Dex Available On Steam Early Access + New Trailer!

Hey there, friends and backers!

We told you earlier that big things would be coming right before Gamescom. First and foremost:

Dex is now available on Steam Early Access!

Everyone can now buy the current version of the game! You are welcome to do so now directly on Steam or later via Humble Widget on our website (coming soon)!

What does this mean for you, our valued backers?

  • We’d totally appreciate any kind of supporttweets, Facebook shares, letting your friends know, writing on forums related to videogames/cyberpunk/RPGs, etc.), tagging walls in your city with Dex graffiti (well, this might be too much, but hey) – anything that can help us raise awareness!
  • You will be able to recover your Steam key. We’ll be sending links for Steam key recovery later this week. If you want the game on Steam, you can recover it and have it up permanently till the final release! Keep in mind that, unless you purchased specific add-ons to receive multiple keys, you are eligible to receive only 1 digital key for Dex. If you choose Steam, you will not be able to receive the OUYA or Wii U key. In other words, if you bought, for example, the Deluxe Digital Edition for £15 and you want to play Dex on your Wii U, do not recover the Steam key. Sounds a bit complicated, but it’s simple: 1 backer = 1 key of your choice. (Note: Early Access on OUYA coming soon!)

Dex Early Access For All Backers Who Purchased The Game

We’ve decided that from the Steam Early Access release on, we will give access to the game to all our backers (anyone who bought the game; that is £7 pledge and above).

The main reason is that we feel that now is a good time to begin inviting more participants into our test community, so as to receive more feedback and test the game on a wider variety of hardware and software configurations. In other words: We can really use your help testing the game and would appreciate any feedback you can give us about bugs you find! (Note: Everyone in £7 and £12 tiers will receive an email with instructions on how to acquire the build! For tiers of £15 and above, the process is the same as with previous builds. Plus, there is the Steam key option mentioned above.)

Dex Forum

We have opened our forums (http://forum.dex-rpg.com/) to the public. So, if you are reading this and aren’t registered yet, you are welcome to register and join us for Dex- and cyberpunk-related chat at the forum!

Gamescom reminder

As of this writing, we are already at Gamescom at our booth. Watch our Facebook page for pictures and breaking news! And if you are attending Gamescom, come and pay us a visit: Indie Megabooth, Hall 10.1.

Dex Steam Early Access Trailer

Along with the launch on Steam Early Access, we’ve prepared a new trailer for Dex. It is a  show-reel of the features and content present in the current Early Alpha. Enjoy and share!

Cheers!

Alabug: I think it's the first option (that you will get continuous updates and there will be seamless transition from early access to full game), but we'll double check this with OUYA staff directly.

Timotheus: GOG release will not come earlier than the full final release of Dex. They are not interested in Early Access games (which, in my [Jan J.] opinion, is a good thing - helps differentiate from Steam/Desura/Humble).

    2. Creator Timotheus on September 19, 2014

Looking forward to the GOG release to snag my copy! Any ETA on when that might happen? Thanks!

    3. Creator Alabug on September 19, 2014

If I get early access on the OUYA, does that mean that I'll get future updates until the game is completed or will I get a second OUYA redemption code once the game is complete?

    4. Creator Dreadlocks on September 1, 2014

Andy Cook: cool, glad it is solved!

    5. Creator Andy Cook on August 23, 2014

Thanks for mentioning the KS inbox. The link was sitting there all along, it just hadn't notified me that I had a message waiting. Got the key and downloading the game now =)

    6. Creator Dreadlocks on August 22, 2014

      Raül: Thanks for that!

Ritch: Actually, it seems going well with the GOG guys. We'll post some news as to this in one of our next updates :)

mrfatso: Which email exactly do you mean? We mostly send plaintext emails, so this may be a sort of a bug (ehm, email bug :))

      John Blythe: Thanks!

      Klezzon: Good, cheers!

Andy Cook: That is strange - could you please check both your email and your inbox here on Kickstarter? I am pretty sure we tried to contact all the Kickstarter backers, PayPal backers and EGX Rezzed backers. Let me know (PM) if you can't find it, I will send a new one for you.

