Noctem is set in Dry Creek. A little town in Alaska, with beautiful nature and mostly foggy, a place that strange things happen daily. There are whispers about the Alaskan Triangle and all the theories behind it, but no one is willing to speak about it. People disappear and most of them remain lost. Some say they died, some say they left... Others are still searching for them, to this day. The question is, are they still there?
Amelia Hudson used to live in Dry Creek with her family, right before she moved to England to study writing. She was away for about 7 years, and in that time she lost both of her parents. Her mother died, in a car accident and 3 years later, her father died mysteriously inside their house. All she has left is her twin sister, Sophie. When Amelia left, Sophie didn't follow her. Her father only sent Amelia away to study, but he kept Sophie in Dry Creek. She never talked or saw her sister ever again after she left. But Sophie is missing. No one knows what happened and even if they did, they would never dare to speak of it. Do you dare to unveil the mystery?

Noctem is a psychological horror game with an element of some real life experiences. What we are trying to achieve is to give you the experience outside of what you can see in your screen and for that reason we invest mostly in an atmosphere and the ambience.
Will you be able to defend yourself? No... Will you be able to die? Yes... But not because something is going to kill you. Nothing is hunting you. But something is messing with your head, your thoughts, your reality. The entity that is stalking you is not driven by grief or rage but something beyond any human understanding. You feel alone, and you are... As you progress through the story you will discover aspects of yourself that you never knew, cause no one told you. Can you handle reality?
The paintings in the game are all custom made, in order to create a creepy and terrifying environment. Paintings are just paint and brushes combined to create portraits which seems alive but they are not. Or are they?
We love playing horror games, all horror games. So why not try making one? The inspiration of Noctem origins from both old school horror games, such as Amnesia, Penumbra, and newest horror games such as SOMA, Outlast and PT. But we believe that every game differs from one another, offering a unique element of surprise and a little bit of twist in the end.
In Noctem we mainly focus on the atmosphere and the ambience. Background noises, ambient sounds, terrifying whispers and voices help create a horror environment for you to experience.
We strictly believe that music plays a critical role in movies and video games. For that reason we are trying to create memorable and meaningful soundtracks that create feelings from sadness and nostalgia to horror and madness.
All sounds and music are custom made especially for the game.
With the help of a professional voice actress we are trying to present to you the story through the eyes of the character.
We are a group of friends who love playing games and mostly we love making games. This Kickstarter is not to get the game made, but only to help us and make it better.
If we hit our funding goal of 15.000 €, we will hire professional artists who will help us improve the game in every single aspect. Right now the game looks fine, but we know that we can make it shine and stand out from environmental design to animations and models. This means a much more scarier and immersive game!
Every one of us have a job and we work on Noctem on our free time the past 5 months. But this funding will also allow some of us to work as a full-time job on this game and be able to make it even better and much more polished, with better environment, objectives and animations. We will also be able to release the game faster than the estimated time.
Also Kickstarter offers us a better connection with you. It gives our fans the ability to be part of the game through the rewards and the campaign itself. We will understand why you expect from us, what would you like to see and you will help us to make our first attemp, of creating a game, shine.
Whether we get funded or not, Noctem will be released since no one of us will abandon this game. This is our personal goal.
It would be amazing if we could hit some stretch goals. Right now the game is in English, but we would love to translate it into additional languages. Also we would be able to bring Noctem to Playstation, Xbox and VR.
As a baker for specific rewards, you will be able to submit images, concepts, music, ambient sounds and other creative work, for us to considerate and include in the game. In order to use your work it is very important for you to have all the ownership rights as we will not use work that is illegal, contains sexual content or is offensive. Any submitted work that we find offensive in any way, we reserve the right to reject it and to not include it in Noctem.
Any submitted work (art, music, sound, concept etc.) that we find offensive and is rejected, will not entitle you to a return of your pledged amount. If anything like this happens however, we will surely find a way to contact you and work with you in order to alternate your work, create a most suitable creative and be able to have it included in Noctem.
Risks and challenges
We started developing Noctem as it is our dream to create games. But we are new to the game development industry and at the beginning we weren’t familiar with the challenges we were going to face. There was a variety of obstacles and problems we had to overcome on a technical and designing level, but we knew we could do this project. However the most challenging and difficult part that no one takes under consideration is the human factor. The anxiety and pressure sometimes was overwhelming, but as a team, we started together and we stayed together till this day.
Creating a game is a challenge and a risk by itself, it is not easy or stable. But we, the Noctem team, apart from game developers, we are also gamers and gamers love challenges. We knew from the beginning that the whole project is a risk. We know that Kickstarter is a risk, but we also know that in order to make our dream a reality, we have to be risky. So for that reason we put ourselves out there, hoping you will take the risk along with us.
Creating a game, is not easy. But we are not only trying to create another horror game, we are trying to create feelings and this is the most challenging part. Our goal is to complete Noctem and with your help, it will be easier to do so. But even if we don’t achieve Kickstarter successfully, the project will be out there, no matter what. We are a new team, full of imagination and will, and we are here to stay.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
