Requiem Vampire Knight (Canceled)
A game of strategy and combat based on the comic from Pat Mills and Olivier Ledroit.
Kickstarter upgrade (day #2): Two Heroes were already added to all our packs as a reward to our backers! We welcome Lady Venus and Otto von Todt!
Kickstarter update (day #7): Purgatory pledges got a huge upgrade adding all 6 factions without any requirement. Purgatory rewards now contain:
- "the artist Olivier Ledroit did all the artworks of the game" - Tech Art Geek
- "A game of infernal proportions!" - Cliqist
- "Evil characters, revisited 2nd World War, parallel world, vampires, fights... and a love story. Yes, there definitely were enough materials here for a board game!" - Ludovox
In the alternate universe of Resurrection you'll find a lot of crazy stuffs: sadistic vampire knights, buxom pirate ghouls, decaying zombie soldiers, remote-controlled werewolves, armored centaur-riders, really mad scientists, avaricious dragons, demonologist sorcerers, various bad divinities or genetic monsters and a lot of sexy (willing, sometimes) victims...
If you don't know the comics by Pat Mills and illustrated by Olivier Ledroit, I would strongly advise you that you rush to your favorite comic book shop to get them all.
If you know Requiem Vampire Knight: this is a game that should delight your eyes.
This original comics is a love story (what else) in a hellish universe where really bad guys have a ball with sex, violence and blood...
Requiem Vampire Knight – the Game is divided into three stand alone boxes. We call them Packs.
Each Pack contains the components for two players and features two new factions:
You can play four players games if you own two Packs (two players teams).
Obviously, if you own several Packs you can play any faction against any other.
Vampires are powerful but after a few turns they will starve and lose strength. Ghouls seem weak, but are resistant and their strength will increase. Lemures have less effects, but their werewolves are great fighters. The Hellfire Club has lots of magic to use, as much as Archeologists have science powers to unleash. Distopians are lizards, so they have dragons... and a dragon... well a dragon is always useful.
There will also be Expansion boxes to improve these six factions and Special Expansion boxes, which contain special characters, new rules and expand the universe.
Pick one faction and choose ten development cards with your favorite heroes. Choose your path: total annihilation or territory conquest!
With some factions one way may be harder than the other.
Our campaign aim is to unlock several stretchgoals, any box of the game step by step. First there will be the three basic Packs ; next will come one Expansion per Pack; then a second wave of three Expansions; the last steps will be the three final Special Expansions separatly.
We will start with the first three packs, then move on and try to fund one expansion, then a second, and so on.
Whatever pledge you choose, you may want a various number of any element we will unlock. See the "You may Add" section below and add to your pledge the cost of the elements you prefer.
A pledge manager will be available after the campaign's end. You will tell us which element you choose for the amount you pledged. You may also add new ones, adding their costs to your pledge.
Besides the Ignition pledge, there are four kinds of pledges: à-la-carte, Purgatory, Hell and Art-Lover.
“à la carte” : $40
You'll get one of the three basic Packs. You may add any element unlocked during the campaign (boxes or add-ons).
Purgatory Earlybirds pledges: $110 - $115 - $120 and more; each limited to 222 backers.
Purgatory rewards have seen a huge upgrade, announced here. You now get a Purgatory box with all 6 factions!
With this pledge you'll also get all stretchgoals (Expansions and Special Expansions). If you want to pick Kickstarter Exclusive add-ons, you'll have to add their cost to your pledge. See the "You may Add" section below for details.
That's right, all factions are now in, meaning you get the materials of all three packs and their heroes in addition to all stretch goals.
Hell pledge: to be added.
This will be the all-in pledge: you'll get one of each stretchgoals and one of each Kickstarter exclusive add-ons.
Art-Lovers pledges: more to be added; $3000 for a Pack or special expansion cover art. $2000 for an expansion cover art.