    7. Creator Andy Cook on August 22, 2014

Should everyone have their keys by now? I've yet to see anything in my email about it. I backed in the £7 tier if that makes a difference.

    8. Creator Klezzon on August 21, 2014

This is my 800th games on Steam, cheers ! XD

    9. Creator John Blythe on August 17, 2014

Lovely trailer and this game looks stunning. I may even buy it for the Wii U in the new year too. :) Downloading now for PC.

    10. Creator mrfatso ~ Defender of The Goat on August 16, 2014

by the way, is it possible for you guys to change the words colour to something darker instead of orange yellow?

On my email, it's kinda hard to see the words.

    11. Creator Ritch Lizárraga on August 16, 2014

GOG, such a great idea! I hope you guys can make it happen, so for now I'm waiting for it.

    12. Creator Raül Meroño Pericas on August 16, 2014

I received your email today. However, I'm willing to play Dex on my Wii U, so I'll pass this time. I will spread the word as much as I can about Dex on Steam anyway, as some friends of mine might be interested on it in the weeks to come.

    13. Creator Dreadlocks on August 16, 2014

      Hi again!

Franz Luger: Backers from 15 GBP tier and above already received two DRM-free Early Access versions. All backers will receive DRM-free version of the game upon final release. Please, consider Steam key to be "a bonus" or "an option" instead of " a burden".

Gonchi, RainPally: we'll see with GOG, but so far they are really nice and friendly, so I'd 99% bet that as long as we make it to GOG, it would be possible to give you the possibility to unlock Dex over there. The only hindrance at the moment is that they are not accepting Early Access games at all and they'd be judging the game when it´s finished/almost finished, so we'll have to wait longer.

      mrfatso: Thanks for the link!

Anthony Reulbach: We've just been sending the link for the Steam recovery. If you pledged 21 additional pounds, please, choose STEAM key now to receive it now and wait for OUYA/WII U until they become available. Don't worry, you will have all the additional keys :)

Alexandre Mangin: A minor bug, we'll look into it.

    14. Creator mrfatso ~ Defender of The Goat on August 15, 2014

hope to get an answer, but for now, the world looks really beautiful

    15. Creator Alexandre MANGIN on August 14, 2014

I had a quick look at Jim Sterling's video (thanks mrfatso). Is being charged 50 credits instead of 20 on purpose or is it a bug?

    16. Creator Anthony Reulbach on August 14, 2014

Question I pledged 21 pounds more for 3 digital versions of dex one for the ouya and one for the wiiu and one through steam or gog or which ever you use so this update confuses me a little bit and I am sorry is it still possible to get all three digital versions or not? Sorry to ask this

    17. Creator mrfatso ~ Defender of The Goat on August 14, 2014

in the meantime, u can look at jim sterling as he plays dex:

    18. Creator RainPally on August 14, 2014

@Dreadlocks yes if you can go through Gog, please do. I go out of my way to specifically support DRM-Free for every single game I play at every single available possible chance. Yes even if it means buying multiple copies due to being forced through Steam initially...... which I understand because it's the easiest deployment method but for maintenance needs to be through Gog or other DRM-Free.

    19. Creator RainPally on August 14, 2014

Woot! Hopefully you guys have it worked out through Gog soon. I only use Steam as an absolute last resort... I'll even buy a 2nd copy solely through Gog if I have to once you guys release...

    20. Creator DS_Nadine on August 14, 2014

      @Dreadlocks - Thanks for the info! :)

    21. Creator Gonchi on August 14, 2014

@Dreadlocks; Great, thanks for the info, and yep, I pledged for the Physical Edition.

Would love a GOG code for my DRM-Free download, hopefully you guys can work it out, though GOG have been unpredictable in regards to dealing with Kickstarter projects. They'll say one thing to one dev, something to another.

Humble have been very receptive of Kickstarters. At least, I've not heard of any that have been turned away.

    22. Creator David De Ost on August 14, 2014

Franz Luger, some people do want to have the game on Steam. You can hardly expect every game developer to filter messages depending on what this or that portion of the backers may or may not be interested in. You're doubtless a very busy, important person, but I'm sure that even for a busy, important person like you, it's not a lot of effort to just delete emails that concern Steam. In fact, it's much faster to do than coming into this comments section and making unreasonable demands.

