About this project
Did you miss the campaign? Follow our progress and join the thousands of other dragons at store.steampowered.com/app/305960/
We did it! With the help of our players, fans, and friends we raised about $35,000 in just 30 days! Wow, thank you! The entire team is excited and grateful.
What's next? We'll begin emailing activation keys as soon as pledges clear, or around February 20th. We'll update everyone about the anticipated release dates of the other backer rewards after keys and thank you emails are sent out.
Once you've had a chance to play Dragon, it is extremely helpful if you submit a thumbs-up Steam review: tell us what you like, your ideas on what would make the game even better, what you love about dragons, and anything else you'd like us to know. Please remember you're getting the latest version of the working prototype, so bugs are part of the fun :)
Although this campaign is over, there are still many stretch goals we are committed to seeing in the final version of the game. We will continue to reinvest revenue from sales and other fundraising efforts as we march towards version 1.0.
Thanks again, it is our privilege to make this incredible game with you. See you in the skies, dragons!

Inspire terror and awe in Dragon: The Game, the first open-world sandbox action RPG that lets you experience the world as the dragon.
DTG: Dragon Simulator Meets Action-RPG
You are a dragon, thundering across the sky, soaring with ravenous appetite. Do you bring majesty, wealth, and power to the lands or are you a creature of legendary terror?
Experience dragons in their proper role as the monstrous, complex, and epic protagonists that they are. In this open world action role-playing game you bring your dragon's story to life. As you hunt, eat, and age, your dragon develops. You improve and customize its wings, tail, claws, and breath weapon. Over the centuries, you develop your inner draconic magic and other latent abilities, claim territory, and impact the course of history.
Become a terrifying or benevolent dragon powerful enough to threaten city states and reshape kingdoms.
DTG is a unique blend of action, exploration, freedom, and power.
The game as been described as Grand Theft Auto meets Skyrim. A "dragon simulator" with role playing and city-building elements.
Gameplay is emergent. Whereas most games follow the story of a frail mortal aspiring to be great, DTG puts you directly into a flying, fire-breathing, awe-inspiring, customizable, extremely powerful dragon.
As we all know, dragons do as they please. So immerse yourself in the lore and story of the world. Fulfill quests, rescuing (or eating) princesses, collecting artifacts and wealth. Or, venture out into the world on your own, live off the land, uncover the lost history of dragons, explore the countryside, and leave your own claw-mark in this world.
Dragons occupy an enormous creative space and many games include dragons, or riding dragons, or hunting dragons, or being dragon-born, but none have set to the task of building the greatest "draconic experience " possible...Until now!
Imagine the possibilities. How do villages and kingdoms react when you fly over-head? Do you seek to work with the races of humanoids or do you extort them? Do you build alliances with your draconic brothers and sisters or do you dominate, displace, or slay them? DTG allows you play through an unparalleled draconic experience in a sandbox fantasy universe. The player guides his dragon through it's life: hunting, eating, and growing powerful over the centuries. Becoming more powerful, you progress from day-to-day survival to a mighty beast whose presence is felt across the lands. Our goal is to create a story that engages, but does not dictate your experience:
The lore provides direction but the real story of DTG is created by the player and it evolves organically, in response to the cities and characters you help and those you destroy. During each play-through your choices as a dragon will shape the world, your actions affecting the centuries to come. Over time technology and magic will advance--the cities, enemies, and draconic rivals you meet will grow increasingly dangerous over the course of the game.
To survive and thrive you will need to eat, seek out a lair, and amass wealth; using food and treasure to purchase new body parts, customizations, and weapons, leveling up abilities, and upgrading your dragon's instinct and senses. Receive gifts or demand tribute from nearby kingdoms to accelerate your growth. Exploration is key. The world is large and filled with gold, magic, and peril. Every location contains a potential quest event...
- Burn down an infected forest before the blight can spread
- Respond to slavers demanding your surrender or dragon hunters seeking your hide
- Deliver supplies to impoverished village
- Patrolling your territory
- Slaying prides of griffins
- Survive in an uncharted world
- Other draconic quests to come...
