“As much as silly 1980’s cartoons defined my childhood, so did trading cards, making this the perfect combination - kind of like a robot, and I don’t know, a car or truck or some sort of vehicle.”--Jeffrey Brown
The Awesomebots want to tell the story of their fight with the Fantasticons as a blockbuster movie.
Unfortunately, Electronocybercircuitron credits ain't Hollywood money.
So they asked me to create trading cards! This set of 12 pieces of cardboard are taken from the Change-Bots graphic novels by cartoonist Jeffrey Brown (A Matter of Life, Clumsy, Darth Vader and Son).
Never before has their been a set of trading cards so awesome! Never before have there been trading cards that are more than just trading cards--
They're the Incredible Change-Bots trading cards!
You can back the regular Change-Bots set for $20: you get 12 cards (printed on standard 16pt stock) that come in a hand-wrapped old-school style wrapper!
The set also comes with a clear red Tech Revealer which, when held up against the back of the card, reveals the secret vehicle mode! Also included in the pack is an exclusive Heavy Metal Balls Battle card with new art by Jeffrey!
There are also five Heavy Metal cards, each one featuring Change-Bots printed on white metal! Get a Heavy Metal Change-Bots group shot, Heavy Metal Big Rig, Heavy Metal Honky Tonk, Heavy Metal Balls, and Heavy Metal Microwave!
And finally, immortalize the never-ending fight between Big Rig and Shootertron with the laser-etched giant cards! Using original Jeffrey art, our friends at BIG SECRET are creating a limited run of 25 each, on either shiny acrylic or African sapele hardwood. They're also numbered and won't be available after this campaign.
We'd also love to get up to the 24 point stock in a tuck box, but are now going to build to it through stretch goals! it starts with these two goals:
THANKS AND KUDOS!
The Incredible Change-Bots trading cards are made possible with the help of the following human beings:
Jeffrey Brown Comics: The human chronicler of the Change-Bots! Also known as "the creator" to certain Awesomebots and Fantasticons.
BIG SECRET: Home of laser etching devices worshipped by humans in making unique art objects
DoubleTake Studios: Humans who bow to the camera to document their lives and communicate in video form
The Byrd Theater: An old "movie palace" where humans have congregated for almost 100 years for entertainment and to consume "popcorn" (also known as "Popper guts")
Top Shelf Productions: Run by one Chris Staros, a publisher who lets humans draw their stories in comic book form for visual consumption
Risks and challenges
This is the fourth set for The Drawn Word, so many of the basic kinks of publishing have been worked out, to the point where we're as well-oiled as Big Rig's joints. However, we do have about as many moving parts as an Awesomebot, so there's always a chance one component could delay the rest--but we'll keep you posted.
There's also the distinct likelihood these cards could blow up like a war-torn robot planet, in which case the hand-collated and shipped sets might take a bit longer--but we're kind of hoping for that problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
