Essentials of a Cyberpunk World: Slang

Firstly, I want to thank all of you for being awesome! Yesterday was one of the best days for the campaign so far, both in terms of funding, and in new backers!

Normally at this stage in a campaign things are starting to cool off, but we're actually gaining momentum thanks to all of you CYBERPUNKS spreading the campaign!

Let's take a look at slang in 2185.

Not all slang is universal, and each city sourcebook will feature their own slang lists specific to that region, however some slang is used across the world in 2185, and we'll look at some of those today!

Here we have a list of 10 slang terms that you'll encounter in day to day life in 2185.

What's your favourite?

Do you have any good suggestions for slang? Let us know!

I am so going to make it so my party will be able to say 'Shut up Wesley' at least once! :D

Sweet Sixteen: Someone slumming it probably on parents money. Lots of high tech and no skills, probably running their mouth. Easy mark/money maker if used right.

mechanic - troubleshooter/problemsolver of the dirty kind (including problems of continued survival of individuals)

Those are all great suggestions guys! Keep them coming and you may see one or two in the Core Rulebook!

I like the idea of "yeah, he's lagging". :D

Frag I know more for 404'd by murder. One particular slang word for murdered that I have stumbled upon and think would work well, especially in the Tokyo book is "folded". The idea behind the word being folded like origami paper (which isn't very healthy for a person as you might notice).

    8. Kiraah on

      Frag/ged - f*ck/f*cked
Lag/ging - Someone high who's tripping out/not able to function [on the 2185 equivalent of Lean]
      Schway - Cool B)

"Chum" for newbies on the street who look like they won't last long.

Then there's the good old "chummer" as in SR, although you could also use... say "padre" (shortened compadre).

What about Divers, for Dark Web operatives?

Love the cowboy xD, would have gone for Bebop myself =P

Hard choice. Wesley's just spectacular, Pinocchio too much of a classic not to like and 404'd a great idea.

    12. Joshua Ohmer on

Loved Pinocchio and pixelfreak, but really got a kick out of Wesley!

Ben, now you're getting it! Come back at the same time next week for another 10 pieces of slang!
Sebastian, we LOVE Pinocchio as well! It doesn't look it, but each one of these was agonised over!

“Wesley” as a Crush addict. I loled so hard I 404d.

    15. Sebastian D. on

Pinocchio is my clear winner - that's both fresh and very fitting. 404'd is nice, though.

@Test Monkey It's very, very difficult to tell Synths from Humans, until you get to know one!

@Chris Thanks! Almost 200 years after it started airing, STG is still a fan favourite in 2185

      It’s a tie:

      404’d and Pinocchio

@Matt Drake Thus is life in 2185
@Christos 404'd came from one of our Discord users! We couldn't NOT use it after we read it!

      Digging the Wesley.

I am giggling at both there being a drug called Crush, and addicts called Wesleys.

      Easily my favorite is 404'd
