Have you always wanted to be a dragon?
Being thrust into another world with the help of a magical accident is a well-known recipe for adventure. When it also turns you into a dragon, then what could possibly go wrong?
Find out what you would do in: YOU’RE A DRAGON – the Gamebook
Greetings and many welcomes to you. If this is your first time visiting DragonQuill, it's lovely to meet you and if you're a long-time friend, follower or supporter, I'm so glad to see you again *waves*.
I didn’t actually expect to see anyone so soon, but inspiration struck and here we are. I’ve always wanted to write a gamebook (loved them back in the day) but never got around to it as it felt intimidating (all those branching paths *faints*). Then my best friend gifted me "You're a cat in the zombie apocalypse" for a Christmas and the idea's been swirling around somewhere in my mind ever since.
It was great fun though - once I got going - and seeing how it’s been a busy year (actually, it’s been a very peculiar year) I, of course, pick *now* to do something about it. It’s one of the unwritten rules of the universe that the best ideas come when you have no time to write them down or your pen just ran out of ink, and as I was writing it, summer tried to metamorphose me into a puddle.
YOU’RE A DRAGON is a gamebook where YOU star as the protagonist.
Walking home one day, you (yes, you, the one who’s reading this very page right now) are caught in a magical accident and thrust into another word. A world filled with magic and wizards and … dragons.
Have you always wanted to be a dragon? Good. Because that accident didn’t just toss you through time and space, it made some slight alterations along the way. Ok, some major alterations – it was a very powerful accident – and as you land in this new world you discover that you’re now one of the most impressive creatures you’ve ever laid eyes upon: A dragon!
But wait, what about companions? No fear, you don’t need to face this new world alone if you don’t want to. Lightwing, the swift gryphon or Chaos, the enigmatic cat, can help guide you on your path - if you meet them early enough in the story.
What happens next?
Will you soar through the sky on heroic wings? Burn the world to ashes? Rescue the princess? Eat the prince?
Only you can decide!
- PS ... there are well over 20 different endings to "You're a dragon." Your choices matter. :)
- PPS ... The book itself is already written - so just needs editing by my eagle eyed editor before I can print and ship it :)
As you turn, beginning your climb back up, the pool below gurgles and glops. Is it your imagination or is it making more noises than before? Thanks to your long neck, you maintain your precarious purchase on the rocks and turn to see what’s going on.
As you watch, what first looks to be rocks, float to the surface. Two large, bulbous eyes, appear in the craggy stone as the lava slowly drips off, then two more, further down. Oh no, something does live down here. And it doesn’t look happy.
Lava cascading down its rocky hide, the young coulee rises slowly from the viscous lake, unfolding its stone encrusted wings until it nearly blots out the sun.
This would be a good time to climb a little faster, you think, and in-crease your upward speed. Turn to 370
Growl menacingly yourself and turn to face the coulee. Turn to 307
Gryphon companion: Where the blazers is your feathered companion when you need them? You call out to Lightwing for help. Turn to 261
Q What is a gamebook?
A Gamebooks are essentially stories where you get to pick the plot and depending on your choices and the events you encounter, the story changes - meaning you can read/play through the book many times without getting the same events or endings.
Q Does this mean I have to use dice etc?
A No. Some gamebooks do involve both dice and calculations and character stats (making them a kind of D&D in miniature literary form) but you won't need any to read/play through "You're a dragon!"
Q What is this "Seven of Stars"?
A "Seven of Stars" is an original fictional universe divided into 7 separate Ages. You'll find everything from mighty dragons, powerful wizards, lost starship pilots and everything in between all depending on what Age the individual story is set in.
Q So when is "You're a dragon!" set?
A The world "You're a dragon!" takes place in is the 4th Age, not too long after the events in "The Damsel and the Dragon." But since you're playing the main character yourself, obviously you still have to get there, so there are parts set in today's Earth as well.
Q I see there are more books in "Seven of Stars". Do I have to read those first?
A Let's set your mind at rest; most "Seven of Stars" books work as stand-alone stories, so no, you don't need to have read the others before you pick one up. Reading more will simply increase the depth of the world you're immersed in (and make the various easter eggs more fun :-)
The tiers are, this time, fairly straight forward.
The Wizard's Pouches: are made from red faux leather or red faux leather suede (depending on your choice). They take a bit of time, so there are only limited numbers available.
Signed Special Edition Dustjackets: I've only got 15 Academia Draconia First Editions left - so the Adamantium Egg level is, this time, limited to 15 as it contains *all* the different books.
Create a character: There are two tiers for Create a Character this time around; TSW and AD II. I'll work with you to make sure the character type, name etc blends in well with the story. Previous characters that owe their origins to Create a Character are: Azzhadel, the snakehorse, from "High Fyelds II"; Pickles, the wonderdog, from "The Damsel and the Dragon"; and Mordjen, the living nightmare, from"High Fyelds I."
The Soul Within: is a YA story set in a future Earth where most humans have retreated underground, living in vast military facilities and vaults, after an alien assault, and follows two MCs that dream of one day flying in the blue heavens with the other skyfighters. The draft to this is already written and it should meet its summer 2019 publication deadline.
Academia Draconia II: is a YA/NA sequel to "Academia Draconia" and the adventures of the young dragonriders and their dragons from the first book. The only question is what mischief they'll get into this time ;-) This is still in development and should all go well it should meet its winter 2019 deadline, otherwise it'll be 2020.
NEW: By request, I've moved the two remaining bracelets from add-ons to a new tier (identical to the Silver Egg) called the Hidden Egg.
If you choose to add an add-on to your pledge, please send me a note (as well as increase your pledge accordingly), as I won't know otherwise - especially if you choose one with a limited availability!
Postage is fairly simple this time around (something good coming out of not having so many tiers, yay!)
There is no additional postage for any add-on item.
I will ship anywhere in the world, but if you're not in USA, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND or any of the countries in the EU, please contact me to find out what the postage would be i.e. if you see postage as 0:- on the tier, I'll have to give you an individual quote).
I wasn't actually planning on having any formal stretchgoals for this book, but looking at that 200% makes it so, so hard to resist. Impossible even. So, I figured I'd compromise. A first, small, stretchgoal that's a nice treat for you all and at the same time something that doesn't take any extra time (much) to do.
Surprise Stretchgoal: 200% funded: I'll draw a small dragony sketch on the title page for those that'd like one :)

* Burns or clawmarks made by your local, friendly, neighbourhood dragon.

* Strange desires to suddenly start hoarding treasures, books, jewels or gold, as a result from reading any book offered herewith.
* Other than that, the only thing to worry about are potential printer delays and your package being diverted through Greenland for some unknown (but possibly vital to the survival of the universe) reason.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
