Omaha Beach Stress Test
We're happy to announce we will release our fourth map, Omaha, this Monday the 26th at 3pm EST (20:00 GMT/UTC).
At 3pm EST on Monday, we will be conducting a stress test, meaning we'd like to get as many players as we can in a single server so we can collect quality data to help us optimize our server loads.
Being huge fans of the Omaha beach scene in Saving Private Ryan and the opening single player level from MOHAA - we set out to create a similar multiplayer experience.
This meant a few requirements.
First, the Allies had to start on boats, out at sea, non-negotiable. We wanted a little bit of lead in time to help build the tension. Also this helped our second requirement...
We wanted the moment the doors drop to be intense. If the Allies spawn on the beach right away and the Germans spawn inland, the first 20 seconds are spent running up the beach with no gunfire. As we've designed it, when the round starts the Germans have enough time to setup their defenses and prepare for the attack.
Lastly, a D-Day invasion is the definitive Attack/Defend scenario and we wanted the battle to be all about storming the beach and securing the area up top. As a result, our flag capture game mode didn't really work. So we settled on a new detonation style game mode.
The Allied forces will storm the beach and try to disable 5 key objectives with explosives.
Each successful detonation adds time to the game clock. The Germans can defuse explosives after they are planted.
If the Allies successfully destroy all objectives before time runs out, they win, if the Germans run out the clock, they win.
All in, Omaha is meant to be a break from our more competitive minded maps, just utter chaos in an iconic WW2 setting. We've really enjoyed bring this level to life over the past few months and cannot wait to see you in game on Monday!
