The industry standard for a well-produced 1080 HD documentary is $2,000 per finished minute. We hope to produce a 40-minute film. Because we already have the equipment and expertise, as well as a passion for The Double Door Inn and the people who work and play there, we think we can do it for less than industry standard, even though we expect to shoot 50 hours or more of footage (regardless of whether or not we reach our goal).
If we reach our goal, we'll spend untold hours in the studio, editing that footage down to the best 40 minutes in post-production. So it's fair to say that this project will be all that the four of us do in the month of October. This will become full time work. As a point of reference, the 3-minute trailer video required almost 40 hours of Rick's time to edit, not to mention time the rest of us spent setting up interviews, conducting them, and recording performances. It's been a labor of love, but it is also very time consuming.
It's also worth noting that Kickstarter charges about 10% off the top line and we expect to spend about the same amount on printing rewards--stickers, guitar picks, posters and DVDs. All of which will have to be packaged and mailed to our generous supporters.
