Dex Released!

Posted by Dreadlocks (Creator)

Cue sound effect: Ten thousand screaming electric guitars playing the theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey on twelve-foot-tall Marshall amps.

We are proud to announce that today we have released the final version of Dex!

It has been a long journey, and you have been with us all the way. The central concept, the art, the gameplay, everything about the game has evolved tremendously over the past two and half years – and you have been part of it by contributing in countless ways. You helped shape the final product and helped us get the attention and funds to push it to the finish line. Many thanks for all of your contributions!

Today we are happy to report that Dex is ready. That means we have released the full game, with all of its content, all of its voice-overs, and all of its finishing touches. And you are now invited to join in our little neo-cyberpunk odyssey!

Dex Launch Trailer

We have prepared a new, final, and – may we humbly suggest – most awesome trailer to showcase the final state of the game. Enjoy and share!

New Screenshots

We have also prepared a bunch of screenshots to help get you primed!

Oh, and if you are a press member/blogger/Let’s Player, you can find all the above materials (and more!) in our press kit for you to use on your sites or in your videos.

Release Channels

The game is now available on Steam and through Humble Store.

We are also discussing the release on GOG, so it is quite possible that in a few weeks Dex will also be available through GOG. (More info on that soon.)

OUYA and Wii U

Right now we have the Windows/Linux/Mac versions ready. The other platforms will follow in the weeks and months to come: OUYA very soon and the Wii U version around this summer. We’ll make a separate announcement with more details on the consoles soon.

Does this mean it’s all over?

Not exactly. Right after the release we plan to start working on the missing extra pieces we promised – the art book, the extended soundtrack, the map of Harbor Prime, and all the other digital and physical goodies. Most of the work has been done already, but it will take some time to wrap it all up and deliver it in polished form.

When will everything be delivered?

The game is good to go now. Ready, willing, and able :-). We intend to finish and release all the promised extras over the course of next month. The shipping of all physical goods is scheduled for early June, so please double-check the shipping address in your Kickstarter account by May 30th at the latest, so we can ship all the orders together. We have an external company handling the shipments and manufacturing for us – the content, of course, is created by us, as always, and will have the same Dex bro-love as all the other cyberpunk stuff we’ve made!

Game Extension Stretch Goal as Free DLC

We didn’t forget – don’t worry: Earlier, during our Kickstarter campaign, we were deciding whether to embed the game extension stretch goal (unique armors set and some extra content) within the game upon release or whether to release it separately as free DLC. We finally decided to offer it as one of the first free DLCs (post-release updates) to everyone who has bought the game (meaning both you, backers, as well as gamers who bought the game on Steam). We’ll post more detailed info about this in a month or so.

Release Party

As announced earlier during our Kickstarter campaign, we will be having a Dex Release Party soon. We will announce the exact date later this week – but it is going to be about three to four weeks from now.

Final – very final – plea to our community!

We would greatly appreciate it if you would help us spread the word. Now more than ever! Please share the trailer, tell your friends about the game, tweet it, Digg it, Reddit it; anything and everything will help!

And, of course, once you play the game, give us your feedback, write user reviews on Steam, whatever you’re inspired to do!

Enjoy Dex!

+1 to GOG relase/update info! Unless the GOG definitely won't happen, i'd rather use my key for the GOG version...

An update on how the gog dealings are going would be nice.
Hope it's not a delay just because there is summer sales and game wouldn't do well without a hefty price cut right now.

    3. Cyboff

Waiting for GOG release confirmation/news too...

    4. Gonchi on

Will we also get a GOG code once the game is released there?

    5. Dreadlocks 3-time creator on

Aye! Sorry! Forgot to tell you guys - we've added Humble Store version (DRM-free) to the backers key resender (link is the same as earlier), so if you want that version, please proceed with the link you have from us earlier in your Kickstarter inbox.

I would like to know this too. This is taking way too long.

      Andrew Sarkarati on

hey guys, when are we getting the DRM free version?

    8. Jalister on

I'm in the same boat as Chris Chen. I haven't received a reply to my email either. I have a Steam early access key, but was not aware this would deny me the DRM free version. I would have preferred a GOG or Humble version. I backed Dex because it was going to provide me with a DRM free version. Many other Kickstarters have used Steam for the alpha/beta/earlyaccess release, and still provided a DRM free version when the game was officially released.

