Keep your keys safe from thieves.
After five years of successful Kickstarter campaigns, we've looked to address an issue that is affecting more people every day. Keyless car theft through signal relay attacks have seen a massive increase over the past three years and in light of our RFID-blocking wallets, we wanted to do something about it.
KeyBlock is similar to current car key protectors that block all RFID signals, preventing thieves from gaining access to your car without a key, but our new design has some new features that make it much easier to use and it’s also finished with genuine leathers from Aston Martin, Tesla and BMW.
Two thieves with commercially available transmitters can boost the signal from your key inside your house and gain access to your car in under 60 seconds.
We found the current solutions just weren't user friendly and of poor quality. So we set out to design a case specifically for your car key.
Now we have a product that not only keeps your keys safe from hackers, it prevents damage, keeps things together, has free personalisation and will instantly upgrade any car key.
Here’s what you could do: keep your key in a metal box (some recommend the fridge), wrap it in aluminium foil, settle for a cheap pouch from who-knows-where, and that’s fine. But we don’t want ‘fine’, we want ‘good’.
What about the more stylised items on the market? Mass-manufactured car key pouches with four button holes for a three-button fob, garish stitching and cheap materials that barely hold together. You wouldn’t buy a car that barely held together. Or shoes. Or windows. You lock your house door at night, not just roll a boulder in front of it. This is an elegant solution to an increasing problem.
So here’s what you should do: invest in KeyBlock. It looks good and it works. Bingpot.
Push button ejector
Unlocking your car at a distance is a convenience we don’t want to deprive you of. KeyBlock is easy to use single-handed, leaving your other hand free to carry the shopping, open the door for your partner or keep your child close.
Why settle for some plastic or polyurethane cover? We have the actual leathers used in Aston Martin and Tesla models to cover your keys. You don’t compromise on security, so why compromise on looks?
Unrivalled in it’s wear-resistance, the leathers we have are used in high-end cars and by the Ministry of Defence. They don’t skimp on quality and neither do we.
Composite construction for maximum signal blocking
Modern security has many layers: doors, locks, alarms, sensors, so it only makes sense that so does KeyBlock: multi-layered RFID shielding within a modern polymer housing, wrapped in wear-resistant leather. Security that doesn’t sacrifice style.
For keyless ignition the key is ejected and held halfway with our patent pending internal mechanism. The single-button operation makes it a dream to use, so you can get on the road quickly and easily.
Sometimes, you can’t improve on a classic. We’ve incorporated a leather cap to hold your key secure. Simply pop it open, use the slider button and your key fob is there. Stainless steel as well, so it isn’t going to wear out.
But what about your other keys, the ones that can’t be scanned (as easily, anyway)? A built-in split ring allows you the option of keeping all your keys together.
Stands up for you
We wanted this to look great even when on the side board in your house, so we designed it to stand wherever it was placed, keeping your keybowl organised.
It already looks the business but it needs something else. How about free personalisation? Put your name on it, phone number, a message or a date. Whatever you like. Probably avoid your registration though. Gives the game away too easy.
Now you can keep the key in as good condition as the day you bought it, all while keeping it safe.
Soft inner lining
That’s right. Not rattling around in some tin or plastic box. Internally lined to keep your key pristine.
Anybody who says ‘just put it in a box’ clearly doesn’t know what it’s like to carry a metal box around in their pocket all day. And have you seen what a tin can do to jeans? It’ll wear through a pocket like a lightsabre through a youngling.
KeyBlock is sized to fit neatly in any pocket, whether suit, trouser or otter.
Not every car key is the same, so we’ve designed two different sizes to best fit your key. This eliminates any extra bulges in your pockets (and let’s face it, you probably only want one bulge).
You can pick your sizes in the post campaign survey.
We have the actual leathers used in Aston Martin and Tesla models to cover your keys, from a classic gunsmoke natural grain to a technical carbon fiber weave, keep it looking sharp.
Choosing a different colour and size.
We'll send out a simple questionnaire that will let you choose the size and colour that you want when the campaign ends.
If you are after a combination or something special that we haven't listed (three for example), just drop us a direct message here on Kickstarter and we can sort this out for you.
We're also open to suggestions of anything else you might like to see, either finishes or colours. Drop us a message or comment and we'll get back to you.
We genuinely love to hear your thoughts and field your questions, so get in touch.
If your key is something that we have not come across before and is bigger than the larger size, we want to hear from you! Let us know the dimensions of your key and we can get to work on a larger size!
RFID Signal Test
We've tested many forms of KeyBlock to make sure your keys are protected, using faraday key pouches, boxes and a whole variety of signal blocking materials until we settled on this design.
We have also ensured Keyblock, blocks all signals from any manufactured car.
Testing of the materials also went far and beyond cars, as this is the same materials we use in a majority of our wallets we can say for sure that it also blocks rfid, radio and mobile phone signals.
The original Carbon wallet was a big hit among professionals around the world, so we’ve brought that same game-changing look and feel to the automotive world. Now you can upgrade your car key, not just protect it.
Hand-assembled in the UK
Everything that goes into this design is sourced from UK companies and then put together here in the UK by skilled craftspeople. No middlemen, no chief financial officer forcing us to cut corners to pump up profits. Just a desire to make the best car key signal blocking case we can.
Backed by you
This isn’t our idea, it’s yours. Over the years, we’ve had repeated calls for something like this and now the time is right to do it. It’s not about blasting ‘Vanacci’ wherever you go: this is yours to have, use and enjoy. This is why we have only discreetly branded the base of KeyBlock with our logo.
Who we are
A team of designers, engineers and makers with a passion for quality goods that provide security to everyday scenarios.
How will you pull this off?
We've a lot of experience in creating, running and fulfilling Kickstarter campaigns. Over the past five years, we've started and fulfilled ten campaigns to thousands of backers all over the world.
This activity has established an international business that produces everything by hand here in the UK. We work with leather, 3D printing, a wide variety of metals and plastics. All production takes place in house by our skilled team and all shipping is handled from our workshop.
Risks and challenges
As this is our 11th Kickstarter project, we're well prepared to manufacture and fulfil the project, using key partners Royal Mail and FedEx to do so.
We are problem solvers so if anything doesn't go to plan, we'll sort it out and get you what was promised, you'll be kept in the loop all the way. We've delivered on our 10 previous Kickstarters and KeyBlock will be no different, because we truly care about the things we make.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
