EEW Mini Parts Update

Since my last update I've been waiting for parts to arrive from my different suppliers around the world.  All the parts from US suppliers and most of the other parts have arrived.  There have been some minor delays as I expected, but nothing out of normal for small scale manufacturing like this.

There is only one part that I'm still waiting for before I can start assembly.  The custom circuit boards that I designed and ordered from China.  These last parts have shipped, and I have a tracking number.  As long as there are no import issues I should be able to start assembly by the end of this month.  That's right on track for my original schedule.  So, things are still looking good!

For the parts that have arrived I have already sorted them into batches for my local assemblers.  I plan to give each assembler the parts to make 500 EEW Minis.  I have ordered the parts to make 2000 Minis so that means I have 4 of these batches.  Below is a photo of me weighing screws.  The reason I'm weighing them is because that's how I count them.  I have an accurate scale and I weigh the plastic bag and zero out the scale.  Then I put 10 screws on the scale and with this type of scale you can tell it the current weight is for 10 parts.  Then it figures out how much each one weights so it can count them as you put more on it.  Then I can just put handfuls of screws into bags and the scale just tells me how many screws I have.  This is much faster than trying count the screws when breaking 8000 screws in a big bag into 4 smaller bags with 2000 screws each.

Scale counts 1703 small screws

Once I get the final parts in, I'll assemble a small match myself.  Then I'll hand off the bulk of the assembly to my two local assemblers.  While that's happening, I'll figure out packaging details and make sure there are good instructions for using the EEW Mini when it arrives to the first backers.  Things are getting very exciting around here!

Thanks for the continuing updates. Interesting to see how you delegate assemblies and how you do certain activities like counting those thousands of screws to save time, energy, and frustration.