Any survey will be sent out to check the shipping address for physical reward backers?
No option to check it on my Kickstarter account~!

no mention about getting the backer's digital copy? that's not very thougthful...

    11. Chris Chen

@Dreadlocks. I've tried sending a message, but no one seems to be answering messages - probably because of the release and debugging, so I'm just leaving this here in the hopes that someone will be able to answer my query...

Eeep! I pressed "Select" on the Reward page for a Steam key by accident!
I was waiting for a GOG key.

I'm not sure whether I'm allowed to have a Steam (Early Access) key if I want a GOG key on full release. It's was said in the comments that the Steam Early Access was a "bonus", which implies that I am allowed to have it as well as a GOG key, but the emails and messages also said that you're only allowed one key. O_o
So, if I'm not allowed a Steam Early Access key along with the GOG key, is it possible to revoke or take back the Steam key I was issued, so that I can get a GOG key, please!

How will the game extension stretch goal as free DLC work on the OUYA? Will you be releasing a small update for the game? The OUYA is notoriously annoying with updates because they require APK size x2 + 512MB buffer.

    13. JetStrange on

Ooooo yea this game is all kinds of good :D

    14. Old Man on

Sweet, will probably wait for GOG release.

    15. Dreadlocks 3-time creator on

Fabiano - we'd like to deliver all in June, that's our current plan. We'll see in in about two weeks from now if that's real. There's way more bugs than we expected, so bugfixing will be our priority for the next week or two.

GOG release - in process. It is not going to happen earlier than ~ 2 weeks from now, but if that is your preferred way of delivery, I would suggest waiting (also since the game will be way more debugged than as it is now, we got loads of bugreports on Steam over the past three days).

ThomasN + Fredrik: Sorry for the delay. It is more a communication issue at this point. Dex is already available in DRM-free version on Humble Store, we just need to get the keys delivered to you guys. Give us two or three days!

ThomasN: Sad bu true. This is not my first time being neglected as a DRMfree-backer either. Been waiting over 6 weeks for drm free version of woolfe. Then there have been 4-5 others who eventually bothered giving me the DRMfree version. There is no way I will ever support rental games (steam).

    17. ThomasN on

Another dev who releases the game and make DRM free backers look like second class citizens.
I could beg for you giving me any info about Humble download (it's not in the keyresender list OR my humble account), but seriously, wayne.

Hi there just a quick question for those of us who wanted the Wii U version I'm right in thinking that no code will be sent for steam and we'll just get the Wii U one when its released? Just wanted to double check thank you.

    19. Shiru XIII on

      Congratulations !!

    20. Fabiano Ferramosca on

Quick question: how much time until we get the game extensions, free DLC and stuff? If it's just one month, I don't mind waiting. If it takes more, I will start playing the game rigth away.

      Jeremy Thompson on

I'd prefer GOG as well. Please keep us updated on progress with a GOG distribution! Thanks, and kudos on the release!

    22. ☜☆RSF☆☞ on

So much awesome - but I gotta be away this weekend! Noooooo!! ;-) Can't wait to give it a go as soon as I get back!

    23. Philipp on

Hell yeah! Please hurry up with the GOG release, can't wait (well i can, otherwise i'd get a steamkey, but i'm really itching to play it ASAP^^)

A way to get a DRM free version would be great, so far there’s only steam on the backer site. I’d prefer GOG over Humble Store too.

    25. gandalf.nho

      Another vote for GOG

Waiting for GOG as well. Just a clean installer would be fine too of course.
Tiny annoyance over the steam focus but likely that is where you will get most of your sales from.

Trailer is great and I will be sure to recommend the game to those I know.

    27. Gonchi on

I'd prefer GOG over Humble or Steam, so I'll also wait for GOG release.

Also, sending you a private message with regards to the physical goods.

      Awesome news!

I am one of the backers who would like to own the game on GOG, so I will wait with redeeming my code until you´ll announce it is available on GOG :)

Please, do let us know, I am sure I´m not the only one who wants that.

    32. Cyboff

      Great news! Congrats!

p.s. and waiting for GOG key then :)

Awesome! I'll fire it up this evening :)
Now, you just got me a bit confused, I don't remember you sending a survey via Kickstarter, so how can you get my address for the physical goodies?
