Most parents know this problem all too well: As soon as the kids start crawling and playing on the floor, the wear of their trousers increases. This in turn brings the constant need of buying new pants, which is both time consuming and bad for the environment.
The Dreifeder kids jeans are made of a durable Cordura® denim with temperature- and humidity-regulating Coolmax® All Season fibers and is indistinguishable from a normal pair of jeans whether in terms of look or feel. These sustainable jeans made in Portugal with organic cotton are the ideal pants for all children between 8 months and 12 years.
The Cordura® fibers woven into the fabric make the jeans almost indestructible. As a result, they are up to ten times more durable than conventional regular jeans according to independent tests, but they are nevertheless super comfortable to wear.
Thanks to the Coolmax® All Season technology, the fabric is temperature- and humidity-regulating. The fabric provides thermal protection in cold weather as well as cooling for the warmer months.
Elastane fibers make the fabric stretchy and thus allow for complete freedom of movement. Whether it's for climbing, playing football or just sitting around relaxing. The jeans keep up with every movement and always return to their original shape.
By means of an elastic band and buttons on the waistband, the pants can be adapted to the child's size requirement. This extends the wear time of the jeans, as it grows with the little ones.
The Dreifeder jeans look like normal pants and can be worn on any occasion. Whether it's to school, at parties or for a play date. Nobody will notice a difference.
When choosing the material, we decided to use certified organic cotton for the cotton content of the pants. Organic cotton is grown environmentally friendly and strictly without the use of pesticides and fertilizers, which have harmful effects on the marine environment.
The jeans can be cleaned in the washing machine just the same and do not differ from any other jeans in terms of care.
All our kids jeans are made under fair and sustainable conditions in Portugal. We are in close contact with the manufacturer and pay regular visits to the site to ensure a positive and sustainable work environment. The jeans are stored and dispatched directly from Portugal in order to minimise the effects of delivery miles on the environment.
Cordura® fabric is known for its resilience and must meet very high standards in order to be certified as such. We've also had the used materials tested by independent laboratories to ensure that they meet the specifications of the Dreifeder jeans. Abrasion resistance, which specifies the durability of the fabric, is tested by means of the Martindale Method and is indicated in rotations. A normal pair of jeans reaches an average number of around 50,000 rotations before the fabric has a defect.
We have tested the material used for the Dreifeder jeans up to 600,000 rotations, which is more than 10 times higher! But even at this value, it shows no signs of defect.
Since the Dreifeder jeans can be worn and passed on many times, fewer pants need to be bought in the same period. Not only does this save time, but it also protects the environment sustainably:
On average, to produce one pair of regular jeans requires 8,000 liters of water, 15 kg of CO2, several square meters of land and 3-4 kg of chemicals. On average Dreifeder jeans will last approximately four times longer than regular jeans, meaning that over its life span, Dreifeder jeans will use 25% of the materials than purchasing regular jeans over the same period. Combine this with the cost and time spent shopping for additional jeans, and the Dreifeder are not only sustainable but also cost effective.
The name Dreifeder is inspired by a German fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm called "Die drei Federn", meaning the three feathers. In this fairy tale, a king seeks a suitable successor amongst his three sons, instructing them to bring him the most beautiful carpet. In order to do so, he throws three feathers into the air, showing his sons the directions to look for. The youngest brother, an inconspicuous and underrated character finds a trapdoor at the exact place, where his feather has fallen, and a toad under it, that conjures up for him the most beautiful carpet.
The Dreifeder jeans are not made with the help of a toad but would certainly have convinced the king. For this reason, one feather in the logo is also coloured differently.
As a product manager for an international motorcycle clothing company, I had a lot to do with abrasion-resistant and durable materials, which ultimately led to the idea of the kids jeans: When I was playing with my nephew on the floor, I noticed how much he moved while playing and that his pants were almost worn through at his knees. It turned out that this is a big problem apparently and to this day, not many similar and especially no sustainable pants exist.
This was the cornerstone for Dreifeder and I am grateful, that, these days, I have the opportunity to develop the newest pants with my now two nieces and one nephew.
We believe that the Dreifeder kids jeans are a game changer and not only making the life of your children easier, but also your own and at the same time helping the environment.
If you like the idea as much as we do, help us to spread the word! Email, Facebook, Twitter - whatever you prefer! Talk to everyone who might be interested and put us in contact with journalists and bloggers if you know anyone, BUT most important, talk to your friends and family...
