The vision for the Graywalkers saga has underlying foundations that will guide it through its development from beginning to end:
Community Interaction – One of the reasons for us being here on Kickstarter is to build a community behind this game. We want them to be a part of the development of this game as much as is reasonably possible.
In addition to the core features, there are several features which may make the game stand out
There will be a special rewards structure for crowd content which we will reveal more after the campaign is successful.
The 36 Hidden Ones are humans throughout history who have always risen up to be exceptional in their own way, deemed by Fate to have the power to save the whole human race whenever the need comes. They came to be known as Graywalkers, and you are to be the greatest of them.
The previous Graywalkers were gone. The apocalypse came to pass and the whole human race was on the brink of extinction. It is up to you now to forge a new generation of Graywalkers and turn the tides of the war against the evil that has taken root in the world.
There are many dangers and enemies on Purgatory that you may encounter such as Demons, Devils, Rogue Angels, Rabid Werewolves, Feral Vampires, Zombies, Gangers, Mobsters, Cultists, Bandits, Mercenaries, Monsters and more.
Purgatory was forged during the cataclysmic event called the Rupture. It merged parts of Heaven and Hell with our world. The result is, the locations where these parts appeared mystically displaced what was there before to different corners of the world. Many of these displaced lands were “caught” by the area known as the Bermuda Triangle and this new land mass was formed.
20 Years later, Purgatory and its people have survived and thrived. They have been protected from most of what happened to the rest of the world and were hidden by the same energies that protected the Triangle the way it always has. Unfortunately, Purgatory has finally been discovered and denizens of Hell are slowly moving into it.
The status quo on Purgatory is slowly changing and you will now decide the course of what will happen for its future. This place is where your adventures and legend begins.
The world of Graywalkers is a bleak and dark place. The majority of the world is either a total wasteland, ruins, or under the control of some supernatural entity or group such as demons, vampires, zombies, ghosts, and others. Most it is dotted by many locations where Heaven or Hell had merged with specific locations on earth. The world’s population has been reduced to about 1%, and many of those remain slaves or prisoners in various parts of the world. Only Purgatory remains a free and relatively habitable area compared to the rest of the world.
Though there are many locations on Purgatory to visit and discover, there are several key locations that every neophyte Graywalker should know.
Pure humans are the dominant race on Purgatory. However due to the large amount of supernatural energies and the existence of different supernatural races interacting with humans, several human hybrid sub-races have evolved:
Though DLD has already invested in the development of this game, the funds will help the game accelerate the process by a lot. The breakdown is: Team Members (45%), More Hardware & Software Licenses (25%), Improve Audio (5%), Quality Assurance and Testing (5%), Rewards (10%), Kickstarter & Amazon Share (10%)
We have available add-ons which you can customize your existing pledge reward level with. Add-ons however require a base pledge of $20.
KICKING IT FORWARD
In the game development industry, delays are common and this is normally due to work being underestimated or of some unforeseen challenge arising. This is even more so with Kickstarter Games, wherein many have been late in producing their products on time.
To minimize this risk, we have set a realistic deadline that will allow us to ensure that we will have enough time to deliver what we promised you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We've heard of the horror stories with DRM-filled games and we definitely don't want that kind of experience in our game. We will be offering a DRM free version of the game but we are not yet sure of all the details involved. Suffice to say, we will be creating versions specific to the platform that we will be distributing it on. If that platform will support DRM free, then it will be. So sites like GOG will have totally DRM free version, while a possible Steam version would have the needed requirements to fit their platform.
Crowd Content is an initiative that we have to get us more involved with the community even closer. We will launch this after our campaign. The initiative will allow people to share their content such as 3d models, music, sound, special effects, 2d art, animation, etc to the game. Guidelines for each type of content will be given and requested for. The content will be reviewed and if we decide to use it, the content provider will get equivalent rewards. As he continues to provide content, he will receive higher rewards. In addition, the person will also be properly credited for his work on the project. This program would be very useful to those who needs to get actual work experience into their resumes if they want to break into the game development industry. This is our way of helping those who need an opportunity to take a step into the industry.
We hope to work this out through the Unity Asset Store and through our own site that will manage this program.
That is a very good question. There are several factors that made us decide to put our target at $100,000:
1. Most of our development happens in Manila. The cost for top developers are roughly 1/10th to 1/4th for the same quality of their international counterparts. These developers have worked on different games including some of the top triple A games so you get a lot of bang for your buck
2. We're developing on Unity. This allows us several advantages that can cut costs such as:
a) We've already pre-built many different frameworks that can be used
b) There are many other frameworks and assets available in the Asset store that can cut cost and development time
3. We are currently already partially funding the game. The funds will assist us greatly but we are not 100% dependent on it.
4. Crowd Content Intiative - this is one of our ideas we want to push. This will not only cut down our costs by so much, it will also allow us to do something good for the game development community especially those who want to break into the industry. This initiative will allow other people to donate content and be recognized and rewarded for it. The content that we had in mind to be donated were 3d models, animations, 2d art, music, sound effects, particle system, and others. There are so many talented people out there who just can't break into the industry because of many different factors. We're hoping this becomes an opportunity for them to help us and us to help them.
5. Many of the development team aren't being paid much. As we mentioned, payment is partially funded by the company, and the funds coming in will allow us to take less projects and have key people work on the project..this is a labor of love wherein many of us are sacrificing to get this dream project done. The money is to pay the people we need to support the core team who aren't doing this as a labor of love.
That's ok! You can still help us by spreading word about the game. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, forums you hang out in, or even by simple word of mouth!
If you use Twitter, use the hashtag #KickstartGraywalkers and use our official short URL: http://kck.st/1eJmrQs
WARNING! Please take note that mass sending of tweets about the game to other Twitter users that aren't your followers is considered spamming and we could get suspended for that.
