I have always been fascinated with the artwork surrounding Dia de los Muertos or otherwise known as the Day of the Dead. The intricately crafted designs on the painted sugar skulls would always grab my attention every time I saw one. This inspired me to make a piece of artwork that embodies the sugar skull with the beauty of the design placed on a coin. I am coming to Kickstarter to see if others find the artwork of sugar skulls as beautiful as I do and would want to be a part of turning my artwork from a illustrated design to a professionally made coin that you can have in the palm of your hands. My first design called "Muertos" is a simple, yet elegant golden brass coin with a black enamel background. Three other color schemes were made, but to make those designs we would need to reach stretch goals listed below.
- Aztec Sun (Unlocked at $5,000)
- Dancing Skeletons / Calaveras (Unlocked at $7,500)
These coins are made from machinable brass by a high quality manufacturer. They are 2 inches in diameter so that all the intricate details can be seen on the coins. I made 100 of the "Muertos" coins so far, but they were quite expensive. If this Kickstarter campaign is successful then that will lower the cost to produce the coins at a reasonable amount. if we reach the stretch goals then we will have the capability to manufacturer the different color schemes shown below and hopefully even some suggestions from the community. I hope you find this project interesting and back us. Whether you back us or not, please share our project on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get the news out there about this project, we would greatly appreciate it! Below is our gallery of the first coins made.
The following pictures are the designs for the "Muertos" coin and the potential stretch goal designs.
There are currently 4 different Tails side designs that backers are voting on. They are listed below.
Below is what the faux antique finish will come out as (The design will be different, this is just to show the finish of the faux antique coin)
If you have suggestions for other color patterns that you would be interested in for stretch goals or other ideas in general about rewards you would like to see for this project, send us a message and we'll get back to you right away!
If you would shared this link with friends or on social media, It would be greatly appriciated!

Risks and challenges
We have already manufactured a few of these stunning coins, but to lower the cost to make these intricate pieces of art with high quality materials and resolution, we came to Kickstarter to see if the community finds these coins as enjoyable as we do.
We know that some Kickstarter campaigns can be risky and disconnected from the community, but we want to be open and transparent with our backers. If we complete our campaign then we'll have bi-weekly updates along the way so backers aren't wondering what the progress is on the project. Also we have selected our deadline to be in October so that we have two weeks more than expected in case any problems were to arise after completing our campaign. We would prefer to get the rewards to our backer earlier than later, but just to be safe we made the deadline in October. This is to make sure that we complete the campaign on time and have all rewards sent out before Dia de los Muertos this year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
