As fans of lore and beasties, we knew it would only be a matter of time before we created our own monster field guide! Spanning myths, legends, and tales from around the world, this bestiary is a labor of love that follows The Panagakos family.
As direct descendants of Pandora and Epimetheus, the Panagakos’ task of putting monsters back in Pandora’s box is one that spans generations (see below). From hydras to chupacabras, they’ve seen it all. And now you can too can get in on the action with this world building guide!
This book will be 100 pages of content and 6x9 in size, the perfect travel size! Part professional field guide/part running commentary on the wonderfully weird (and often times dangerous) mission of the Panagakos family, inside you can expect to find:
- Detailed statistics for each creature.
- Field drawings from gifted (and less artistically inclined) adventurers
- Photos from the field
- And of course notes from the family! (informational and sarcastic)
With your help we'd love to bring this family field guide to life with lore, notes comparing different creatures and of course amazing art!
Thank you so much!
-Kara, Kelly and Nichole!
Our Version of The Myth
Before mankind was created Titans resided on the earth with the animals. One Titan, Prometheus, loved playing with clay and one day he made a lot of small humans from the wet earth. Zeus was taken with the figures so much so he breathed life into them.
At first, the humans worshipped Zeus. But Prometheus was a mischievous soul and he convinced the humans to play a prank on Zeus. The prank was a success. Yet Zeus’s pride was hurt and in his anger he took fire away from the earth.
Cold and hungry, the humans complained to Prometheus. Feeling responsible, Prometheus snuck up to the sky and stole a piece of the sun. Prometheus’ gift brought fire back to the earth, and the humans rejoiced.
Zeus, however, punished Prometheus harshly. Chaining Prometheus to a big rock, Zeus left him to have his liver eaten every day by a big eagle. Yet Prometheus’ immortality meant he could never die. Each night his liver regrew and each day he was forced to relive his torment as the bird returned.
Prometheus was eventually freed by Herakles but before that, determined to punish his cousin further. Zeus ordered Hephaestus and Athena to create a woman, Pandora, and had all the other gods give her gifts of both blessings and curses. Then, Zeus offered Pandora to Prometheus’ younger brother, Epimetheus.
Young and in love, Epimetheus took Pandora as a bride despite his brother’s warnings. On their wedding day, Zeus gave Pandora a sealed jar as a present. Unable to stop her curiosity, Pandora opened the jar released a swarm of evil spirits that would forever plague and curse mankind. Only Elpis (hope) remained inside, a single blessing to ease humanity’s suffering.
The evil spirits slowly took the forms of monsters and bad energy that caused the human’s to suffer. Pandora, feeling responsible for the misery she unwittingly caused, made a deal with Elpis. She and Epimetheus would sacrifice their long lives and immortality to give Elpis strength to help the humans. Elpis agreed on the condition that she would gift their descendants with the ability to trap the evil spirits back into the jar and she would stay with them until their mission was accomplished.
Thus, the Pangakos family came to be, and to this day they seek to seal Pandora’s box once and for all....

Mini Print Artists

But that may have been a fever dream.
You can find just about everything she does at meredithmcclaren.tumblr.com and https://www.patreon.com/meredithmcclaren Some of it is nsfw. Because she was a fool, and didn't think to set up a separate account. And it's too late now.

Risks and challenges
We are professionals who've worked on industry as well as their own books and deadlines. Our goal is to finish the book by the end of April. The printer we are working will takes two months to ship so we should get them by the end of June. The only delays we should have would be on the printer's side or if there are any issues with shipping but we will keep everyone updated as things progress!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
