“The creators use the book to define what it means to be a god, and what happens when creatures who thought they were gods discover they’re actually monsters in a world that’s been blown apart.” —Paste Magazine
The Dread Gods Olympian Edition is a lavish, oversize hardcover collecting the first four issues of the Dread Gods series by writer Ron Marz and artist Tom Raney, from a concept by Bart Sears, and color by Nanjan Jamberi, via Ominous Press. A science-fiction fantasy set both in paradise and in a hellish future, Dread Gods asks what happens when the gods find out they’re actually monsters?
In addition to the complete Dread Gods series, the Olympian Edition also includes a new, exclusive 10-page tale by Marz and Raney that continues the story, and an extensive cover gallery featuring artwork by Neal Adams, Bart Sears, Tom Raney, Kenneth Rocafort, Cully Hamner, Kevin Maguire, Kelley Jones, and Andy Smith. Rounding out the volume is more than 50 pages of behind-the-scenes artwork, featuring a treasure trove of designs and sketches by both Bart Sears and Tom Raney. The Olympian Edition is the ultimate Dread Gods package, measuring 8 inches by 12 inches, and a full 196 pages. It’s perfect for both those who crave an epic graphic novel experience, and process junkies who want a peek behind the curtain of the creative process.
Master storytellers Marz (Green Lantern, Silver Surfer) and Raney (X-Men, StormWatch) join forces to reveal a post-apocalyptic landscape where the population plugs into a daily entertainment provided by the Prometheus conglomerate, featuring god-like heroes led by Zeus and Hera. In their bucolic paradise, the gods live glorious lives of adventure and romance, but Zeus is troubled by strange dreams, even as his long-simmering feud with Hades is about to boil over. Meanwhile, in the barren Wasteland, a wheelchair-bound man named Carver comes to believe the gods are in danger, and must be saved.
Dread Gods is both stirring fantasy and cutting-edge science fiction, featuring some of the most awe-inspiring artwork of Raney’s acclaimed career.
