Random Solo Adventure: Bram Stoker's Dracula (Canceled)
Jonathan Harker is imprisoned in Count Dracula's castle in Transylvania. Control Harker in this interactive game book!
We have chosen to cancel this project prematurely.
The audience is apparently there and we have had a great stream of interested people message us with questions both here at Kickstarter, and also on other forums.
In our dialogue with some of the backers the project also received many positive appraisals. However, we see that we will not be able to reach enough backers during the campaign period. This is understandable on such a large project led by two unknown artists.
We want to thank everyone who came in and backed us, believed in us and trusted the project. We also want to thank everyone helping us by blogging, tweeting and spreading the project link.
Greenhickup (the artist) will go on with other projects - you can see more of his work here: greenhickup.deviantart.com
J. Pingo Lindstrom (the writer), has a website with his own projects here: PenguinComics.com
The Random Solo Adventure game book series was created by J. Pingo Lindstrom in 2015. The first book, Fantasy Dungeon, was released in late 2015. The second book, Jungle Quest, was released in January 2016.
The third book Post Apocalypse will be released in the first quarter of 2016.
These game books are interactive fiction (adventures), where you play the hero! (Contrary to ordinary books with linear stories, each reading offers new scenarios as many of the encounters are random.) But instead of being linear stories, each reading is slightly different since many of the encounters are random. This creates a fun interactive experience, unlike any other book.
Bram Stoker published Dracula in 1897. It is an amazing gothic horror story. Dracula has been filmed and re-produced many many times.
This time, J. Pingo Lindstrom brings it to the game book format!
You play Jonathan Harker, the British solicitor, on a visit to the firm's new client in Transylvania: Count Dracula. But as fate has it, Harker's wife-to-be Mina, is Dracula's soul mate.
The deadly game is on - but you can change its course!
In this Random Solo Adventure title you choose what will happen next - and are treated to various random encounters on the way.
Escape from Dracula’s castle - and save Mina, and yourself, before it is too late!
The first three books; Fantasy Dungeon, Jungle Quest and Post Apocalypse, were all written in generic genres, built on similar principles and illustrated using vector artwork. The books are very popular and have reached an international audience.
With Bram Stoker's Dracula the Random Solo Adventure moves into a narrower field, concentrating on a specific story - based on the famous novel by author Bram Stoker.
Using an already well known scenario poses new challenges for the game creators, who will stretch their creativity to test new game rules and develop suspenseful interactive scenarios. In addition, we want to add truly amazing illustrations to bring the game book to a new level. In order to fund this considerably more expensive project we have decided to run a Kickstarter campaign. We are convinced the added funds will result in an even more exciting interactive game book.
Greenhickup has joined the Random Solo Adventure: Bram Stoker's Dracula-project! If you don't know him - he's an amazing artist with fantastic illustration skills.
Dracula concept art, by Greenhickup Greenhickup's art will bring this solo gamebook to another level, with art especially created for this gothic horror interactive Dracula!
Each main character will have their own introduction with full-page artwork, and every major incident will be masterfully illustrated, bringing the story to new heights.
Risks and challenges
What happens if the project is not funded completely?
We will write the game book anyway, but the end result won’t be as fabulous as we would like it to be. Funding is needed for research, game testing and especially the upgraded illustrations.
What else could go wrong?
Most creative endeavors, involving a team of inventive artists, suffer from some missed deadlines or miscommunications. However, this group is well matched and ready to take up the challenge to create a new level of interactive game book. We hope you will be a part of this exciting adventure!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
