We're really excited to announce that Kristian Nairn has joined the cast of Biopunk! You may recognise Kristian from his role as Hodor in HBO's Game of Thrones.
What is Biopunk?
Biopunk is an independent sci-fi film full of action, mystery and unique characters.
Set in a world devastated by a mysterious virus, the human race no longer finds itself the dominant species. Decades of infection have transformed swathes of the population. These new breeds have become known as Altereds. Corralled into ghettos and treated as second-class citizens, a fragile new world has emerged.
Biopunk follows the story of Resha, a street-smart Altered struggling to make a living whilst raising her younger brother Kio. When Kio is kidnapped by the militarized faction of the Altereds, she is forced to venture beyond the city’s limits in a race to rescue him before he can be turned into the ultimate weapon.
Biopunk needs your help to make it a reality.
Feature films this ambitious require a lot of support. That’s why we’re here on Kickstarter - to prove there’s a hungry audience out there who want to see this kind of film.
We want to make a proof of concept short of the opening ten minutes.
This concept short will aim to convince sales agents, distributors and a host of others that Biopunk is achievable. You can help to do that by joining the community and proving there are people out there who want to see original films like this made.
A BRAVE NEW WORLD
"One of the things I want to do with Biopunk is create a world, that at its core, feels tangible and one that we can relate to. Although set in the future Biopunk is very much a reflection on some of the important issues facing our modern world, issues I feel that affect all of us at some basic level. The film incorporates themes of isolationism, racism, and extreme nationalism.
Though our film focuses on just a few characters caught up in a political struggle beyond their control, the Biopunk universe extends much further than that. We're creating a world that could easily be ours in forty years time.
To capture the raw intensity of our characters being swept along on their journey we'll be shooting in a documentary style, handheld, close to our characters and right in the middle of the action.
We plan on doing as much of the special effects in camera as possible and only accentuating in post where needs be. Warm colours such as brown and gold will create the pallet of a dystopian and dying society.
Biopunk is a film I've wanted to make and a story I've wanted to tell for a long time. And I hope with your help, we'll be able to make this film a reality." Liam
So who are we?
We're the creative team behind the post-apocalyptic comedy The Fitzroy.
Here's the trailer!
The Fitzroy was successfully funded right here on Kickstarter. Check out the campaign page here!
Since then we've been busily working on completing the film and now that it's done we're working hard on releasing it to the world.
The Fitzroy title sequence won both the Audience Award and Special Jury Recognition Award at the amazing SXSW film festival in Austin Texas! Liam's home town!

Biopunk will be the directorial feature debut of Liam Garvo.
Liam is no stranger to science fiction, having directed a number of sci-fi shorts and editing The Fitzroy.
"I've been a massive fan of sci-fi for as far back as I can remember. I grew up watching classics like The Fly, Aliens, The Thing, The Abyss, Tron, Brazil and a host of other films that I was probably too young to be watching as a kid! And when I couldn't watch what I wanted, well because Netflix hadn't been invented(!), I read everything I could get my hands on by Bradbury, Vonnegut, Asimov and a string of comics. Another thing I think has influenced me as a filmmaker and something that is a big reference point for the world of Biopunk were endless hours of being absorbed in the Shadowrun universe during the school holidays." Liam
It will be shot by Ciro Candia who has been the Director of Photography on all of Liam’s projects.
The production design will be done by long term and amazing collaborator, Natalie O’Connor, who has helped create the worlds in all of Liam’s previous work and has the exciting task of building this new and unique dystopian world for Biopunk.

What is my money going to actually be used for?
Everything raised will go towards helping create the opening sequence from the final screenplay.
The main chunk of the budget will be spent on locations, production design, costume and props. We want to put as much of the money on screen as possible. We are going for a bold, unique vision. One that will emerge the viewer in a dangerous and exciting world.
The concept short for the opening sequence will be made available immediately to all backers as soon as it's finished and before releasing it to the world.
We want to offer something exciting and uniquely exclusive to our supporters that you can only get during this Kickstarter campaign as early backers of the project. Here are some of the cool things you can get with more to come throughout the campaign!

Unique Photos by Ciro and Liam
As if the Director and Director of Photography didn’t have enough to do already, they have promised to shoot 27 behind the scenes stills with a disposable camera! These images will be a completely unique behind the scenes look at the making of the film through both the director and director of photography’s eyes. We’ll get the film developed and then post you the complete set!
Appear in the Film
Ever wanted to have your face appear on the big screen? Now you can!
In the film there will be a ‘wall of the missing’. This will show all those missing in our dystopian London, children, mums, dads…even pets!
Anyone backing at £70 or higher will automatically recieve the Appear in the Film reward!
Here's a rough concept of how your photo will appear on the the wall of the missing.
Everyone likes a puzzle right? We thought so :)
Join the film's protagonists, Resha and Edwin, as they hunt for clues as to who is behind the kidnapping of Resha's brother Kio.
Crack the code and feature in the concept short and feature film!!
To get you started a clue will be emailed to you when backing at any level. Backing not required to have a go at the puzzle. Good luck!
And the feature film?
We think it’s only fair, as early supporters of the project, that you should also get the feature film that you have helped make happen!
So everyone who supports at the £14 reward and up, will also receive a digital copy of the feature film if all goes to plan. We of course can’t give timings at this stage as to when that will happen but we will keep you updated as everything develops.
Why Kickstarter you ask?
Because without your support this project simply couldn't happen. Without people like you believing in our idea and taking a chance on something truly ambitious we won't be able to bring this film to life.
We'd also really like to take you on a journey with us again on a new and exciting project. We are die hard Kickstarter fans and love sharing in the experience of other story tellers, artists, crafters, techies, gamers, musicians, and the countless other weird, wacky and wonderful projects that make up this amazing online community. And we hope to make this another great experience for all our supporters to get engaged with.

Risks and challenges
Making a film of this scale is a huge undertaking and investors like sure bets. We've already proven what we can do by raising only a fraction of what it will cost to make Biopunk when we made The Fitzroy. This time requires a little bit more convincing so that's why we're asking you to help us convince those investors by allowing us to create this concept video.
Obviously this isn't a guaranteed route to finance and the final film might not get made. However, we really believe in the project and think it has huge potential so we'll be doing everything we can to get it off the ground.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