Olivier Ledroit, the comic’s artist, works as a traditional artist using paints and brushes. We’ll commission from him a cover art piece for each box. This original artwork will be yours, in addition to any element produced (like in Hell pledge). It will be at least twice the size of the box top and will be signed by the artist and each box will also be signed by the two game designers.
There will be only one Art-lover package for each funded box.
Kickstarter exclusives add-ons are high quality playable elements. We will make these available after we reach the third stretchgoal.
There will be :
- Outer-boxes in which you will store your various boxes.
- The playmat is 19.7 square inches (50 cm) printed with an Olivier Ledroit's picture. You can set a board for 2 players.
- Chess-like busts metal collectibles which can be used with the corresponding box, as you would do with your plastic minis.
With pawns moving on a check-board to take strategic locations, Requiem may seem a chess-like game.
But it features a modular board, randomly set before each game with squares being flipped in the course of the game when their resources are tapped, three actions to perform on your turns, cards to play to increase your characters' power and new master pieces coming in during the game.
During your turn, use your three actions in the order you choose: moving your characters, fighting and taping lands to activate new cards. These cards provide bonuses that will improve your characters' strength or movement.
The board will change during the game, modifying the bonuses of your cards, so you'll have to decide each action carefully.
There are two ways to win the game. Either you move one of your characters onto an opponent's capital; or you have all the opponent's characters destroyed.
Each game lasts about 30 minutes and is new and different every time you play. The only thing left to chance is the random board.
Each pack will contain enough material for two players :
- Rules of the game
- 40 territory cards
- 22 development cards (11 per player) *
- 10 plastic soldier miniatures (5 per player) *
- 2 hero miniatures (1 per player)
- 4 Capital coins (2 per player) *
* these elements may be increased or improved depending on the upgrades unlocked.
You'll find bellow the initiation game footage registered during Cannes, the largest game convention in France. There is some french accent in that one, so if you would like you may try the "full english subtitle" version to better understand the nice mechanics of the game.
At first, the game will be produced in english.
You may download English rules for pack 1 here (pdf file - french game designer's translation).
If you like print'n'play, then please download a print'n'play there (.rar).
As mentioned here we are ready to produce translated materials for french, spanish, german, dutch and italian languages that will nicely replace you original english cards and rules and make you able to play in your native tongue.
Rule and card translations are always something native players are better at; if you would like to suggest any translation so that they could be available sooner, please feel free to address us with a MP!
(as of now, still looking for: spanish, german and italian gamers!)
Vampires are certainly the strongest creatures living on Resurrection.
They were really, really bad guys on earth. They don't care about anyone but themselves except when it is time to feed with the blood of the living, or to have fun torturing their favorite victim.
Their leader is Count Dracula, who was already a Vampire on earth. He and the ones he chooses are immortal, that is to say they do not rejuvenate like others.Living in Necropolis, Vampires need black opium to forget their evil actions on earth, without it they would go mad and lose control.
Requiem, the character at the heart of the comic is about, is a Vampire.
Otto von Todt is one of his familiars ("friend" has no meaning on Resurrection).
Requiem's allegiance is not really clear since his previous incarnation is Thurim, who once betrayed Dracula. Even worse, he is still in love with Rebecca - a Lemure; a deadly sin on Resurection.
Ghouls are selfish, if you are among them, you better watch your back.
They also feel that their karma is not fair since they were good on earth. Or at least they think so. In fact they did terrible things, pretending it was for a greater good. The difference is minimal, isn't it?
The Guild is an amalgam of various pirate gangs whose purpose is to get rich or richer. They have a Code: but you know what they say about the Code... it's a guideline, rather than a strict set of rules...
Mitra (reincarnation of John Edgar Hoover) sits on the throne and has been ruling the guild for a long time now. She can read your thoughts, so you better be careful.
Venus is one of the ship Captains. She was once the ruler of the eponym planet, where women killed billions of men, since cloning could already help them procreate...
This is a very restricted club.
