward communication.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
