Broken Age Coming April 28th!

Greetings dearest backers!

As many of you will have seen already, we’ve announced that the full Broken Age adventure, Acts 1 & 2 combined, will be coming to PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Ouya, PS4 and PS Vita on April 28th! (Although PlayStation platform release dates may vary depending on the local store update times)

That’s only One. Month. Away. Say Whaaatttt? Exciting times are the times we are now living in!

You won’t have to do anything special to get Act 2, it will be added as a free update to Act 1. So if you have it installed already, it should patch in and you’ll be good to go!

Cross Save

Broken Age also support cross save across many platforms, so if you’ve completed Act 1 on PC, Mac, or Linux, you’d be able to continue your game on your iOS or Android device through Dropbox cloud saves if you so wished. PS4 and PS Vita have their own separate cross save system as well.

IGN Act 2 Sneak Peek

Last week Tim took Broken Age Act 2 over to the IGN offices (which are handily just around the corner) and sat down with Marty Sliva to play through the first 12 minutes of the game. If you can’t wait any longer to see what’s in store for Shay and Vella, and you don’t mind a few light spoilers (we made sure to hold back all puzzles), then go check out IGN’s 12 minute preview (warning: again, spoilers).

Broken Age Box art, by Cory Schmitz

The physical box release for Broken Age is making it’s way through the manufacturing plants as we speak with a classy box art design by our good friend Cory Schmitz. The box will feature a transparent slip case with Shay and Vella on it, which means you can choose who sits at the bottom or the top, and it’s suuuuuuuuuuper purty. Check it out here with the slip case removed...

Please note that t his is NOT the $100+ backer reward box, which is going to be a whole bunch bigger, and obviously even cooler. That will be based on this design, but we’re waiting for the documentary to wrap up before we start making that, since that will be included. No, this is the physical box that will be for general release.

Pillars of Eternity

Lastly. our good friends at Obsidian are releasing their crowdfunded game Pillars of Eternity today, and we wanted to give them a big ol’ high five! Made by the same talented folks who made South Park: The Stick of Truth, and Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity launches today on PC, Mac and Linux, go take a look!

Thanks everyone!

It's All Happening!

Soooooooo, we’ve got something exciting to tell you all. WE JUST LOCKED THE BROKEN AGE RELEASE CANDIDATE!! After a solid month of pure bug squashing we have a build that’s looking super duper polished and ready to roll. Big props to the entire team for absolutely killing it and delivering something that really is everything we hoped it would be and more. I know it’s been a long wait, so thanks again for being so patient with us and allowing us to take the time we needed to make the game as good as possible!

So now what?! The build will sit in test for the next week while everyone on the team looks for any remaining issues that may have slipped through the cracks. Then it’s off to PlayStation 4 and Vita certification as well as pressing discs for the PC/Mac/Linux retail copy from our pals at Nordic Games. Those processes can take around a month, during which time we’ll be packaging up and prepping the iOS, Android, and Ouya builds so we can hit with everything on the same day! Speaking of the release date....

Release Date Announce and IGN Coverage

We’re going to announce the release date next week as part of a bunch of coverage that IGN is going to be running on the game throughout the week! It will all be on the front page of IGN, so keep an eye out for that news, as well as an interview with Tim and preview coverage of Act 2! Should be an awesome way to kick off formal promotion of the game’s release!

Documentary Update

Now that we’ve locked the build, the 2 Player Productions guys are pretty much done with filming for the next episode, save a few interviews. It’s just a matter of locking down the cut and doing an audio pass before the next episode is in your inboxes. That should hit around the time of launch in a month or so!

We’ll make sure to get the new episode to you guys first, but it’s been really awesome to have more folks watching and talking about the game through the public release of the doc! Please let your non-backers friends know they can join in on the fun now over on our Youtube channel.

Toejam and Earl

Lastly, we just wanted to give one more shoutout to our friends at Humanature Studios that are in the final stretch of their Kickstarter for a new Toejam and Earl! They’re allllllllmost there with just 5 days to go, so let’s head on over to their Kickstarter page and give them that final push they need to make it a reality!

Broken Age Act 2 Development at Beta!

Hey all, happy 2015! LOTS of big milestones being hit by the Broken Age team in the past month, so let’s just take a second to hear Tim rattle them all off in video form!

And for the video-averse, a summary:

  • All dialog is written
  • All English voice is recorded
  • All German voice is recorded
  • All dialog and voice is implemented
  • PlayStation 4 and Vita are up and running
  • Gameplay programming is locked
  • External QA testing has begun
  • Nordic Games retail box art by Cory Schmitz is done, looks awesome, and is at the printers.

OH MAN we’re getting there! What this means is we’re preeeeeeetty much at beta these days. The brunt of the remaining beta work left on the game is to finish up all the final cutscene animation now that we have final voice, and then the visual effects and audio work that follows.

The game is in a highly playable state now, and we’ve been doing a bunch of playtesting both with employees at DF and developer friends outside the studio, which continues to be really encouraging!

Now we’re in that final stretch of polishing things up and pushing that bug countdown to zero! It’s a really exciting time. We now can see the full picture of the game we’re going to ship and are able to make small tweaks that really affect the quality of the experience. The good news is that we’re already excited about what we have, and these next few months of polish and bug fixing should allow us to ship something we’re super super proud of.

Can’t wait to get the rest of the game into your hands! This also has us looking forward a bit to the remaining rewards left to ship. Here’s a handy dandy breakdown on where we are with all of those things!:

That’s it for now! You can expect another documentary episode in the weeks prior to launch and more project updates as we hit major milestones. Until then, hopefully you can keep yourselves busy with Grim!
