Since I was about 16 years old I’ve wanted to make a t-shirt brand. I’d scribble ideas all over my desk, on paper, and pretty much everywhere, but I didn’t know how to start. I didn’t think that just a young kid could do it, so I didn’t chase my dream.
Ten years later now, and still madly passionate about t-shirts and design. On one occasion, I was helping my mom, while she was baking cupcakes for a wedding, and I made a cupcake that looked pretty gangsta, rocking some scars, holding a rolling pin like he was ready for a fight. Everyone laughed, tons of people actually really liked it. That’s when I thought of making “Doughboy Clothing”, putting two passions together. One was making crazy looking cupcakes and cakes, and two, was my love for t-shirts and fashion.
I got a ton of concept designs, looked up how to start a t-shirt company, and eventually I got two designs and got them printed cheaply. It was just a basic t-shirt with no tags. I spent all my money on the printing, probably not the best idea, but hey I got them, I sold them to friends and family and everyone thought it was an amazing idea. Then I started making new designs, really diving into figuring out the how and who and when of starting my own company.
At this point sadly my grandmother passed away and my other grandmother got very sick with dementia. My granddad couldn’t deal with it on his own so I decided to move to Portugal and put my Company on pause.
After about a year, my granddad made me promise to come back to the United Kingdom to pursue my dream of starting my company. By this stage I had no money, as I didn’t really work when I was in Portugal, just did the odd jobs I could find on the internet.
I tried to figure out how I could go about starting my company again. I got some money from my parents to help get the designs done by an amazing artist in Canada, called Felix la Flamme.
Then I thought, I don't want people to just buy a t-shirt, and the Doughboy experience end there, I wanted something special that no other brand has.
Then it hit me! Why not put a t-shirt inside a cupcake, that would probably be a bit weird, and I'm pretty sure the t-shirt would get dirty. Then I thought, why not make the "cupcake" into a vinyl toy – TADAAA.
I then contacted an organisation called the Prince’s Trust. They really gave me motivation and structure and a mentor to work with.
So now we have everything sorted. Printer and toy manufacturer all ready, now we just need you guys! Because you guys are the backbone of this brand, helping us to launch the brand, and get off our feet, we are limiting these designs to Kickstarter pledges only. We will not reproduce these tees again. Be one of the few to "rock" one of these tees! Get them while they are fresh!!
Enough about the past - now what about the future
Well now, with the t-shirt and Packaging designed we need £5300 to get everything printed and the packaging (toys) made. Our t-shirts will be bought through a Portugal Company. Our printing will all be screen printed in Portugal. Why Portugal? Well I am Portuguese, and I’ve seen how hard the recession has hit Portugal. Jobless people at a record high. I would really love to help the country as much as I can, and this is the way I am capable of doing it. Sadly I cannot get the packaging (toys) made in Portugal. I have to go to China to get this made. This is where you, amazing people come in.
My Vision and Goals for the future
Well if everything goes well and according to plan, and I am able to raise the money and “Doughboy Clothing” becomes a profitable company, my goal is to open up a shop with a Skate Park and have an area with games, and a lounge, where kids can come and chill out. They will be able to skate, play games and be safe. I want to bring my brand to the community, and let it be a part of the community. I would like to help the future adults of our communities, getting them out of the streets and getting them into a place where they can be themselves, to learn, and help them chase their dreams just like I’m chasing mine.
The Fun Part - The Designs!
Let’s not forget the awesome packaging
3 Colours to choose from!

The t-shirt will be rolled up and put inside the vinyl toy. You just pop the head open and you have a t-shirt and a badass toy!

We want to be in this for the long haul, creating new designs. We want to make different characters for the packaging of our T-shirts, get caps and jerseys made. You and the community’s contribution and input are vital for our future.

Risks and challenges
There are always some risks in manufacturing toys in China, and shipping times for delivery from China. We have done our best to foresee these probable issues, so we have added extra time to our delivery times.
