Can you be the Best General?
IN ENGLISH (ESPAÑOL: clic aquí)
2GM Tactics Wargame is a tabletop game that lets you recreate battles between the US – Allied nation – and Germany – Axis nation – during the late years of the WW2.
Players will create and customize their own decks in advance in order to complete the military feats assigned.
- Players: 1 to 4, including a set of rules to play solo, for both battles and campaigns.
- Recommended age: 12 years and up.
- Length: 30 to 120 minutes, depending on the scenario or total points to achieve victory.
- DOWNLOADS: Rules and Game in English, Spanish and French. This is an early draft of the English and French rules. We are working on a more polished version with a professional English rules editor.
- You can download the Solo Rules in English, Spanish and French.
2GM Tactics Wargame was originally published in 2015 in Spain by Draco Ideas Editorial. (In Spanish the "World War" is written "Guerra Mundial" so "2GM" is used the same way English speakers use "WW2")
The game received a warm response from players. We look forward to a wider group of players all over the world, by publishing 2GM in English, and also by releasing the first set of expansions in both languages, English and Spanish.
New armies are joining the battle with new unit and support cards, unique Generals, terrain cards, game effects and special skills.
"North Africa" expansions: ‘2GM TWG: United Kingdom’ and ‘2GM TWG: Italy’: expanding the game with an Allied and an Axis faction, set in the North African Campaign.
"Eastern Front" expansions: '2GM TWG: Soviet Union' and ‘2GM TWG: German Reinforcements Expansion’: expanding the game with a new Allied nation and an expansion of the base game for Germany, set in the Eastern Front.
UNLOCKED KS exclusive: if we reach 300 fans in BoardGameGeek, we will include 2 copies of the Heavy Tank Maus prototype and a special scenario.
UNLOCKED: When we reach 600 fans on BGG, we will offer you the P26/40 Italian tank and a new special scenario. This little-known tank was mainly used by the Germans, as the Italians had already surrendered when they were entering production. We will include it in the Italian expansion, so you can continue to have the Italians support the Germans for scenarios like Monte Cassino and trying to crack the Gothic Line.
UNLOCKED KS exclusive: if we reach 400 retweets, we will include 2 copies of the American Tank T28 and a special scenario.
REWARD - unlocked KS exclusive: we will include 2 copies of the Soviet Tank T35 prototype and a special scenario.
A total of 220 cards, divided in three different decks:
- The US army
- The German army
- Terrain cards
Army decks are comprised of Unit cards (Infantry, Artillery, Armor, Transports and Aircraft) and Support cards. Additionally, you’ll also find General cards, Scenario cards and Player Aid and Game Summary cards.
The US army contains a total of 96 cards: 57 of them depicting 18 different types of unit cards and 39 support cards.
The German deck includes 96 cards: 56 unit cards of 17 different types and 40 support cards.
Support cards complement each army deck and provide special, one-time abilities and perks to our units during a battle. Use Support cards to hamper the enemy and their strategy.
Terrain cards are double-sided cards that are placed in the battlefield and provide extra cover to our units.
The rest of the components included in the box are:
16 double-sided tiles to build up the battlefield with open field and natural features: forests, bushes, mountains, lakes, rivers and sea.
2 ten-sided dice and over 100 tokens including markers and extra equipment.
Rules: a 60-page manual containing 20 pages of detailed rules and 37 scenarios, both historical and special. 4 full campaigns are included: Operation Overlord, Operation Cobra, Operation Market-Garden and Battle of the Bulge.
Solo Rules: 12 pages providing details for all the available game modes.
4x Player Aid cards.
At the beginning of the game each player may choose a side and will set up their army deck depending on the number of points set for the scenario and its specific set of rules.
There are two different game modes:
Battle Royal, in which the goal is to destroy the opponent’s HQ.
Scenario, a pre-set scenario with its own set of deployment rules and predetermined configuration. The final goal is established by the specific rules of the scenario itself.
The game is played in full-turns by both players until a side accomplishes its goal.
A game turn is divided in 9 phases:
1- Start Phase: in this phase all the effects of cards or tokens of previous turns finish.
2- HQ Phase: we get Action Points in several ways:
from the HQ itself.
from certain Unit cards and some Support cards.
from the Supply Line, a continuous path from our HQ to the farthest line in the battlefield.
3- Refill Phase: draw two new cards from the deck.
4- Movement Phase: player may move any number of their units in the battlefield.
5- Deployment Phase: player use Action Points to deploy new units or Support cards. They may also equip units with additional gear according to the type of unit.
6- Shooting Phase: player may attack with all the units and weapons to enemies within range.
7-Flip Over Phase: player may activate again Additional Equipment tokens used in former turns.
8- Discard Phase: player gets rid of any excess over 7.
9- End Phase: play goes to the other player.
A key factor to take into account in the game is the ability a player has to build up their own army deck before entering the battle. Depending on the objectives and the restrictions inherent to the scenario, the player will be able to choose what units and Support cards to include.
The goals to achieve the victory in a given game are totally diverse depending on the battle or scenario being played. Goals Range from destroying enemy’s HQ to seize the battlefield or inflicting a specific amount of casualties; to bomb a building or seizing it; raze a specific objective or steal supplies from the enemy; rescue a key position or standing on it for a given number of turns, among others.
We expect to increase the number of cards to include in the expansions as the number of backers raises during the project.
New unit and Support cards will add extra in-game effects and new special abilities that will be detailed in an addendum to the current rules.

A WARGAMERS NEEDFUL THINGS: Full review here. "Even if you just buy the simple English edition, you're getting not just a basic generic fast playing tactical card game of WWII with lots of flavour and colour, but a surprisingly varied set of rules for its small footprint and the potential for a much more extended experience through the wealth of Campaigns."
Unboxing from La Mazmorra de Pacheco.
