Our Leather D20 Dice Case was practically an accident in creation! While experimenting with designs for a wooden D20 on an industrial laser, we took a piece of scrap leather and decided to see how it would look cut and engraved with a number, then stitched together to form a solid D20!
Realizing how much space was inside this big hollow leather D20, we knew it’d make a great dice case right away! This began a two month process of experimenting with various designs for lids and closures, linings, stitching patterns, etc…
And now, through all our work, we get to present you with our final design!
Through countless experiments and tests, we came up with a series of features that resulted in the coolest and most practical leather dice bag we’ve ever seen!
Look, we don’t know how they work, and anybody who says they do is a liar! But magnets are cool, either way! We use 5 pairs of extremely strong neodymium magnets to secure the lid of our dice bags. This means you can flip your dice around, hold it upside down, and generally not care how it’s carried, secure that the dice inside will not spill out easily. In our tests, we had to hold the bag upside down and shake it, rather hard, to get the lid to come off unintentionally! To open it easily, use pressure from the side to slide the magnets away from one another and the lid pops right off!
We’ve done a lot of art by hand, and we’ve even hand-engraved leather in the past with a number of methods. With a skilled hand, you can get beautiful results, but it takes a lot of time and effort to get a precise result. But with a computer controlled industrial engraving laser, all the artistry goes into the design of each panel, and the laser flawlessly recreates it on every single D20! Using the laser to cut each panel as well as the holes used in stitching means every single D20 has a perfect isocohedron shape, and every stitch is placed with absolute precision.
In order to protect the stitching and the leather from all your polyhedral friends tumbling about, we line each D20 with a cloth pouch. Each of our leather cases can hold 18 full sets of standard RPG gaming dice, for a total of 126 dice! We’ve even filled it to the brim with heavy metal dice just to be sure it could handle it! That made for one seriously heavy dice bag, but not a single stitch loosened under the burden!
To hold the magnets firmly in place, we made a two-piece closure system. The bottom ring holds the magnets and the cloth lining to the D20 pouch, and helps the leather to always hold a rigid shape. The top portion of the closure is solid, sealing off the leather lid to keep stray dice from getting caught on the wrong side when opening your dice bag. To add a touch of artistry, we embedded a wooden inlay into the lid with our logo.
As an add-on, we can engrave a personal message or even an image into the wooden inlay. Perfect for a unique gift or just an added touch for your own enjoyment.
We want you to have as many options as you like, without making a huge mess of the pledge tiers, so we’re keeping things simple, and if the campaign goes large enough to need one, we’ll use a pledge manager to help sort everything for fulfillment.
For now, simply choose which of our leather D20 options you would like, and add the price for any add-ons or additional features. If you would like more than one D20 case, simply add the total costs together!
Our pricing tiers include discounts and bonus items for different pledge totals, so be sure to check them out and see what extras your pledge will qualify for!
Shipping costs will be calculated based on weight, but these estimates will help act as a guideline. There is no charge for packaging or handling. Shipping costs will be processed during fulfillment and processed through our pledge manager as a separate charge.
You do NOT need to include this amount in your pledge.
Dragon’s Claw Tabletop is founded and fully operated by artists. We developed this idea at a makerspace with the help of a half dozen other artists and crafters. We hand-picked our leather, inspected every cut and engraved piece, dyed and polished, and then hand-stitched each D20 throughout our testing and design process. In doing so, we learned exactly how much time, effort, and care goes into making each dice case to a high standard of quality, and we know that same standard can be met consistently throughout the fulfillment of this campaign!
In order to guarantee this high standard of excellence in our craftsmanship, we have set our fulfillment tiers in waves of limited production, so that we never have to sacrifice even one stitch worth of perfection in order to meet our fulfillment dates.
We’re going to try something unique for this and give all of our backers and fans, regardless of backer level, the power to choose which styles and colors are available throughout this campaign! We picked a few combinations to start out, but as we reach various stretch goals, we will post polls on our twitter for everyone to vote on to continuously add more options to our list!
When you make your pledge, simply add the cost of your add-ons. Any bonuses from your pledge level will be in addition to the add-ons you choose. After the campaign ends, you'll be able to choose all of your options, such as the color of your keychain, the designs on your coasters, etc... Plus, we have several stretch goals planned to give more options and additional add-ons!
