Hey all we are in the home stretch and are ready from some stretch goals.
Stretch Goal #1 - Not Unlocked
If we reach $1600 by the end of the Kickstarter, we will build and release by April, a new fleet deck composed for the Ile Soltaire, the flying space whales of our universe:
Dr. Moll will write the special rules for whale and Charlotte has committed to doing the art.
Stretch Goal #2 - Not Unlocked
If we reach $2000 by the end of the period we will build and release by May, a deck for the Technoprey, the evil plasma/hoard creatures in our universe:
Dr. Nic will write the rules and Gavin Revitt will do the art.
Stretch goal #3 - Not unlocked
If we reach $2500 by the end of the period, we will build and release by June, a deck of pirates. We don't have art for the pirates yet. They take over other ships and have special upgrades and mod to be decided by Dr. Nic.
NOTE: We posted the full Syrch deck in Update #8.
So table top war gaming is fun. No better way to get in an uproarious, pretzels and red bull fueled battle than over your favorite mini game. The problem? Mini games are hella expensive, and I do mean hella.
We at the Dryden Experiment have a fully realized, available under creative commons science fiction universe that would be great for mini war gaming but how to get around the cost? The answer came from our frequent collaborator and designer of our RPG "Big Damn Dryden," Owlman Press out of Ballarat, AU. Their answer, "Let's print the ships on playing cards and issues a mini space combat game for the price of a deck of cards."
The awesome in that sentence left us speechless, but not for long because WE HAD TO BUILD IT!
Dryden House Publishing with Owlman Press is pleased to present "Big Damn Space Battles."
Command a fleet of ships from one of the big three corporations in the Dryden Scifi Universe. Will you play noble Lin, sturdy Terra Corp, or underhanded Syrch. No matter what fleet you choose, buckle up. You are in for a fast paced, intuitive game play experience that brings our play testers back for more.
"It was fun once I got the hang of it. Nat fully enjoyed it." -Chelsi Ann, playtester, Junction City, Kansas
Our unique rule system provides three base classes of ships, fighters, space stations, and a variety of terrain types. A simple upgrade system allows you to build the kind of fleet you would like to play. Want to play battle ships? Upgrade a couple of combat platforms and slug it out. Interesting in carrier based battles? Lighten up on the weapons and load out with fighters. The choices are endless. Additionally, cloaking, boarding, captains with special abilities, and explosive self-destruction are all in the cards.
The base deck is 61 cards plus rule cards. The ship cards, (there are 9 per deck) are unique to their corporation but the upgrades, terrain, and captains are universal so that you can combine decks to build exactly the fleet you want.
Fleet building is point based and a 100 point battle (3 - 5 ships per side) resolves in less than an hour. Play is turn based and all rolls are on D6's.
We are in final playtest, have our layouts and rules headed for proofing, and are ready to bring you epic space battles for the cost of a deck of cards.

Risks and challenges
We launched this Kickstarter during the first week of January and then pulled it back down. We were on track to fully fund and on track to go to print in March. However, we ran into a rules change, a formatting change, and discovered that the audio on our video had gotten degraded. Rather than ask funders to take it on trust that we were going to produce the game we said we were, we backed off, regrouped and are now ready to present our full vision.
This is Dryden House's 9th project and our 3rd kickstarter. We've built a really awesome team and can do pretty much anything we set our minds to.
We have all art in hand and are set up to print through RPGNow. We're on top of it, hot, and ready tor run.
The challenges we are facing are what you'd expect to see in a small studio late in development. We had a design meeting two Sunday's before launch that worked out to 8 pm for Owlman in Australia, 9 am for our lead designer in England and 3 am for the owner of Dryden House in Kansas, USA. it's hard work, but its so fun. We'll make it.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
