Doughnut Dolly is to be a unique doughnut shop in Oakland. Help bring Naughty Doughnuts to the streets, and put cream on every smile!
Welcome to Doughnut Dolly!
Doughnut Dolly is a concept that was created to bring back the true joy of that sugared treat called a "doughnut." Beginning with an experiment and turning into an obsession, Hannah Hoffman was determined to create a doughnut that would prove to have a traditional texture (chewy and soft), be a base for innovative flavors, and bring happiness to the world!
What's a "Doughnut Dolly?"
"Doughnut Dollies" were Red Cross volunteers who made coffee and doughnuts for soldiers on the front line during WWI and WWII in Europe. It is legend, that homesick soldiers that were serving in WWI were called "Dough Boys" because of all the doughnuts they consumed. I like to think of Doughnut Dollies as the Rosie the Riveter of Doughnuts. Fun name, right?
What's with the "Naughty Doughnut?"
Perhaps you noticed the sign on the video listing "Naughty Doughnuts." Other than it being an indulgence, the "Naughty Doughnut" gets its name from the crème fraîche pastry cream that filled the original Doughnut Dolly Doughnut. This cream was created by the late Heather Ho* of Boulevard Restaurant in San Francisco. It's filled with fresh vanilla beans, and is bright, zesty, creamy, and so delicious! Heather called it, "Naughty Cream."
*Heather Ho left Boulevard Restaurant to take a position at Windows of the World Restaurant in the World Trade Tower. Her life was ended in the attack on 9/11. I hope to carry her memory through this amazing treat.
Why a Kickstarter Campaign?
Doughnut Dolly has been selling doughnuts at "Pop-up" events for over a year, and is ready to take it to the next level. To do this, however, requires more money, and your help. I have signed a lease, and am asking for $12,000 to fund the construction/new plumbing of a floor sink, dish/hand washing stations, and a water line to the coffee machine, as required by the health department. Also needed are two proofers, and a doughnut fryer. The money will also be used to renovate the walls and floors to meet health department standards as well.
I am so appreciative of your support, and I know that saying "Thank you" is only a start. I hope to serve each and everyone of you as you wander into the Temescal Neighborhood in Oakland, California. It is my goal to put cream on every smile!
Everyone who contributes to this fundraiser will be invited to an exclusive party at Doughnut Dolly; to show my appreciation and to celebrate a successful group effort!
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