The Final Game
We've build a strong foundation for this game and poured our hearts, lives, and money into getting DTG to this point. Your support will allows us to create an unmatched draconic experience for your PC, Mac, or Linux. We plan expansion to XBOX One and PSN when possible.
- Full Customization: Choose your dragon's bloodline, body type, and anatomy. Choose its color, face, look, and abilities. Customize and upgrades your weapons and armor such as scales, breath weapon, bite, tail, and wings. Adorn its body with spikes, armor, scars. Are you lean and fast, choosing razor sharp claws, with talons for extra reach and deadly bleeding? Or are you an armored behemoth, careening through the skies with arrow repelling dragonhide. All combinations and possible.
- 5 Core Draconic Races: We are working on 5 core dragon races that have unique abilities, starting areas, advantages, and disadvantages. Customize and empower your bloodline over the generations by passing on traits and achievements to your descendants by completing quests, leveling up, and choosing a mate.
- Hunt and feast on tribute as you grow more powerful through the years. Hoard gold, claim a lair and expand your dominance throughout a dragon-sized sandbox fantasy world.
- Choose who to help and who to eat. Choose which cities will benefit and thrive under your protection and which will burn...
- Single and multi-player modes for all of your dragon co-op and PVP needs; work together in peace or find out who's the top dragon.
- Users Mods - The creativity of our players will help this game become greater than we could imagine on our own. Integration with Steam Workshop is planned as well.
- Several possible conclusions; never-ending play.
- Deep RPG elements: From background traits, to titles, and rewarding statistics--you've never been able to make the dragon with so many options. Become the dragon you've always imagined.
- Incredible soundtrack: We have four great songs so far, but our musician S.J. Tucker is working hard to give us a full soundtrack that greatly enhances and narrates your draconic experience.
Our Challenge--How funds will be used
Red Level Games has already built a great deal of the world of Dragon: The Game over the past 14 months. Our Early Access release last year on Steam brought in over 12,000 players! Since then the vision and technology behind DTG has grown and we need our communities support to deliver this remarkable game.
Unfortunately, we've disappointed some of our fans along the way and earned some negative reviews with progress that hasn't been as fast as they would like, or features that have been removed, tweaked, or temporarily broken along the way. We hear them, and understand their complaints.
As we have developed Dragon, it has grown us as a team and a studio to create this game. We also recognized the opportunity to upgrade to Unity 5 and "swing for the fences" with a much deeper game and more robust codebase. This has been a long but worthwhile path to follow. Now we're on the other side of the time-consuming pivot from a simple prototype released last November to the current multiplayer, 3d Unity 5 dragon experience.
Which is why we need your help.
We've solved many of our most complex technical hurdles and need your support to make this game incredible. In addition to what RLG has already invested into this game, this Kickstarter will allow us to....
Access to the game

Risks and challenges
Building an enormous universe full of characters, dynamic structures, and beautiful artwork takes time. In the time that Red Level Games undertook to complete Phase One of the creation of Dragon: The Game, we have already learned about many of the risks and challenges that await us here in the crucial Kickstarter funding phase of this games development.
One risk is that early players of our game are not able to envision the game as it will ultimately be. In allowing for players to become the dragon, it was necessary first to have a flyable dragon and a world in which that dragon could fly. As this was created and shown, the ultimate Role Playing style of the game was not immediately evident. Without that in mind, Dragon: The Game can feel like a simulator alone.
As we build out our world, populate it with both dragons and humans, and as players begin to create their own dragon narratives, this misunderstanding will dissipate. We anticipate an increasing desire from our community to have main and side quests to follow, more and bigger lairs to inhabit, and new ways in which their own dragon can become differentiated. Growing our community and getting this feedback is one of the most important aspects of this Kickstarter campaign, and it will allow this community to collectively build the universe of Dragon: The Game.
In addition to real-time progress towards the ultimate experience of Dragon: The Game, we will also develop many uniquely generated skins and enhanced visual creation. After building the world, we want to make it beautiful for our dragons, even if they eventually burn it to the ground! Our goals are ambitious, but with a successful campaign here, our artists and writers are ready to execute and deliver an immersive and innovative experience!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