$8 - Dragon’s Claw Keychain: We know some of you may want to support this campaign even if our D20 cases are outside of your budget right now, so we wanted something we could send to you as our thanks, as well as a reminder for the future should you ever want to check out our products!
$15 - Custom Engraved Lid: We wanted to have a way to personalize your dice bag, especially if you're giving it as a gift! With our engraved lids, we found the perfect opportunity! You can write any message you like, or something as simple as a name, in a wide choice of fonts.
$25 - Drink Coasters (Set of 5): So, there's a bit of a story here. As artists we are big about reusing and recycling, and we absolutely hate when things just go to waste. If you notice, there is a ring on the inside of the D20 that holds the magnets in place, and the center of that ring is cut out. We didn't want to just throw out all of those cut out pieces, and we realized they are the perfect size for small drink coasters! We added some engraved cork, and a small holder, with posts made from the handles of our used felt brushes! It means a lot to us to be able to use what would normally be trash to create extra goodies for our tabletop and yours!
*For shipping estimates, treat this add-on as the same weight as a Leather D20.
$35 - Fill ‘er Up (15 Dice Sets): Don’t have enough dice to fill your new bag? We got you covered! We will send your D20 pre-filled with 15 full RPG dice sets, 105 dice in total! You’ll get a random collection of 15 matching sets from our numerous suppliers, and we will provide as much variety as possible. Your case will still have room for a couple sets of your own, but this should cover everyone at the table!
*For shipping estimates, treat this add-on as the same weight as two Leather D20s.
$39 - Metal Dice Set from Die Hard Dice: This is a special exclusive add-on ONLY for D20 Leather Dice Case backers. You can NOT get this add-on by itself! We are featuring the Spellbinder, Mystica, Gemstone, and Tempest dice lines from Die Hard Dice (http://www.dieharddice.com) for all of our Leather D20 Dice Case backers at an exclusive pricing you can only get through this campaign. (Please do not contact us to ask for this price directly from us, this offer is specifically for campaign backers.) Your dice will come with a metal case from Die Hard Dice, nestled safely inside your Leather Dice Case!
We're in this for the long haul, and we've got a LOT of stretch goals planned! We've listed the stretch goals up to $50k below, but we have even more beyond that if we receive that level of support!
“Vote for a new Theme” - We will host a twitter poll to vote on the next theme and color option to be unlocked!
Velvet Lining Add-On- We will unlock a new add-on, a velvet lining for your dice bag to replace the plain cloth, available in a number of colors.
“Paint it Black” - Add black leather as an option for ALL available patterns.
“Deluxe Themes” - Twitter poll with options for a deluxe theme with exotic dyes or patterns
Jumbo Dice Bags - We have a working template for a larger dice bag already set up. It's 33% bigger than our regular dice bag and holds a MASSIVE amount of dice.
Custom "20" Add-On - We will unlock a new add-on, the option to customize the "20" panel on your dice bag with an image or message.
Some of the hidden stretch goals include fully customized dice bags, a spindown panel layout, gift packaging, and of course a lot more themes!
Thank you for your support!

Risks and challenges
With any Kickstarter campaign, the two biggest risks are whether the item being created will work as designed, and whether there will be delays in production.
For our Leather Dice Cases, we have already completely finalized our design, and built more than a dozen prototypes using the same template to confirm that we can repeat the process without flaw! This only leaves the scheduling...
...fortunately, we have an army (and a hulk, if you count the giant laser). Our company and our first product were born from an alliance of artists working out of a shared makerspace. In addition to our core group of four, there are more than a dozen fellow artists and crafters who share this space who have stepped up to help with production if the campaign grows larger than expected.
We are also doing our fulfillment in production runs, limiting the number of D20s we will have to create in each series, to make sure that we can not get overwhelmed or fall behind.
As a final note, the most intricate part of our work is done on a computer controlled laser, meaning a huge chunk of the effort in creating your dice bags now comes from the push of a button since our designs have already been perfected! We even have plans to purchase a second laser if the campaign does well enough.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
