New guest cards - Mr. Destructoid and Zpocalypse crew!

Posted by Downward Viral (Creator)

by Sebastian Haley, Creative Director

A wise man once told me, "Haley, you need to use more smilies in your emails." That man was Niero, the founder of www.destructoid.com. If you don't know what that is, you'll probably want to skip down to the second part of this announcement.

For all the Dtoiders out there, though, I'm very honored that my old boss will be joining Tex Murphy and Jessica Nigri in our humble little zombie apocalypse. I'm also a little surprised that Niero agreed to let his shiny new helmet get splattered with blood for his card, but I also lied and said it would wash right out, so....

To honor the occasion, we're holding a contest of sorts where anyone can submit a Photoshop or drawing of what Mr. Destructoid would look like as a survivor, or as a zombie.

You can link to them in the comments below, or post it on the Destructoid announcement article.

We'll share the best ones in an update this weekend, then on Monday, June 25th, we'll choose two winners (one zombie, one survivor). You'll both get a Deluxe Boxed Edition of Z., signed and numbered, with over 350 cards.

To kick things off, here's my rendition of a zombie Mr. Destructoid. It took me roughly 10 WHOLE seconds to Google.... :)

And oh, hey, here's Mr. Destructoid with our other guest card, Jessica Nigri.

Now for the second part of today's guest card announcement: Zpocalypse.

The Zpocalypse crew has kindly agreed to appear as cards in Z. You can never have too many zombie apocalypses going on at once, right?

About Zpocalypse:

One day Jeff decided to make a board game. With the support of his wife Theresa, he gathered his team; Zack was the technical shaman, Ricky added artwork, David added business savvy, Nick gave legal counsel and Julie created a storyline and provided editing for the group. Thus Greenbrier Games was formed…and then there was an outbreak.

Zpocalypse combines combat, resource collection, character development and team strategy with the goal of surviving a zombie apocalypse.

If you missed your chance to back Zpocalypse on Kickstarter, you can now pre-order the game.

I'll put the decision out to you guys, the backers: Should all five Zpocalypse characters (who are also the devs) be their own card, or should they be a single bad-ass card with all five characters?

Either way you'll get it for FREE, along with Mr. Destructoid, included with every pledge at $15 and above.

@Alex I'd lean more towards Rigby and Mordicai

Every single reveal gets more and more ("How?!") though. I'm calling it right now, 10 is going to be Mickey Mouse.

@Alex: Alot of dirty secrets of the people in question no doubt ;P

@Alex There is a link between Downward Viral and Destructoid, which was mentioned on Destructoid. As for the others, I have no idea. Whatever they are doing is working.

How in the hell are you guys getting all this support?! Jessica Nigri, Tex Murphy, Dtoid and Zpocalypse. Who are you people!?

@TheChosenOne I can see where you are coming from, but at the same time I believe Mr. Destructoid fits well. I see it as someone (infected or survivor) who was/is a mascot before the outbreak. Could of kept using the mask to inspire other while being a zombie killing machine ala Chicago Ted.

It is a game but to be honest Mr. Destructoid doesn't fit this at all. Next Superman and Robocop? ;o

@Danbjo: That's a good idea, and ties back to our post about social effects on different cards: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/downwardviral/z-2/posts/248500

zpocalypse characters should be 5cards and get better/bonuses when more cards are in play at once. forexample if you get two in play you get better attack or something like that ^^
