Designer Leather Front Pocket Wallet
Premium front pocket wallet with detachable money clip, handcrafted using vegetable-tanned, top-grain leather.
Every day is a journey, so why not make your journey First Class? My front pocket, everyday carry wallet delivers a first-class experience with luxurious leather and minimalist design. This wallet is both for the aficionado who requires form as well as function, and for those who simply want a really nice wallet.
- Front pocket wallets are designed for greater comfort and security. The snap system on the money clip of this wallet allows it to detach and thus offers even more flexibility, comfort, and security.
- This wallet is constructed from hand-stitched, top-grain, vegetable-tanned leather from a French tannery company with over 200 years experience in producing luxury leather goods.
- The wallet has three compartments. The outside two are designed to fit up to two cards each, and the middle compartment can carry two to three additional cards and/or backup cash.
- The money clip uses magnets to keep cash, receipts, etc. together.
Features of this wallet include the following.
Flexibility. The included leather money clip is easily attached when you want to carry more cash and detached when you want to leave it at home when there is no need for cash. This can be especially useful when traveling to countries or patronizing businesses that favor cash transactions. The wallet snap also allows for customization; you can attach and detach other accessories, like my leather key chain option, as desired.
Security. You can detach the wallet and money clip to carry each in a different pocket, decreasing the odds of being completely empty handed should you be unfortunate enough to be pick pocketed. Similarly, if robbed you can toss your money clip cash to the ground, while hopefully retaining your main wallet with your id, credit cards, and perhaps extra cash. When putting the wallet and money clip somewhere like a carry-on bag, you can reattach the two to lesson the chance that one or the other gets misplaced in transit.
Comfort. Even when connected together, the wallet/money clip combo is more streamlined than many other front pocket wallets. That said, when wearing skinny jeans, it may feel most comfortable to keep the money clip in one pocket and the main wallet in another.
Premium. I chose to go with top-grain leather for this product, as it is softer and thinner than full-grain leather. It seems that many luxury goods makers have switched from leather to vinyl for at least some of their offerings. For those of us who prefer the durability of leather, this is unfortunate. Of course, not all leather is equal. Leather comes in many grades, with low grades simply stamped and painted to look like higher grades. Have you ever had a “genuine leather” product that is not tanned all the way to the middle start peeling? It is not a pretty or happy sight. So, for the highest durability, always stick with full-grain and top-grain leather options.
Hand-Stitched. This is not a mass-produced item. Hand-stitching is certainly more expensive and fewer items can be produced than by machines. However, hand-stitching delivers higher quality results and thus the lasting enjoyment that we all desire.
Vegetable-Tanned. Vegetable tanning is a traditional, artisanal process that requires one to three months. The tannic acids from barks, branches, leaves, and some fruits from plants produce a memorable aroma and mean that the process is as natural as the leather itself, as opposed to harmful chemicals used in cheaper tanning processes.
As travelers well know, airlines have been imposing more and more restrictions on baggage. For me, this has actually been quite liberating. I started packing lighter and realized I had been burdening myself with way more “stuff” than I ever actually needed. I now bring just one carry-on and a small backpack even on “big” trips, and it feels great!
Since everyday carry “essentials” compete for pocket and bag space, I also self-imposed restrictions on what I carry in my wallet. I pared down to the items that I truly use every day: my best rewards credit card, an ATM card, my driver’s license, my train pass, and cash. Gone are the days of needing to carry a bulky wallet (for a laugh, search YouTube for “exploding wallet”) overflowing with family photos (thanks, smartphones!) and numerous cards that are rarely, if ever, used.
Scaling down the contents of my wallet meant I could scale down the size of my wallet and reclaim pocket space. I tried various wallets but was never completely satisfied with the design and quality. I first tried a front pocket wallet with an attached money clip. The problem was, it was still too bulky, wasn’t super comfortable, and the metal clip soon ripped through the thin, low-grade leather. I moved on to a slim card wallet with a separate money clip. While this was better and a lot more comfortable, I misplaced the money clip soon after depleting the cash. Furthermore, the leather quality of the card wallet was not what I expected, even though it was not that cheap.
Like so many entrepreneurs before me, because I could not find what I wanted, I decided to create it myself. By sourcing from a French tannery company that has been making leather luxury goods for over 200 years, I ensured that the wallet would be handcrafted from top-grain, vegetable-tanned leather for lasting quality. I designed the wallet and money clip to be detachable so as to be suitable for different situations.
Immensely pleased with the results, I think others will appreciate this fine leather good, and other products that I design in the future, thus bringing us all here to this Kickstarter project.
Use of Funds
I greatly appreciate your interest and support for this project. Kickstarter funds will go toward manufacturing, domestic shipping, website design, and other start up costs. Ultimately, this project is the first step in starting a business that offers premium, high-quality, durable, everyday carry items.
Risks and challenges
I already have the manufacturing geared up, but, like with any business, a huge spike in orders could impact the speed of production. As such, delivery timing is the only measurable risk. I will mitigate this risk by having limited backer rewards available, and by giving a shipment date buffer with plans to provide the goods earlier than stated.
This project is solely run by me, so I do not require any additional approvals to move forward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