Just be glad the game developers are keeping you in the loop about their updates and progress. Sheesh.

    23. Creator Franz Luger on August 14, 2014

I do not support cordwfunding just to end with Steam/UPlay/Origin!
Please stop bothiering me with online client/DRM news and start offering me DRM-free access to it, I expect nothing else and nothing less for my money!

    24. Creator Dreadlocks on August 14, 2014

ET3D: Great, thanks for the info! We'll look into it. (We are at Gamescom at the moment and GOG guys are there as well [maybe also Humble Bundle guys, not sure about that, though], so if we manage, we'll meet them personally to discuss the possibility).

    25. Creator ET3D on August 14, 2014

@Dreadlocks, other Kickstarter projects gave away GOG keys, so apparently it's at least possible. You will have to be on GOG first, I don't know how this goes.

As for DRM-free, several projects I backed gave both DRM-free copies via Humble Bundle. I imagine it's also possible to give Steam and GOG keys that way, but I haven't seen a project do it yet. But when I bought Defender's Quest on the dev's site using the Humble widget, the game's page does have these keys, and of course bundles offer keys alongside DRM-free downloads.

but although I've seen developers give this when buying on their site with the Humble widget (Defender's Quest for example),

    26. Creator Dreadlocks on August 14, 2014

Lars H: Thank you! We recommend keyboard (keyboard + mouse) at this moment. Right now there is partial support for controller (combat system should work with it, for example, but GUI/menus/dialogues are not implemented as to gamepad controls). We want to focus on implementing proper full gamepad support in the coming weeks (we'll post a Kickstarter updated dedicated to this once it is up and ready).

    27. Creator Lars H on August 14, 2014

Great looking trailer. I'm really looking forward playing the game.
Does the game already have full controller support (as for the XBOX 360 Controller in steam), or do you recommend using the keyboard at current state?

    28. Creator Dreadlocks on August 14, 2014

      Hi!

gandalf.nho - Not sure about DRM-free on GOG for backers (I am not sure about GOG politics as to handing out the "keys" / adding games for free to the GOG library). You will have, though, a DRM-free option directly from us (we can promise that, we can't promise GOG yet, though as long as it works for them, it works for us :))

Francisco C. - Definitelly! Even among our team, there are people who love Steam (and keep all their games on Steam) and others (our lead artist, who's doing all the locations and characters in Dex) who don't use Steam (and/or Steam Early Access) :)

Gonchi - Yes, the DVD [if you bought the physical edition] will contain a DRM-free installer.

Stephen "Stoibs" D - We already have the keys prepared, just need to figure out a few other things. We want to send the keys for backers ASAP, preferrably before the weekend (although we can't 100% promise that yet).

DS_Nadine: Thanks for stopping by! As to the forums - we have an admin approval required prior to full registration (at least for now, till the things settle down, to keep an eye on the inflow of registrations). I was approving all the registrered users yesterday night (approx. 8 hours ago), so you should have full forum account now. (+ Feedback note taken, thanks!)

    29. Creator gandalf.nho on August 13, 2014

Nice! We will have a option for the DRM-free version in GOG?

    30. Creator Francisco C. on August 13, 2014

The trailer is looking good (but also got the idea that it is missing some feedback like DS_Nadine said)!
About the game, I will await until the complete version, DRM-free ;)
I am not much a fan of Steam.

    31. Creator Gonchi on August 13, 2014

Hopefully this changes nothing in regards to the release being distributed DRM-Free, including the DVD. I'll pass on Steam, thanks.

    32. Creator Stephen "Stoibs" D on August 13, 2014

Nice, will be eagerly awaiting my steam key. Didn't realise it was this close to a public playable beta build :)

    33. Creator DS_Nadine on August 13, 2014

Hi! Played the game at the booth today, just watched the trailer and I'm really looking forward playing the final game. Since I somehow can't post topics in the forum I just want to give one teeneeweenee Feedback: The enemys you hit with a bullet should show some kind of Feedback, get thrown back a little or so. At the moment they're walking right through it as if there's nothing. - Keep up the good work!
