The Elder Dragon

Hey there,

This will be a quick update. We just received our Elder Dragon back from the painter and we wanted to take this moment to address a subject that has been asked enough times to get incorporated into our FAQ section: size and scale of miniatures.

This image has sparked a lot of attention on Facebook. It showcases the Elder Dragon prototype being held by one of the gamedesigners.

In case you are wondering, this Elder Dragon prototype has approximately 270mm in height and a 300mm wingspan. We plan on reducing it (specially the wingspan) a little bit, in order for it to tightly fit a box with the same width of our Core Box / Expansion Box, since so many of you have backed our Full Pledge.

Luna, our mascot (at least until we find an actual dragon), carefully smelling her next potential opponent.

We had originally announced that the Elder Dragon would be on a 3-inch base. This would make him simply an alternate figure you could put on the board on a Boss Fight, instead of the figure you already find in the Core Box.

You correctly pointed out that this did not add anything to the gameplay, so we decided to change that. We will make a special Boss Fight designed to be played specifically against this Dragon, which will have a gargantuan 5-inch base diameter.

Most pictures of this kind are made in the computer but I thought the lighting in my room was good enough to try this. The dimensions stated above and below are not exact and may be subject to slight changes.

Since we are talking about sizes and scales, here they are for other miniatures in the game:

Heroes/villains: 28mm scale, total height range from 35 to 45mm (1-inch base diameter). Yes, they are compatible with those RPG games you enjoy that use 28mm scales.

Hydra: 90x120x85mm miniature (3-inch base diameter)

Core Box Dragon: 110x110x85mm (3-inch base diameter)

Walls: 55mm height; lenght variable (2-5 inches)

Misc: Variable.

All miniatures will come preassembled and will be made of PVC plastic mixed with ABS, a resistant material that will not allow long sections (such as swords/spears) to bend.

The elder dragon isn't actually a dragon. Dragons have four legs, while Wyverns only have two. The front legs of the Wyvern are fused to its wings, very much like arms. So it's actually a gigantic Wyvern!

Alright you got me, changed to Full Pledge. As said before, keep the dragon as big as possible.
@Clint Lee Werner: Would definitely be a nice counterpart to the big dragon from "Joan of Arc", unfortunaley I missed the "Mythic Battles: Pantheon" KS, but it is coming back this year, so I'm going to be all-in there. Then I'm going to dig up some old rules I've got lying around here (somewhere in the darkest crypts) to let the three beasties battle it out against each other. King of the Monster Hill ;-)

I would vote against reducing the wingspan of this beast. It looks really, really great with wings unfurled!

Really impress with the dragon! You should def post this pic on the main campaign page to make it more visible to prospect backers out there

Maybe for the two dragon scenario you could have the smaller dragon on your side?

Sweet this is the best Kickstarter project ever!

Very nice! Any chance we can have a mission that includes both dragons? Since most backers here will have both, would be exciting to use both of them.

I'll also say that I appreciate the rear shot, as we've already seen this dragon face-on. It is nice to see the detailing of its back as well.

Gigantic! Only model that might come close would be the dragon from Joan of Arc. This brute is certainly bigger than Typhon in Mythic Battles, and he's not exactly a slouch.

Very happy you decided to conjure special rules for this abomination! Given the vast disparity in size, he should have a much more epic feel than fighting the standard dragon.

As othees have pointed out, a picture from the front would have been great. Still an impressive dragon, and I cannot wait to get my brushes on it. Looking forward to the game also.

The picture of the dragon with the dog is taken from the front guys.
But a close-up all around would be nice.

Very cool dragon, and glad to hear it will get its own battle!

Try to keep that wingspan as big as you can, it looks epic!

Also, yeah its weird that it isn't shown from the front, like in any of the 3 pics

I had assumed the 2nd dragon had its own rules and fight, glad you guys changed it would have been a missed opportunity. Keep up the good work, this KS is going to be awesome!

      WHAT!?

That has to be the biggest mini I've ever seen in a KS game

    21. Bart - A mega miniature is a megature on

And you say that miniatures come pre assembled...
Does that include the huge dragon..? Because that would need an impressive box.
Or do you just need to click on the wings (or something like that)?

Why didn't you take a picture of the front of the dragon?

      That dragon is just AWESOME!!!!
      And cute dog btw.