To get involved you must be a demonologist, worshipper of the limbos god Aiwass and most of all you must have immeasurable hatred for Dracula.
Their grand Priest, Black Sabbat von Dracula (previously Aleister Crowley) is the head chief of the Metropolis Police. He carefully moves his pawns and tries to have several weapons against his opponents.
He even bets on the return of Thurim, whose power is only comparable to Dracula's strength. But Thurim is trapped in the tortured mind of Requiem.
Here are the good people!
In fact in this world of violence and evil, Lemures are not at the right place. Victims on earth, they are bound to their torturer and unless they can kill him or her on Resurrection they will always live the same cycle. This is a bad karma.
Rebecca, the lover of Requiem, was the victim of Otto... and wants to leave Resurrection... but she still loves Requiem... but she wants to leave... but ...
It would be difficult for Lemures if they did not have the Werewolves on their side. In fact Werewolves do not even have a word to say since they are actually remote-controlled. To become a werewolf you must have been an illuminated religious, doing evil things in the name of God, like Torquemada.
Mad Scientists... all of them !
If these guys had the choice - finding a cure for every disease in the world or creating a new weapon more powerful than any other – they would choose the second option, which is certainly more stimulating!
They live in surviving-tanks that prevent them from rejuvenating.
Dragons are greedy. On Resurrection... dragons are greedier!
They hand over the Papal-holy-water-Acqueduct and so control the entire production of deadly weapons against vampires.
But their credo is “Too much is not enough”. So they could sell anything as long as you give gold in return.
Ruhtra is the ruler of Lonava, their big city. He is the Greatest Dragon who ever lived. But he keeps sleeping so that his mind can control Great-britain politics and become richer.
Until something needs him to wake up, Perfidia, his queen, stands on the throne of Distopia.
KiniGame is a small game publisher from France. Kinigame has already published three party games: Au Tableau, I Will Survive and WuXing, and supported the Requiem project until Dreamship Interactive stepped in to carry it over to the world... and to this Kickstarter!
Requiem Vampire Knight is Kinigame's most ambitious project to date: a strategy game with more content than our previous achievements. The original author is Youri Faja, assisted by Antoine Riot for development.
Dreamship Interactive is an American game studio based in Portland, Maine, with passionate artists, indie game programmers and a boardgame publisher at its core.
Since we have experience in the business of boardgaming, we’ve already chosen a number of potential suppliers.
Last but not least, the current 3D models are made by Baptiste Couvert.
It's simple: at KiniGame we have (many) ideas but not quite as much money!
First we found Dreamship Interactive to carry the project to the world, they just could not resist the universe of the comics and of the game!
Then rather than knocking on our bank manager’s door (he is, incidentally, a very nice man), we’ve decided to ask for your support instead.
We (KiniGame) held a funding campaign for this game two years ago. Poorly-prepared and unrealistic, it didn’t allow us to raise the funds required.
We’ve now had two more years of preparation and hindsight, and we’re back with a more complete and comprehensive project.
All of our pledge levels include shipping costs to the United States, Canada and European Union.
For delivery anywhere else in the world there are few shipping costs depending of the pledge. Note that if you want add-ons more shipping costs may be added during the pledge manager (not much, but it's beter I say it now).
Art Lover pledges include worldwide shipping!
The game is already balanced for Pack 1, 2 and 3 and their Expansions. So all we have left is to “tweak” the special expansions. This should take us a few months. During that time, we’ll of course get the artwork and 3D models done for each missing character.
As the game is ready for production and only waits to get funded, we are confident that the project may be completed in eight months after the end of the campaign. So you should receive your games in early 2016 !
Risks and challenges
There could be some delays inherent to game production, such as:
Production delays, Shipping delays, Customs delays.
We will keep you informed of how production goes in the updates.
That being said, once funded, apart from this possible delays, it will require a Zombie Apocalypse to keep us from producing this game!
