I had just helped fund the exclusive Madman action figure through the Amazing Heroes Kickstarter campaign. Christian LeBlanc had just fascinated eyeballs everywhere with his conversion work on the Madman In Your Face 3D Special Starring Frank Einstein. He couldn't stop converting Mike's characters into 3D, and I was anxious to play in the Snap City Sandbox myself, so we joined forced to bring more swell Madman swag into the world.
Luckily, Mike was able to come up for air long enough (between drawing Silver Surfer for Marvel, and seeing his comics co-creation iZombie hit TVs everywhere through The CW) to give us permission to go through 20+ years of Madman comics for a set of 3D trading cards!
Madman Comin' Atcha 3D Trading Cards come in a 44-card deck with 36 Madman and 8 Atomics cards. Included in each deck is a pair of card-sized custom Swell-O-Vision 3D Specs (seen below)!
To sweeten the deal, we're creating a 10-card set (shipped in a clear acrylic case) of other artists' renditions of Madman and his pals; not only do you see the work of Alex Toth, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, and Darwyn Cooke converted to 3D--but also new cards (drawn for this set) by Dean Haspiel (The Fox, Billy Dogma), Simon Fraser (Doctor Who, Nikolai Dante), Terry Huddleston (Thaniel), Ethan Young (Tails, Nanjing), George Folz (The Roman Nose, Star Wars), and Bizhan Kodabhan (The Little Red Fish). The Artist Pack comes with a pair of plain 3D glasses.
There's an added level of bonus cards of Red Rocket 7, Madman Inks, and the (not in 3D) Madman Pencil Sketch Card, which is a printed card of a classic Madman pin-up's pencils--which only come in the Hangin' Out Mega Ginchy Fun Pack pledge level and up.
Bump it up to the Comin' Along Mega Swell Pack, and we'll get Mike to sign the Madman Pencil Sketch Card!
The Madman Precognition Sneak Preview Pack features 7 laser-printed cardstock preview cards, one of which is the signed Madman! They'll be delivered in May, right after the campaign wraps up.
You can either get it individually for $20 (limited to five):
Or, you can get it as the Big Future Pack, which features everything from the Big Time Pack plus the preview cards. Like the other level, it's only limited to five.
And if we not only meet our goal (but totally annihilate it, Daddio), we have even more cards in store for each of our two stretch goals.
We just unlocked our stretch goal for $5,000, which will increase the main deck from 44 to 62 cards!
Come on and join the party. We're only getting started.
FOR INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: We want to bring Snap City to anyone in the world with a mailing address. Unfortunately, it costs a few more clams (that's money) from place to place. If you don't see your home country in the Rewards, no worries: Message me through Kickstarter, and I'll get back to you with shipping costs.
Risks and challenges
We've been lining up printers and working on the conversion and design process for two months already, so we're not worried about the actual production. We're going for a modest print run that will be hand collated and we're hoping to get these out the door to you within a couple to few months of getting funded.
Our biggest concern is in making a high quality card set that Madman and Atomics fans will dig like none other. Turning around a proof set will add to our time, but we feel it's a necessary evil in getting the best cards for you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
